Ooooh man!! This is finally finished!! And it’s not as great as I wanted it to be but it’s finished!! Aha I started this about 6-7 weeks ago for my media arts class, so please don’t mind the errors. And because of a ton of inconveniences I had to do like 90% of this at home hahaHA,,, I tried to make this good buuuuuuuut because it was so overdue I had to make a lot of it really quickly unfortunately. So rip. Anyways, a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE shoutout to Velo Cira for editing and adding the sound / music!! You guys should all go check out her channel *_*
Anyways, when I read this scene in Yellowfang’s Secret, I absolutely knew I had to animate it! And I’d always wanted to animate a Warriors scene, and this school project gave me the opportunity to do so which is amazing! This was probably one of my favourite scenes from Yellowfang's Secret. Admittedly the book takes a little while to pick up in my opinion, but it's still pretty good and once it gets going it REALLY gets going.
But yeah. Just a somewhat quick project made in ToonBoom Studio 8.1. Again, it's not my favourite video but I did learn some pretty quick, useful techniques at least?? And even if it's not my favourite animation I hope you guys like it! Also, now that I can continue with my own personal stuff, expect a lot of new animations!!

Fair enough, but Raggedstar spent his entire life wondering about his dad and feeling a some sort of sense that something was missing without him. He was upset about it literally all the time and it was really affecting him and his behavior. And many other cats in the clan were making rumors about him and his father. Eventually he sneaks out and after a lot of confrontation he meets Hal, who lies and claims he isn't his father. Maybe he doesn't entirely DESERVE to be killed, but after finally meeting his dad and having him taunt him and make fun of him over what he has been picked on and whispered about for his entire life and discovering he was a lying douchebag, I can definitely see why Raggedstar acted out in the moment. Raggedstar was kinda shook by his own actions afterwards but it also enabled him to feel a sense of freedom, without feeling like some sort of outcast within his own clan

Raggedstar reaped what he sowed. The same way he killed his father over so little, Brokenstar killed him. Raggedstar becoming leader was one of the root causes of Shadowclan's problems

Eh, Raggedstar wasn't really a bad leader. He was just too good of a father. He quite literally would have given the world to Brokenstar. He saw too late the type of cat his son truly was.
If you are unable to instill values in your son and let him run wild while spoiling him, then he's not a good father. Even when he saw full well how Brokenpaw was disobeying Nightcloud, Raggedstar didn't come in there to give him a different mentor or to enforce Nightcloud's rules. He let Brokenpaw and Brokentail get away with everything instead of just telling him "no" at one point, and that is part of being a parent: instilling common decency and respect.
Brokenstar grew up thinking that he deserves the world on a platter thanks to Raggedstar, and that attitude was probably the most harmful to him, even worse than the bullying from his siblings. Raggedstar was far from being a wise leader when he showed so much bias.

Raggedstar really wasn't a bad leader. Out of Shadowclan's dark history, he and Blackstar are some of the better leaders. No he isn't the best father in the world. Even if he didn't mean to, I know he ruined his son. Perhaps he was trying to avoid what Hal did to him, I don't know.
Raggedstar was all too willing to ignore Brokentail's excesses and look the other way even when he was doing all kinds of horrible things without so much as a word against him. Around the point that Brokentail started asking apprentices to hang themselves by their jaws to a tree and causing them physical harm, any good leader would have intervened, but Raggedstar doesn't lift so much as a whisker at it.
That's what separates him from Blackstar. When Blackstar finds bad cats in his clan, he brings down the hammer and does punish them. Raggedstar was willing to let his clan suffer because he didn't want to discipline his kid. Raggedstar was an okay leader at best, but definitely a weak one who was too easily swayed by his own personal baggage and is basically the direct reason that Shadowclan becomes the mess it does for generations onward. Though arguably you could blame Cedarstar for the mess, seeing how he promoted Raggedpaw even after his disastrous plan with the rats.

Yes, he was a weak leader. His fatal flaw. Seems that's the problem with Shadowclan either their leaders are too strong(Brokenstar) or too weak(Nightstar).

All three cats were panting and wild-eyed, a terrible tension singing among them. “Tell me this cat isn’t my father,” Raggedpelt growled at Featherstorm. His mother flicked her tail. “He gave up the right to be called that a long time ago. It was his decision.” Raggedpelt’s eyes widened as he stared at Hal. “You knew all along? But when I found you, you didn’t say anything!” Hal shrugged. “You want nothing to do with Twolegplace cats. I want nothing to do with the Clans.”
“You have no idea what it was like, growing up without a father.” Raggedpelt’s words sounded as if he we’re being choked. “And now I found out that my father is a kittypet! Everything my Clanmates taunted me with is true!” Yellowfang felt her heart tear with sympathy for Raggedpelt, more painful than any wound. She took a pace toward him. “That doesn’t matter!” She told him. “Every cat knows that you are a Shadowclan warrior.” Raggedpelt bounded on her, his teeth bared. “Stay out of this,” He snarled. As Yellowfang gazed at him, unable to leave but not knowing what else she could say, the sounds of fighting drifted through the trees, screeches and the crackling of paws through undergrowth growling steadily nearer. “You should have never come here,” Featherstorm snapped at Hal, then bounded away toward the noise of battle. Raggedpelt turned to his father, stiff-legged with fury, his neck fur bristling and his tail brushed out to twice its size. “Leave now,” He ordered. “And never come back.” Hal gave his chest fur a slow, deliberate lick. “You can’t tell me what to do, son.” He drawled. “I am not your son!” Raggedpelt growled, taking a threatening step forward. “I am a Shadowclan warrior!”
“A warrior with kittypet blood in his veins,” Hal taunted him. “Will your so-called clanmates ever forget that?” With a roar of fury Raggedpelt sprang at him; His claws slashed across Hal’s throat. Yellowfang felt agony flash across her neck and through all her body, and for a heartbeat the snow-covered forest turned black in her eyes. When she recovered, panting and blinking, she saw Hal’s body lying limp on the ground with a great gush of scarlet blood flowing from his throat, staining the snow. “You killed him!” She gasped, staring in horror. “He should have left when he had the chance.” Raggedpelt snarled. “But he was your father!” Yellowfang protested. Raggedpelt turned to face her. Yellowfang could see her own horror reflected in his eyes, but his voice was cold. “He was nothing but a useless kittypet.” Before Yellowfang could say more, new cat scent drifted over her.

What he didn't realize is that he caused some twolegs a lot of grief.
Edit: After some time, even though Raggedstar's father was a pretty bad father and basically a jerk I can't help but feel sorry for his twolegs who probably loved their cat only for him to go missing for a bit and then find him dead or he never returned.
The twolegs came out from the house, it was late than usual for Hal to not come back. They tried shouting his name, even tried ringing his favourite toy, but he didn't come back, so the Tom twoleg went out and tried to search for Hal, but the the She-Twoleg followed as well. Thye searched and searched, they called and called. Nothing answered. After many hours of searching, they stood upon fur, it look like Hals, but wait, his collar bell and name tag fell, with blood on the snow and fur. When the tom checked the name, he gasped with grief, devastated, he told his mate, and, tears swelling up, they huggedeachother, sitting on the snow, grieving for their dead cat.

I just thought of a completely irrelevant theory; What if Marmalade was Jake's brother? O.o I mean the timeline fits accurately. Pinepaw (Pinestar) met Jake's mother (I forgot her name) and she also had a few other kits. Jake at the time of Ragged pelt and Yellowpaw meeting Marmalade was probably off fathering Scourge (Tiny) at this time. So he wasn't at all mentioned. Marmalade is ginger and well muscled as described in the book, and so was Jake.
Idk I was just reading Yellowfang's Secret and I thought of this, and honestly I believe Marmalade is Firestar's uncle.

The same arrogance Hal had that got him killed was clearly passed onto Raggedstar which is why he died. If Ragged hadn't stuck his nose in the air and listened to Yellowfang maaaaybe he would not have been slaughtered... hard to say

This is amazing!!,I do see 1 flaw tho. Only 1!! He bit down and blood went on his mouth and around etc. But he stood up, and in between killing him and leaning upwards he somehow cleaned his mouth XD
Yeaaaaaah I noticed a while ago and debated fixing it but figured that the still image of Hal gave him enough time to wipe his mouth in between I guess lmao.

Rereading Warriors when you’re older makes you realize how dark it really is, the kits getting killed near the end though- I cried like 5 times reading Yellowfang’s Secret.
