The purple/pink sky is a nice throwback to the Playmates box art.
Wow, this brings back memories. I probably played this GB game more than any other.
There was a rumor at one point after the GBC was announced that we were getting a Fall of the Foot Clan DX which would have been a colorized version of the game. Obviously it wouldn't have looked as good as this, but at this jogged my memory of it.
Rumor in the game magazines or rumor on the school lunch room?
I wasn't aware of that rumor. Still a GBC port wouldn't have been ideal, best thing would have been a SNES port (and afterwards GBA)
I can remember the same rumor except it was for a colorized remake of “Metroid 2 Return of Samus” for GBC. It came VERY close to being released, but got shelved. Major bummer. That would also be a great game for Merso X to do... hint, hint 😉. Love your work!

First game I owned and beat on the GB... brings back so many memories sitting in my garage and just playing the hell out of this for 2 or 3 hours a day until I finally nailed it. Good job so far!
