Gary is a human treasure, a blessing to all who know him or his music, a timeless gift and illustration of the beauty and worth of music and lyrics, from the heart; a beautiful soul and spirit who's impact should never be under estimated, and should be forever recognized and celebrated as coming from Northern Ireland, but effected the entire world, improving it, by his humanity and kindness. If you are unfamiliar with the depth of his work please dive in, it will be worth your to date complete and ongoing exploration within and outside of Snow Patrol, he is gifted, and dedicated to giving.
Gary is sweet and humble... Bob Dylan isn’t. Dylan is a great lyricist but never meet him. Incredibly disappointing experience... Dylan was a w*nker... it a talented w*nker
These are some of Gary's best lyrics... so vivid and heartfelt :) I hope to god that these Heaney-inspired songs appear on the upcoming Snow Patrol album.
Lyrics I Think of Home - Gary Lightbody I remember trips to Belfast On that train that hugs the coast The fields turned quickly into golf course The golf course just as fast to fields It was a callow boast I’ll grant you To know it all when we knew none Those days we walked the streets of Belfast Like our kingdom come had come I think of home I often do You gotta know I love you now In this light how could I not I think of us just silly kids I bet we thought we’d never age And if we did we’d never dare say I remember trips to Derry On the old car’s freezing seats And I know fountain street in winter My grandma’s laugh the greatest noise It’s sure been harder since she left us And none of us have been the same But the light she left is endless And I still see her every day I think of home I often do You gotta know I love you now In this light how could I not I think of us just silly kids I bet we thought we’d never age And if we did we’d never dare say I remember trips through Ireland One caravan, two dogs, the sky My father yelling points of interest Us snotty kids just rolled our eyes The punched-out teeth of Irish history Mistakes were made let’s leave it there There one’s thing we can all agree on There’s beauty north, south, east and west There’s beauty north, south, east and west I think of home I often do You gotta know I love you now In this light how could I not I think of us just silly kids I bet we thought we’d never age And if we did we’d never dare say I think of home I often do You gotta know I love you now In this light how could I not
i miss my grandparents too. when i go to Parque Municipal in Belo Horizonte, my grandfather used to go there with me almost everyday to give old bread to the fishes and ducks at the lake.

He is just so beautiful..the lyrics are so beautiful too .will never stop listening to this wonderful music 🥲
Gary is like Ireland's very own Bob Dylan wish I could meet him.
I met him in June and he is such a humble, adorable guy. Very much unchanged by fame. Gracious and loving
He really is. He’s a humble Bob! No, Bob is o-k. I’m in love with Gary, though... I wish I could meet him! One day, maybe. 💜😊

Had the luck to have heard it in the gig in advance. So touching.

This aged well
I wish this would've ended up on an album!
This is the one. He played it on Tuesday night. Gorgeous
Used that train many times being a Holywood lad. This song brings in some memories. Brillant.
Lyrics
I Think of Home - Gary Lightbody
I remember trips to Belfast
On that train that hugs the coast
The fields turned quickly into golf course
The golf course just as fast to fields
It was a callow boast I’ll grant you
To know it all when we knew none
Those days we walked the streets of Belfast
Like our kingdom come had come
I think of home I often do
You gotta know I love you now
In this light how could I not
I think of us just silly kids
I bet we thought we’d never age
And if we did we’d never dare say
I remember trips to Derry
On the old car’s freezing seats
And I know fountain street in winter
My grandma’s laugh the greatest noise
It’s sure been harder since she left us
And none of us have been the same
But the light she left is endless
And I still see her every day
I think of home I often do
You gotta know I love you now
In this light how could I not
I think of us just silly kids
I bet we thought we’d never age
And if we did we’d never dare say
I remember trips through Ireland
One caravan, two dogs, the sky
My father yelling points of interest
Us snotty kids just rolled our eyes
The punched-out teeth of Irish history
Mistakes were made let’s leave it there
There one’s thing we can all agree on
There’s beauty north, south, east and west
There’s beauty north, south, east and west
I think of home I often do
You gotta know I love you now
In this light how could I not
I think of us just silly kids
I bet we thought we’d never age
And if we did we’d never dare say
I think of home I often do
You gotta know I love you now
In this light how could I not
The greatest song ever wrote the one thing we all agree on end off
"My grandma's laugh the greatest noise"
This is gorgeous.
Just say yes. Cheers for mentioning Derry lad. Fair play lad. 🍀 much love.
i miss my grandparents too. when i go to Parque Municipal in Belo Horizonte, my grandfather used to go there with me almost everyday to give old bread to the fishes and ducks at the lake.

Aisaka Taiga we love gary
Is this an original or a cover?
ahumble2007 Gary wrote this song :)
Thanks. I just haven't heard it before today
like kingdom come had come ...
X
This sounds like a cover? Totally Gary's lyrics and music, but it doesn't sound like him? Anyone else agree?
That probably has to do with mic levels and the sound mix at the venue. I saw him perform this with Johnny McDaid in Nashville, It's def him :)
