you really read some bangers here! It is amazing how Ernaux is able to take a harrowing experience for her, and write about it in a literary way. Just amazing. I read The Nineties awhile ago and felt the same way while, like you, enjoying parts.
@@madeubook , many of her other books are about relationships and I’ve enjoyed some of those. I recently read The Young Man and really liked that. I haven’t liked as much either Simple Passion or Getting Lost. The Years is more her sharing about different time periods of her life from a social/ political perspective. You have to be in that right mind space for it. Have fun exploring!
Thank you so much and I have to gush and say that I adore your channel! You are constantly adding books to my TBR and your possibility videos are my faves. I love that you don't commit but still walk us through what is on your radar. I am so grateful for @abookolive and being able to connect with some BookTubers I have been enjoying for a while.
I’m new to your channel and I really enjoyed this video because you have similar tastes in books as me. I also really like the way you review books because you talk more about your opinions than the plot of the books. Some booktubers give away too much of the plot and not enough of their opinions, likes, dislikes, etc. I put some of these books on my TBR. You mentioned that you read 15 - 20 books per month which is impressive! Any tips on how you accomplish that?
Hi Cathy, thanks for the comment and I am glad we have similar taste. As far as tips go, one of the main reasons that I get so much reading in is that I travel for work a lot and get a lot of reading done on flights and in the evening once I'm back at the hotel. However, I do have a couple habits outside of that which I find work for me. 1. I set my alarm for 30 minutes before I want/need to get out of bed each morning. I dedicate that time to reading a book I keep on my nightstand. This is a great way to ease into my day and since I started doing it last year, it has really upped my numbers. 2. I listen to audiobooks as I follow along with an e-book or physical one. This is great because I can supplement with the audio while I am driving, grocery shopping, cooking dinner, etc. 3. I always have a book with me. You would be surprised how many opportunities pop up where you can cram a couple pages in. I hope some of these things help.
@@madeubook Thank you so much for the great tips! I can see how you can read so many books. I especially like the idea of setting the alarm 30 minutes early. I also found listening to audiobooks upped my numbers too when I started listening to them. Thanks again. Happy Reading! 😊
I’ve been meaning to get to Cold Enough for Snow for ages - you’ve certainly bumped it up my list!! I’m hearing mixed things about North Woods, but delighted to see that you loved it as I bought it over Christmas 😂 Happening was brilliant - completely agree!! Oh no on the sound issue!! I’ve filmed whole videos to find that the sound hasn’t recorded before - so annoying! 🤦♀️
It's the worst! I recently switched from filming on my phone to a proper camera and I am still learning. I am glad i was at least able to save half of the video. If i lost the whole thing, I would have cried. haha
Awesome mix of 12 books for January, Gretchen! That might not be a lot for you but it certainly is for me :) Glad you got to read such a diverse collection of stories. Question: can't help but notice Great Circle on your shelf. Have you read that one? I would love to know your thoughts on it.
Unfortunately, I haven't read it yet. However, it is one of the ones that I have on my potential Booker Backlist options and this comment might be the push I need to prioritize it. I have heard amazing things about it so I hope that it is a good one.
You talked about a lot of books that are definitely outside my normal wheelhouse of books I seek out, but you still made them intriguing! I might have to check a few of these out. Glad I found your channel!
Haha! Your comment is spot on! And thanks for taking a chance on my channel. I was so touched that Olive took the time to give me a shout out and since then, I have had so many kind people reach out to me. Thanks for being one of them!

Thanks! Any suggestions for my next Ernaux?

@abookolive sent me here! Happy Reading! 😎📚👍
Awesome! Thank you!
Odd, weird, niche books - SIGN ME UP! 😂 Love the comparison to Trust...that makes me want to pick it up even more!
It’s like Trust in format and structure only, but it was cool to read another book set up in the same way.
Found you through @abookolive loved north woods as well!!!

I'm amazed that you got through Barbra's book, Gretchen! I am an admirer of her talents but not enough to read her book so thanks for your review.
I still can't believe I did it myself. Haha

What’s your typical genre? I like to read different genres from time to time.
@@madeubook I'm mostly under the speculative fiction umbrella. Horror, fantasy/urban fantasy, sci-fi.
Big ego, big book. I'll pass on that one. Found you through abookolive.
