the whole leader thing really depends on the group so sometimes the member who is the oldest or has trained the longest tends to be the leader and that is mainly because of the way the Korean culture is. for example, when someone is born in the year before you, you have to talk with honorifics so generally, it's just kinda weird for younger members to lead the older ones. however, for some it is not the case for example a group called enhypen: their leader is the second youngest in the group and another one called BTS where the 4th oldest member is the leader. and on how they choose the leader: either the group members pick one themselves or the company picks one that they think works the best. for soyeons case I think it's very clear how she was picked i mean she literally writes and composes almost all their songs,is extremely hard working,and just naturally seems to have that leader quality that not a lot of leaders actually possess.i would honestly say she is one of the few leaders in kpop i can actually imagine why they were picked i don't know if what I wrote here makes sense at all but gimme some slack it's like midnight here and I'm not a native so
