    Hi, I'm Ryan from The Weather Channel. Can we use this video and your aerial video over Lake of the Ozarks on air and online? We'll give you credit.

      Money and to see his FAA, TFR number. Closed airspace and requires a TFR to fly above it.

    Same thing was going on at Table Rock dam here in S.W. MO at that time. Made for a helluva waterfall sight down stream at Powersite dam on Lake Tanycomo.

    Obvious that you are no structural engineer since you made the comments. Also obvious is that it was perfectly fine to stand and drive across the bridge since: It Is Still There !!

    This is a bunch of tragic needless cruelness by Ameren Missouri. They saw all that rain coming and were warned days ahead of this and should and could have drew the lake down at that point via turbine generation. They don't care about the good people and farmers along the entire length of the Osage river basin from Bagnell Dam all the way down to Bonnots Mill. All they give a damn about is their precious lake and the filthy greedy rich people that own million dollar homes on the banks of the lake. And the 1/4 million dollar 40 foot off shore power boats. Shame on you Ameren Missouri for being so cold and heartless to the folks that you are dumping all this water on. You've tore a hell of a lot of good peoples lives apart by this. Like I previously stated. THIS COULD have been avoided but obviously was NOT.

      He's actually quite right. Part of the job of any dam operators/supervisors is keeping the level in check. If inches of rain are expected in coming days, you take the burden off from the dam ahead of time, not when it is flooding in during an emergency situation. Even the Army Corps of Engineers will tell you that...

      I have a home Down at Lake Ozarks most people don't have millions dollar homes down their though I do have a friend that does most houses down their like mine only cost about a couple 100 thousand dollars also I think that Ameren do care about the people on the Osage and the people that live on the Osage did know this was a possibility when they bought their home on the Osage.

    I am not a structural engineer, but i am sure they calculated every possible risk, but I am afraid looking at this dam's thickness, I would not risk my life crossing it or standing anywhere near down stream, it should have been at least twice the width as there is no way it would stop earth quake set tsunami waves if that wall was suddenly hit by a lot more pressure than standing pool of water, earth quakes and tremors can weaken the structure. There is no safety margin in its construction, it has been build with bare minimum calculated steel and concrete I guess to save on construction cost. No I do not feel safe with it, sorry. Being near it is like being on an air plane, I don't like flying either despite the fact more people die of car accidents.But that's me and my instinctive feelings.Hey before you say how wrong I am, look to your right on how many dam disasters are there on you tube! Who designed those? Structural Engineers specialised in building dams calculated all those dams that caved in!

    • @schnitzengruuba
      @schnitzengruuba 8 лет назад +10

      +samdomding yep, you are right. You are not a structural engineer.

    • @msgcheckout
      @msgcheckout 8 лет назад

      +schnitzengruuba Why did you need to reaffirm this, I had already said I am not a structural Engineer, so I am not putting my life at risk going anywhere near that Dam, because i explained previously bare minimum essential requirements nearly always leads to disasters, cracks, and so on, this wouldn't be the first dam to collapse should there be major earth quake, it will not stand any chance.

    • @schnitzengruuba
      @schnitzengruuba 8 лет назад

      samdomding How do you know so much critical detail of dam design requirements when you are not an engineer?

    • @msgcheckout
      @msgcheckout 8 лет назад

      +schnitzengruuba That is the point, you don't have to be, as long as you have an ounce of common sense and apportioning sense , you can beat any structural Engineer at his game twice or even thrice at his game with many fold more safety, only snag is cost will go up, but you do not measure lives with cost.

    • @schnitzengruuba

    Rather boring actually. Nothing new to see here. I've witnessed this same exact scene at Bagnell Dam at least a dozen times. Maybe it's time that Ameren Missouri reconsiders what exactly a desirable "Full Pool" should be on the Lake of the Ozarks. Drop it from 660 down to 657, and this won't happen.

    • @sharkheadism
      @sharkheadism 8 лет назад

      +Gentleman Joe That 3 feet is millions of dollars worth of inventory lost. Not gonna happen.

    • @thegreenerthemeaner
      @thegreenerthemeaner 8 лет назад

      +sharkheadism How is it lost inventory? I say that because the last time I visited there, they were not generating anything but house power and had no need to produce any power. Things change and so if they are generating, 3 feet of water is important.

    • @sharkheadism
      @sharkheadism 8 лет назад

      thegreenerthemeaner 3 feet is a lot of water my man

    • @thegreenerthemeaner
      @thegreenerthemeaner 8 лет назад

      +sharkheadism 3 feet is a lot of water. Why it exists were it does when it does is a lot more. I live and farm right next to the Missouri River. After the bungling of the Corp of Engineers playing with lake levels, having emergency storage and maintaining it behind any dam is very important. Even more so with the wild swings in the weather. Too bad if someone has to go down a ladder or steps to get to the water. Which is more important to a vast majority of people, food or water skiing?

    • @sharkheadism
      @sharkheadism 8 лет назад

      thegreenerthemeaner Well I agree, but my point was that 3 feet of stored water is literally millions of dollars worth of energy
