That Abyss watchers fight was hilarious, he's so inexperienced yet managed to clear first stage before any more watchers show up missing out on one of the best fights in the series.
Its not the Hammer its just that the abyss watchers are easy when you have a weapon with high damage and stagger. Its not that asmon has a busted weapon. dark souls 3 is just busted

The reason he is so overpowered is because he is using Vordt's great hammer which has great damage, frost build up, hyper armor, and great stagger potential. The only annoying thing is that he seems to have no idea how basic mechanics work and does not read item descriptions.

I am playing a 10 vigor build (minimum lvl vigor for deprived class) with a no-armor str character so I heavily rely on roll-dodges to get through everything. Any new enemy that is not a pushover requires learning their attack patterns so in that process, I will die quite some times before I finally beat them. everyone can play their own way, whether it makes their game harder or easier, who cares. chat is 90% braindead people.
I like how he just plays the game normally (having a good weapon, killing mobs, leveling up) and some people are jealous that it's actually working out for him. I'm pretty sure they have never played the game. Asmon was cleary unexperienced but he enjoyed playing and that's what matters when it comes to video games.
I would point out that he was level 46 for the Abyss Watchers, and the recommended level for them is 35+, so he's roughly ten levels over the minimum recommendations. I don't think it was a matter of him being over-leveled. It's not like DSP where off screen he went from like level 50 to level 100, or something. He had a great setup for the Abyss Watchers, using a heavy weapon against their ZERO poise and staggering them to death. I mean, he can't even use Vordt's Great Hammer without two-handing it, his strength is only 26, and he had a fat roll despite the fact that you can't really poise tank in Dark Souls 3.
Yeah Vordt's is absolutely bonkers against the watchers. Add in the leveling that naturally happens if you do Cathedral and the fight can be extremely forgiving.
You can absolutely poise tank in DS3. Next time you play DS3 try using the mace for the whole game. The basic mace. Boss fights, or any fight goes like this: Buff mace, two hand. L2, R1, R1, R1, L2, R1, R1, roll backwards, recover stamina. repeat until whatever is in front of you is dead. Even Nameless King gets face rolled by this setup. I just recently did a strength playthrough and was disgusted at how effective it was.
The game is easy with any of the "ultra" weapons, Vord's Great Hammer is in that category with the benefit of the most OP debuff = 110 Frostbite. Actually Great Hammers have the most Poise damage in the game and in the meantime Hyper Armor is a real thing that works. Not to mention that Frostbite works on a lot of Bosses and against any normal enemy with 2~3 hits.
The greatsword is underated. If you imbue it heavy and get the pyro buff the AR is in the 700s and it looks super cool flaming with the flaming knight gear from the DLC. It's not a great boss weapon - it's a bit slow. But still good for regular mobs.
Still baffles me to this day the Abyss Watchers' health pool hasn't been buffed by From. Even with an average weapon, they're so underwhelming despite how cool the fight looks.

They stagger easily, they can be parried and backstabbed, they are very easy to follow and counter and their hp is ridiculously low. For comparison's sake, Father Gascoigne is also supposed to be the first or second boss you fight in Bloodborne, and that fight (difficulty-wise) puts the Abyss Watchers (which are generally the 4th or 5th boss you normally fight) to shame.

Honestly the game becomes way easier with heavy-hitting weapons, i remember i switched to one after Aldrich and had a really easy time with most of the game.

Souls game definitely have some op weapons, I've tried a full dex build with double blade and thunder resin which just hit Crystal Sage to death without him entering second phase

Demon King is the first Boss where a player must learn. You cant just tank the hits. Fat rolling defiantly wont help. Of course Asmon, as a very experienced streamer knows this. He is doing it for effect. For the "hype". I love that he is putting points in luck to prove a point.

This is the first stream Asmon got me legitimately mad. I don't really mind him googling things, or going with a STR weapon to hyper-armor his way through. I dislike any sort of elitism that implies there is only one correct way to play Dark Souls. I'm mad because he doesn't take the time to actually learn how the game works. If you're going to break a blind playthrough, at least search how scaling and infusing works. If you're going to play off-stream, at least learn how special attacks work. And please, just take a couple of seconds to process the information shown in the menus!

Thanks to these playthroughs by Asmongold, I realized how much fun the Vordt Hammer is. Not only is it powerful on it's own but the 110 frost effect is very nutty. I started playing the game again a second time so I can play with a friend and I'm doing what I call a FrostThaw build. Basically I use Vordt's hammer to do massive frost damage then a fire weapon to remove the status allowing me to continuously reapply the effect. In arena styled pvp, it doesn't work as well but in invasions and such, it's incredible since opponents tend to heal. Infusing a weapon with either Chaos or Fire gem in the left hand can work but in my case, I use the demon fists since you can parry and have access to a really good moveset and since both weapons scale mostly on Strength, it allows me to focus on other stats like vitality for a higher grade armor and Faith for support spells. The mixups you can do with both weapons forces opponents to constantly adapt. It's just so good. Try it.

Why should the player go to lengths to harden his own experience if the game doesn't do it? I had no clue which way to go at first, so went trough the Cathedral first. By the time I got to the Abyss Watchers with my + 2 Hollow Greatsword I pretty much ate the boss on my first try. There were no sign to tell me "Hey go this way now or the boss will get easy".
Imagine getting angry over a newcomer to the series taking the intended Cathedral -> Abyss Watchers route and doing the boss first try while you are trash at the game and spent hours on one of the easiest bosses of the game, deemed from DAY ONE to be a casual filter. Hm, really makes you think 🤔

I overlevel my character for dark souls III playthrough in order to make it more entertaining and it prevents me from having 3 - 5 hours of gameplay for each boss fight.

He's absolutely right about the camera being on the left. Just look up the "F Pattern." In Western cultures, we are taught at a young age to read from left to right, so our first instinct is to draw our attention to the left. And streaming with a facecam is all about the reactions to stuff, more so than the gameplay, because let's be honest most of us have already either played Dark Souls or have watched someone else play it.
lol at the people thinking he's overleveled. Stagger is a thing with big weapons. Plus people need to remember frost damage is a thing. That combined with brute forcing your way beating a boss will work. Not all bosses. But Abyss Watchers is extremely easy with the right weapons. Asmon actually had a weapon that was more to his advantage. Even if he was let's say level 20-25, it would probably still be the same outcome. Plus he didn't put points into all but one stat, strength or dex. He might be even more powerful if he had done that.

Ark Payne they are meant to be fought at a low lvl >35 and they have multiple opponents if you don’t kill them quickly

Sol He is literally better than most of the people malding over his easy win. A lot of them are saying things like “it took me 20 tries, 50 tries, etc” yet it only took him 2. Regardless of if he got lucky or if he was overleveled - he is, by definition, better than them. What you described is one of the “best” players, but that doesn’t mean Asmon isn’t better than many of the people that are raging at him

Honestly the game becomes way easier with heavy-hitting weapons, i remember i switched to one after Aldrich and had a really easy time with most of the game.
Abyss watchers have very little hp. The boss itself is way to easy because he can be staggered way to much too easily.

I one shorted the Abyss Watchers and that Demon king yesterday… coming from Elden Ring the bosses so far are pretty easy
i love how chat gets so upset that he's overlevelled but when he asks them if he should stop levelling, there would be a long wall of NO's. then when he stops levelling anything damage wise like strength and instead levels his luck, they still get mad. there's really no pleasing chat, huh?

Demon King is the first Boss where a player must learn. You cant just tank the hits. Fat rolling defiantly wont help. Of course Asmon, as a very experienced streamer knows this. He is doing it for effect. For the "hype". I love that he is putting points in luck to prove a point.

What the hell, I've never seen that kind of poise in DS3...granted that I haven't played the game since the last DLC came out.
They updated the heavy weapons to actually have poise in the middle of the swing.

This is the first stream Asmon got me legitimately mad. I don't really mind him googling things, or going with a STR weapon to hyper-armor his way through. I dislike any sort of elitism that implies there is only one correct way to play Dark Souls. I'm mad because he doesn't take the time to actually learn how the game works. If you're going to break a blind playthrough, at least search how scaling and infusing works. If you're going to play off-stream, at least learn how special attacks work. And please, just take a couple of seconds to process the information shown in the menus!

Thanks to these playthroughs by Asmongold, I realized how much fun the Vordt Hammer is. Not only is it powerful on it's own but the 110 frost effect is very nutty. I started playing the game again a second time so I can play with a friend and I'm doing what I call a FrostThaw build. Basically I use Vordt's hammer to do massive frost damage then a fire weapon to remove the status allowing me to continuously reapply the effect. In arena styled pvp, it doesn't work as well but in invasions and such, it's incredible since opponents tend to heal. Infusing a weapon with either Chaos or Fire gem in the left hand can work but in my case, I use the demon fists since you can parry and have access to a really good moveset and since both weapons scale mostly on Strength, it allows me to focus on other stats like vitality for a higher grade armor and Faith for support spells. The mixups you can do with both weapons forces opponents to constantly adapt. It's just so good. Try it.

Why should the player go to lengths to harden his own experience if the game doesn't do it? I had no clue which way to go at first, so went trough the Cathedral first. By the time I got to the Abyss Watchers with my + 2 Hollow Greatsword I pretty much ate the boss on my first try. There were no sign to tell me "Hey go this way now or the boss will get easy".
Imagine getting angry over a newcomer to the series taking the intended Cathedral -> Abyss Watchers route and doing the boss first try while you are trash at the game and spent hours on one of the easiest bosses of the game, deemed from DAY ONE to be a casual filter. Hm, really makes you think 🤔

I overlevel my character for dark souls III playthrough in order to make it more entertaining and it prevents me from having 3 - 5 hours of gameplay for each boss fight.

He's absolutely right about the camera being on the left. Just look up the "F Pattern." In Western cultures, we are taught at a young age to read from left to right, so our first instinct is to draw our attention to the left. And streaming with a facecam is all about the reactions to stuff, more so than the gameplay, because let's be honest most of us have already either played Dark Souls or have watched someone else play it.

lol at the people thinking he's overleveled. Stagger is a thing with big weapons. Plus people need to remember frost damage is a thing. That combined with brute forcing your way beating a boss will work. Not all bosses. But Abyss Watchers is extremely easy with the right weapons. Asmon actually had a weapon that was more to his advantage. Even if he was let's say level 20-25, it would probably still be the same outcome. Plus he didn't put points into all but one stat, strength or dex. He might be even more powerful if he had done that.
Watchers need poise.
