I see your point in the weigh in time and the amount of time left to rehydrate for the bigger guy, but I just look at what you said at how much it affects the body negatively with that much of weight cut and with strength loss so that guy cutting that much is at a disadvantage in my mind to have to cut that weight bc you may rehydrate your weight, but that strength still isn’t gonna be peaked and your body still nutrient depleted. These are pros and they sign the contracts knowing the rules so as long as they agree to it then it’s fair in my mind.

Some people are naturally closer to weightclasses, so instead of forcing them to compete in a higher weight bracket where they are at a disadvantage, they can sweat out a few lbs of water go down one instead, and potentially gain a slight advantage.
They are allowed to rehydrate via IV so the risks are substantially lower than that in actual combat sports.
Like the guy above said, when does it end, people only allowed to use the same amount of steroids and have the same body dimensions and age..??
People think this is a huge health concern, yet are ok with athletes putting on 100+ pounds through heavy PED usage putting tremendous strain on their heart, kidney, liver and joints for years on end.

Let me tell you why that doesn't actually add any fairness, Coach Ray. Everybody within the current rules can already do the exact same thing that Devon is doing. They can get as big as they want and cut as much as they want. All changing it to same day weigh-ins does is to eliminate an element of strategy. It's a bit like eliminating top roll, king's move, etc. You just make everybody hook so that they have the same chance without worrying too much about strategy and technique.
Do we really want to eliminate every single way people can use the rules to their advantage just to make it so that those who don't want to don't have to?

    Hot take.
Weigh-in's for all sports should be at the actual time of competition.
If your frame is too big to compete at a lighter class, even at single digit body fat, congratulations. you can compete at a higher weight class.
The entire point of weight classes is to have people of similar frame sizes and densities a chance to compete with each other instead of people double their size.
If you wanna do PED's, that's on you, but they increase your sports performance mainly by way of increasing your muscle mass. Making you heavier.
My other hot take is there should be a natty league and an untested league too.

This will not be an easy match for Devon by any means. Yes, he's the bigger guy and has a small window to rehydrate and recoup, but this type of weight loss won't come without drawbacks. Devon used to cut from 114 kg to 102 kg for the WAL league in heavyweight. Which is 250 lbs to 225 lbs. If he was really 273 lbs and down to 231 thats more extreme, but I doubt he was really that high at the peak. But regardless his clothed 114 kg to 105 kg in a week is doable, assuming 1-2 kg of clothes and then the water he should hit 105 kg. But I think he will be much much weaker.

If he does make the weight, zero chance he defends this title if he wins. If he can’t make it, still have the match but not for the title. It would just be for entertainment and I would be OK with that.

It's like 20lbs in water cut. I've done that for wrestling. It's possible. And unlike me (who in wrestling only had about 60-90min to rehydrate before the match after weigh-in), Dev's got plenty of time to recover before fighting.

@@Trooson Well, if we're going to compare... it is not "way different." Because when I cut 20lbs water for matches in wrestling, I'd already cut bodyfat down to about 5% (as measured by a doc). I'd been 190 at the end of football. I was certified to wrestle at 152 just 2.5 weeks later. Suffice it to say I only had just so much fat weight to cut so I also loss some muscle, and then it'd be another 20lb to get to 152 at the weigh-in for the match....which was only 60-90 minutes before the match.
So 48h before the match would be no food, no water, full wrestling practice, extra 1-2h of half sprints and half fast jogs at the track, and before bed a brutal heat bath that had me dizzy for hours as I lay sweating on towels on my bed. Oh right, and I'd towel-seal my door and open my windows to shiver some extra weight away over night.
If anything that was harder. And I would never do it again because it was self-defeating. I was running on willpower only. Just drained, exhausted, and could only think of food and water.

Guys, cutting down from 115 to 105 is not the same as going down from, let's say, 85 to 75. The heavier you are, the more leverage you have. For example, for Levan would be even easier to go from 180 to 170 n not lose strength at all.

Devon's body was falling apart since his Dave match when he uncontrollably lost weight going down from 283 down to about 267 for Ermes and then 263 for Levan when his target was to gain 10 pounds, not lose 10. He didn't know if his body would ever regain form. Even he was surprised to see his body was 273 for Leonidas, practically without any effort 10lbs heavier than he was for Levan. It's thanks to all the rest he got.

You deplete your carbohydrates about 1 week out, with the glycogen from your muscles gone you lose around 2kg at Devon's weight. You should be eating low volume and fibre foods for the week, so you empty your intestines as much as possible without getting constipated.
Then you drink about 6-10 liters of water with added minerals for about 4-7 days out from competition. Simply put you will pee like crazy, even when you completely stop drinking 1-2 days out. Then you add in sauna etc. To lose the missing amount. Someone as lean as Devon and weighing 110-115 has no trouble losing 10 kg in water.
People saying he can't lose the weight because he is so lean don't know how a weight cut works. The more muscle and less fat you carry at a given weight the better.
Now I typed all this and the vid got to the part where Janis explains everything anyways 😅
