  • Once boasting, “Whether I retire to bed early or late, I rise with the sun,” Thomas Jefferson kept a regimented schedule throughout his life. His usual day included friends, family, and dedicated time to reading and writing.

Join us on Thursday, June 30, at 1:00 p.m. ET for a live Q&A with Thomas Jefferson, interpreted by Bill Barker. We will discuss Jefferson’s daily routines, how they changed over time, and how the work of enslaved people made Jefferson’s lifestyle possible.

    Hello from Huntsville, Alabama 🇺🇸.
I have long been an admirer of Mr. Jefferson and have visited Monticello, much to my delight.
I have watched Mr. Barker’s interpretation of Thomas Jefferson many times and am fascinated as to how he stays in character. He is truly a talented man and I truly appreciate his role in bringing history to life.
Thanks to everyone involved in these marvelous programs. God bless.

I'm joining from Houston, TX. However, I lived in VA for quite a few years, not half a mile from Poplar Forest (before it was restored) and visited Monticello dozens of times over the years. I guess you could say I'm a bit obsessed with all things Thomas Jefferson!

I wonder how old Mr Barker is and how much longer he will interpret Thomas Jefferson I haven't been to Monticello in several years. I think it's time to pay a visit. I'd love to see Mr Barker in person. That would be a great honor

Is that a set? It’s rather stark for Monticello. To see him set amongst his actual rooms with his bed, bookstand, etc. would be delightful!

From Los Angeles foothills, what a delightful and wonderful visit with a splendid actor and orator, thank you for this brief visit into respectful conversation and sharing. I love the story of the traveling thermometer! I too check every morning, to what purpose than curiosity with Mother Nature. One suggestion would be to have him in an atmosphere more indicative of his library or study, he transported me with his expressions and stories, his appearance and gestures, you could do the same with the set dressing and provide him with more to immerse the storytelling. Thank you again!
