michael vitantonio I’m a dumbass.... Always thought that the chorus had Isaac Brock sounding A LOT like James Mercer but never even gave it a thought that it could be the real James Mercer singing...This makes so much sense now, thank you!
all 3 guitars play different parts, the two drummers play 2 different parts and when it all comes together it makes the song as a whole so I would say they do need them. If you can't hear the bass try headphones, I can hear it just fine in the mix.
This D Modest Mouse is SOOOO much better live in concert than watching them on a late night TV show! I saw them last night and they could not have sounded better!
that is a good point. and dramamine is one of my favorite songs and did come into my head he could possibly be a agnostic, but he has alot of dislike towards the idea of a god. let us just agree that he is a very talented musician, and doesn't follow a religion that agrees with the belief of a god.
It's just an electric upright bass. Due to it be electric the designers of it thought that the body that would promote acoustics and louder sound would be superfluous, hence the weird shape.
The guitar is simple? Yeah, the one acoustic guitar, and that's if you overlook the fact that they have a fucking string quartet in that song. Brock and Marr's guitars are doing all sorts of neat shit throughout the entire song. If the acoustic rhythm guitar were doing something like that, the song would lose its structure and wouldn't be half as catchy.
I think you're thinking of James Mercer's voice that's higher on the album. Does anybody have the "education" performace that they did the same night? I know the recently showed it on a rerun but i missed it.
wow i'll be the one to be the newest comment. this performance was the shit! loved it. wish the singer would have sang louder tho. but fuck it, its 2k7 haha
marr seems to have the james mercer harmonies down pretty well. too bad about eric though. no matter how much they progress and evolve, i feel like it's not the same MM when the three originals aren't all there :(
Reason #7543 why james mercer is one of the greatest singer/songwriters of my generation: how flat this chorus is without him. Great performance otherwise!
boring guitar work? I disagree completely. Marr's and Isaac's guitars are doing a lot of great stuff, just as gyro said. If you think the acoustic is simple, that's cuz it is. It's only there to be a simple, catchy, repeated melody.
Geez. I can't believe all these people are bashing the mouse. Of course I loved LCW and long drive, but I also enjoy their new stuff. I know Modest Mouse isn't the band they used to be, but they're far from a crappy emo band like some pricks said.
@@gregwisinski7870 I was definitely one of them, I liked them okay after I started listening when we were dead came out in 2007 (I was 12) but became a fan for life when I heard loansome and long drive.
I've been a fan since Lonesome Crowded West. Good news was....ok, but there latest album is very VERY disappointing! Oh, and buying cd's is such a waste!! A real fan would buy 2 vinyls...just saying.
It's sort of sad to see them make such a conventional album. That's got to be the most boring guitar work I've heard from Modest Mouse ever. I miss the Lonesome Crowded West/Moon and Antarctica days.
This is one of the most incredible songs ever written, any artist any genre.
It certainly is!
I think I missed the boat by about 13 years
LOOOOOOL
James Mercer from The Shins sings the chorus on the album version which is why it sounds different.
Wow - this is one of my favorite MM songs, and I never knew that. Thanks.
michael vitantonio I’m a dumbass.... Always thought that the chorus had Isaac Brock sounding A LOT like James Mercer but never even gave it a thought that it could be the real James Mercer singing...This makes so much sense now, thank you!
thank you!
I was there for this! So glad to have found this video - thank you!
I love modest mouse. They are the most beautiful chaotic mess I have ever heard.
Yes
Modest Mouse and Ugly Casanova are definitely the best bands ever.
Right on

Hell yeah Johnny Marr!
MODEST MOUSE ALL DAY!!!
Johnny FUCKING MARR!!!!!!!!!!

How do you take a band from a "6" to an "11"? Answer: Add Johnny Marr.
modest mouse was already a 11 dude...
That was sooo soo so sosooo ahhhrrg.. SO good. I am going see them In Detroit December 1st
Oh my gosh He's surrounded by pedals!
Never a bad thing! Can't have too many

Love this band!!!🌊
I LOVE their new cd!
I have one of his guitar picks. He came into the guitar shop where my Dad works, and gave him one to give to me.
it debute number 1!!!!!!!!!!!! omg that just confirms their greatness!!
fav line is ''our ideas dont hold water but we use them like a damm''
"shake shake shake shake shake!"

Modest Mouse is SOOOO much better live in concert than watching them on a late night TV show! I saw them last night and they could not have sounded better!
It's the Shure Green Bullet. It's a high impedance microphone thats used primarily by harmonica players.
agreed. James Mercer is amazing and adds just the right touch to this song.
Damn, the replacement they found for Eric was Sam from LOTR? Grats!
Isaac Brock, the vocal stylings & guitar genius of Lindsey Buckingham minus all the weirdness & Stevie Nicks!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who hears a connection between Lindsey Buckingham and Modest Mouse! Especially on the song Parting Of the Sensory.
Interesting comparison... but minus the weirdness? Are you fucking blind and deaf?
@@whatdothlife4660 agreed i dont get the weirndess part, lindsey wasnt a weird guitarist, he was a talented musician
I don’t think there’s any way you can describe Isaac using the words “minus all the weirdness”
fuck yes. And the backup vocals are finally the right volume. In their other live performances, the backup vocals cover brock.
Isaac looks surprisingly sober.
Johnny Marr FTW 🤟
Who's still listening in 2021?

let us just agree that he is a very talented musician, and doesn't follow a religion that agrees with the belief of a god.
i agree. still great band & song!!
its an Eminence electric upright bass.
This really is a lot stronger with the James Mercer(The Shins) vocals, but still love the tune.
It's just an electric upright bass. Due to it be electric the designers of it thought that the body that would promote acoustics and louder sound would be superfluous, hence the weird shape.

Yup. They are special. Seriously.
lol fools, you are joking right? johnny marr is a legend.
genius
Wait...
Two drummer's?!
this song reminds me of the cure so high song.
Its a string bass with electronics.
I think you're thinking of James Mercer's voice that's higher on the album. Does anybody have the "education" performace that they did the same night? I know the recently showed it on a rerun but i missed it.
if u think the gutair in this is simple. you try inventing the riff. it may sound simple but the band put a lot of work into thier music.
no, thats the word on the street. street being modmouse fourms
wow i'll be the one to be the newest comment. this performance was the shit! loved it. wish the singer would have sang louder tho. but fuck it, its 2k7 haha
GandalftheGreeeeen 2k17 now
Bless you from 2022
I may be wrong, but is the guitarist on the far left that the camera first comes to the blind musician from Roadhouse?
lol the guitarist on the acoustic looks like adam sessler!
Don't get me wrong, I love the band and all but why the hell would Johnny Marr want to join them? He's freakin' Johnny Marr, for God's sake!
Hey, Modest Mouse is great. So are The Smiths
marr has not being filling in for Judy. just some dude from love as Laughter. johnny replaced dan G.
ahhh it just doesn't sound right without james doing the background vox
Wheres eric
Who is that in the blue shirt playing acoustic guitar? I can not figure it out.
T.J. Scott No not stand up bass. Acoustic guitar on the far left.
sammay600 Its not Eric Judy. Who is not here for some odd reason.
+sammay600 Eric was absent for the tour. The guy playing with them is the Bassist for "Love As Laughter", who was the replacement for Eric.
+flipburger2000 Thanks

What is the guy on bass playing it's a..really tall cello. It's not quite a double bass it's not quite a cello.
Do they normally have two drummers now or did they just use another guy for this?
What's the name of the song?
well we dont need your lousy criticism.
boring guitar work? I disagree completely. Marr's and Isaac's guitars are doing a lot of great stuff, just as gyro said. If you think the acoustic is simple, that's cuz it is. It's only there to be a simple, catchy, repeated melody.

this band used to be something special. did eric judy quit?
lmao... which of theirs is on kids bop??
haha "good god's dam"
And we all thought Isaac was atheist...
do you know him personally or something?

No one else misses the pre Float On era? This just seems so generic compared to their older material.
There are 2 generations of mm fans, theres alot of kids whos minds will be blown when they listen to lonesome crowded west for the first time.

i HATE craig ferguson, he's not funny at all.... but i LOVE modest mouse, so it works
It's actually pretty awful.

Band with two drummers + lead singer using megaphone effect = losers Johnny Marr saves them.
