Also Sho/Minazuki and ironically enough Shadow Labrys don’t have a traditional shadow version with the shadow burst (although base labrys does have a shadow version for a total of 3 versions of labrys)
P4A was definitely a game that I heard a lot about back in the day. Sometimes I wish I'd gotten into fighting games sooner (I did have a friend I played with as a kid, but the games were all his and we were kids so it's not the same now).
Can we just take a moment and appreciate those combo training descriptions? Those are some of the best I've seen. I picked up a bunch of fighters during the EVO 2021 sale and I was frequently annoyed at things like just showing me the name of a move in the list or missing critical details like "while in air" that were left to me to figure out.
Hey can you make guides for this game? Currently the amount of relevant guides for the game available is absolutely minuscule and I personally heavily rely on guides to get better at fighting games
Found your videos while learning dbfz and I’ve stayed around since. Now I’m looking to get into p4au and I know right where to come back. Thanks for continuing to make wonderful content!!
My main in this game was Yukiko, so the balance changes in 2.0 that will make her persona combos even more "solid" and make it harder for her to lose her persona, and the faster fan tossing, etc, are really exciting to me. I'm feeling slightly annoyed at the prospect of buying this game at full price for a third time, maybe this version is cheaper, but still lol. But it's worth it to me to play Ultimax again... I would really love to see this spawn a new tournament scene for Ultimax, because I feel like that version barely had any time in the sunlight compared to the original, and it added so much, so many great new characters. My 2nd main is Rise, and then Kanji is my mixup option if the keepaway girls aren't working out in a matchup. I truly hope we get some tournaments going for this in time... Ultimax is such a great game, it deserves to be a "classic" that people just keep playing like Vampire Savior, etc, not just have had a single season of public recognition.... I know there will be an online community either way, but it would be nice to see, the game truly deserves it. Part of the reason I say that, and like it so much, is that it has this wonderful quality of being super fun to play even for people who are new to fighting games or just have shitty reflexes or whatever, but it is also a highly technical game that can be played at the highest of levels, and no anyone who knows what they are doing will still dominate beginners. But the beginners can at least still have fun, can still feel good about doing something cool even if it's just catching you to mash out the auto-combo... and that makes the path to truly getting better at the game and learning it at a higher level... just... a hell of a lot more fun than it usually is in this genre, I'll just put it that way. Maybe for people who are good players in general none of this made any difference, but for someone like me who loves the genre but struggles to learn longer combos etc, this comfy learning curve made a massive difference to how good I eventually was able to get at the game. edit: Aww hell yeah, it was so great to see that Rise player who knew what they were doing, you seriously robbed them lol. I usually play her a bit more chaotically and zoning-focused, emphasizing getting as much crap on screen as I can in unpredictable patterns so you have notes hanging around, lighting still on its way, and the laser firing and bursting the notes around the opponent just as you come in with the melee rushdown, that kind of thing.... it's weirding me out that I never knew you could incorporate her air-thrown into a combo the way he did, that is very powerful and I feel dumb for never using that before lol. Just awesome to see Rise being played well though... she is so incredibly versatile and fun to use once you get familiar with her, this fun mixup of powerful zoning tools with her persona and extremely good up-close rushdown melee buttons herself... so one really does have a lot of freedom when using her and she can thrive in multiple ways... and that DP is so deceptively effective lol ; ) And anyway damn just look at her!!! : D
I've got major nostalgia for the first Persona Arena, it and Street Fighter IV were the first fighting games I tried to learn seriously. Never got to play Ultimax so I'm really excited for this!
I bought it as soon as it hit past Midnight (hehe) and already played it tons with my friends tonight (it's been one of our favorites ever since vanilla P4A).
Dude the moment I touched the game I felt the balance changes even thought I didn't know they were a thing. It's going to take some time to get used to it, especially building sp feels so hard rn, it's like I have to purposely let them get me low just so I can use my instant kill
I originally played P4A around the time it came out. I never really got into it but have been wanting to go back to it thanks to BBTag. Looking at Akihito, Mitsuru and Kanji as potential mains.
I was gonna grab this but now that Team Garou are out in KOF I'll probably wait for the rollback patch. (and hopefully a Steam sale) This game was fun and unique back in the day! It'll be fun to play it with solid netcode.
Looking forward to picking this up when rollback drops in the summer! Missed these characters. Only played vanilla P4 Arena, so it'll be interesting to feel the differences between the two versions
Oh you'll love Ultimax, it adds so many characters to the roster, and almost all of them are great. I'm not a huge fan of the whole shadow characters thing, I mean it's fun and neat for lore and to have alternate versions, but Shadow Chie had some really dumb unbalanced stuff that made tournaments kinda stupider and more degenerate than they were before Ultimax... so I hope they fixed and balanced that stuff better in this 2.0 version. But there are so many insanely fun new characters like Rise, Marie, Adachi, etc.. I'm really looking forward to seeing and playing the 2.0 version, it sounds like the changes to personas should help Yukiko a lot, who was my main along with Rise after Ultimax came out.
One thing to note about auto combos is that the third hit gives a ton of meter. Characters who have follow ups off their third auto combo like Yu and Aigis get a lot of mileage out of it because they can build meter really efficiently without sacrificing too much damage.
Don't know why they didn't include the original console versions of PERSONA 4 ARENA and ULTIMAX with this release. Would've been real nice to have them all included in a nice package for current and last gen consoles.
P4A is a game I always wanted to play mainly because it's the dream game of "every character has a different resource" they not only play differently, but some work on entirely different rules
You should try out BlazBlue. It's pretty much the posterboy of the 'everyone plays their own game' design philosophy, with tons of wack individual mechanics all-around.
They never got the 2.0 patch in japan either for console, it was arcade-only, otherwise we'd have just imported the JP version of the game like with BB. And yeah Atlus worked together with Arcsys so they kinda handled the characterization and the story even is a sequel to the RPG games.
I think I'm going to spend a lot of time in training mode before even going online. At least until I feel like my brain is actually controlling my hands.
PC port is really bad with launching the game if you have a good monitor. Gotta do some obscure things to fix and I can only play on windowed mode atm. Hopefully they fix this bug asap
I'm trying to main Rise because she looks annoying and cheap with the setup, but damn that 2nd player you fought. She/He has a damn good Rise. EDIT: She even did a proper crouch confirm combo route(even though dropped)
@@starbreaker6441 That's good. I really like Rises' VA. She got replaced for the dancing game and made me fairly disappointed since she was my favorite.
Kanji is ridiculous in this game. True menace. That said the whole game is degenerate but with super cool looking stuff so you already know it's gonna be nuts day one.
All of Arc System fighters are so visually appealing, the detail and colors are so vibrant, so alive.
10:30 NOT EVERY CHARACTER HAS A SHADOW VERSION! Margaret, Elizabeth, Marie, and Adachi dont have Shadow characters due to lore reasons!
I'm guessing that Yu also doesn't have a shadow version, right?
Also Sho/Minazuki and ironically enough Shadow Labrys don’t have a traditional shadow version with the shadow burst (although base labrys does have a shadow version for a total of 3 versions of labrys)

Real shit.
For anybody to note, Auto Combos in this game is meant to rebuild Burst Meter in this version of the game but has extremely low damage
Oh interesting that's a really great idea, to give them a more specific utility for players who don't need them for much else.
@@jedgrahek1426 yeah I do like the balance they added for that

Same
not sure if it will work for you, but dustloop is somewhat helpful
watching some tournament matches from evo/animevo is also helpful
You can join the Persona 4 Arena Ultimax discord, they've got a LOT of guides for each character in their respective discord channels
