Concert de Steven Isserlis i Connie Shih

La Fundació Pau Casals organitza cada any un concert al Palau de la Música Catalana per homenatjar al cèlebre músic català, de la mà de les interpretacions dels millors violoncel·listes del món. Aquest concert és una de les principals activitats de la Diada Pau Casals - Barcelona, una iniciativa que té per objectiu difondre el llegat musical i humanístic del mestre i donar a conèixer el seu vincle històric amb la ciutat de Barcelona.
Aquest any la interpretació anirà a càrrec del violoncel·lista londinenc Steven Isserlis i la pianista canadenca Connie Shih, ambdós dues figures de renom internacional. Isserlis és considerat per la crítica especialitzada com un dels violoncel·listes més excel·lents i virtuosos del món. Interpretaran una selecció de Sonates de Camille Saint-Saëns, Ludwig van Beethoven i Sergei Rakhmàninov, a més d’una balada de Julius Isserlis inspirada en Pau Casals.

Today my life is quite kind to me for granting a tremendous pleasure of finding another treasure of Saint-Sean's cello sonata. Furthermore I got to meet fabulous couple of Isserlis and Shih who masterfully showed me the way to the musical ecstacy. What did I do yesterday to deserve this? Bravo! Qui Rachmaninov prende il volo per i cieli ultimi e disegna un universo di suoni che vanno dal mistero al sognante e pure al romantico eccelso. Haha he does exactly what he mocked a cello student for in a recorded masterclass earlier in his career, and in the exact same part of the Rachmaninov sonata! This is at 1:07:00 onwards - the little goat vibratos as he calls them on the two note motifs - vibrating only the second one.
