To get a visa, do a search for the Russian Embassies in the US. Call or visit them and they can tell you what to do. Secondly, there are no airlines that fly from America to Russia. Most major flights, and the easiest to find are those coming through Istanbul, Turkey. The biggest airline that provides flights to Russia daily is called Turkish Airlines. You can purchase flights to Russia on their website, and you should be able to purchase flights from America to Istanbul, no problem. Thirdly, once you get here, be sure to get registered anywhere you stay, (hostel or hotel) or you will be deported. Fourthly, your American debit and credit cards will not work here. Bring as much cash with you as you will need (But less than $10,000. More than $10,000 is illegal). You can convert dollars into Rubles at any major bank here. But you cannot convert rubles into dollars, so only convert what you expect to spend.
