This is SO helpful, thank you!! As a yankee American, "O" is one of the most difficult sounds in Australian English for me. Breaking it down into 2 syllables has helped a tonne. However, in relation to my yankee accent, I hear your "O" as more of an "Ah-Ru." I hear my version of an "R" in there, which really trips me up. But, hearing you break it down and slowly repeat it has helped my brain comprehend what was going on in the accent much more easily. I've got alot of practice to do, but I'm miles ahead after this video. Thank you for doing what you do!!
I couldn't get the 'O' at first but while I was watching the english vocab part (it was amazing, I loved seeing the animals) I was practicing it and I think I finally got it! 😁 Excellent video, you're a really good teacher
I love this lesson of right pronunciation. I'm living here in Australia as immigrant since 2011. I want to learn more of the Australian accent. Thanks for your time sharing your video to us. GLO
I’m an America ex-pat living in Sydney (for the past 4 years). Your videos are fantastic! You’re the boss of breaking down the mysterious specifics of the beautiful Aussie accent 🤓❤️
Thanks for the great video. In fact I was one of the guys who requested to do Ozi “O” teaching. I think the sound is coming from back of the mouth/ throat rather than front and that’s the key to get it right. Cheers mate
American here. All I can say is I have never had such a hard time learning something. I have tried all kinds of British accents (RP, Cockney, Mancunian, Scouser, Geordie, Lancashire, Yorkshire), Irish accents, Scottish, and so forth, but the Aussie vowels are without a doubt the hardest to do.
Excellent way of teaching..I’ve always struggled with this and Aussies won’t understand what I say..thanks so much and glad to know that you’re from CBR
I KNEW I was hearing something special, like multiple vowels, all rolled up into that gorgeous Aussie O. Thank you for teaching us how to make that beautiful sound. 🥰
Proof positive that if you want the best teaching, go to the source. You’re better at explaining and teaching the dialect than any of the professional linguist’s videos I’ve seen. Awesome work my man
I couldn’t love this video any more. You have a good lesson and you took us for exploration. It is a good way to help me remember vocabularies.Cause I know how can I use it.
Very interesting video!! Wow... nice work. .... someday would you make how to pronounces the end of the -ough(t) / augh/aught(eg,laugh/laughter, caught etc) i'm very enjoy your videos!
Aussie English i'm from Thailand. I've been to Melbourne about 20 years ago. So long time no hear the aussie sound. LoL But it seemed to me that i would understand the Australian english better than American english. Anyway, i keep trying practice my English and thank you for you videos. I miss Australia so much.
Dear Pete, your "o" 's sound not as difficult as I expected. For me, personally, it was quite easy to pronounce. It just needs to have more practice of repeatition for not to forget . 😊 Thank you, Pete, for the exciting video! You do such useful job! 🤝❤️🤗😊
Thanks Pete. Finally you made the video. Yay! On the side note, could you do more videos about word pronunciation like the last one was 401-500 if I’m not mistaken. I really enjoy learning through these videos! Really appreciate your work and the effort you put on it to help us. I live in Sydney and surrounded by Aussie however they don’t have accent/speak like you. Bugger....
Aussie English btw mate, I’m Brazilian and currently based in Melbourne. If you want to get along with your Portuguese quicker so let me know as I might somehow be able to help you with that. You’ve been helping me a lot and I really appreciate your videos. Bonus suggestion for future videos: many Brazilians - and you might have noticed it from your wife - have issues with pronouncing words that start with “s”, like sleep, slash etc. I’ve been told many times that we tend to slightly put an “e” sound before the “s” sound, and we most likely do it because in Portuguese the raw “s” sound has this “e” sound in it. Indeed, we’d say “éssi” rather then a pure “s” sound. Could you please help me with that bloody “s” sound? Thanks again. Cheers.
The o Ozzie sound come to me sometimes, just because through the years I have picked it up, nothing plan just happened, osmosis I would say hehe. Nice video mate like you are showing the “bush” nature is Australia is so wonderful and within the cities , at least in Perth the Estuary and wetlands are just wonderful, to see dolphins in the rivers, fish, birds and all the flora diversity is just unique.
Thanks for the lesson! Can you comment on another vowel sound in nOW and abOUt? I learned to say [au] but aussies sound different. I hear more of [iao] sound. Am I correct?
When I type 'no' pretending to be Australian I type 'nö' or 'norrrrr' depending on how obnoxious I want to sound. Also found a Redback in the post box and looked em up and they're actually a little less dangerous than black widows which we have back home.
I've been trying to do the British "o" for a while but then one day I saw an Australian girl's video and later on she said "so". And I was surprised because that day I've noticed that she was doing the 'o' differently, but I found out that I wanted to talk British English with Australian "o"s!!
Reckon Yanks have a blue with "stir" and "her". They wanna go up at the end like in BE, when it really sounds like you spoke the first sound, and suddenly had to push something.
Yanks reckon our accents are impossible, but bugger me if you've ever tried a Southern American accent, like Tennessee. I can't bloody understand them. "Dog" is like "dowog" Tell the "dowog" to get "owoff".

I must say that Australian pronunciation of "O" is pretty special compared to other.
I lOve the Aussie 'O'
2:43 Imagine this part being played to someone out of context. Would be hilarious.

Aussie English, nope not an actress, but a lady with a thirst for challenging herself and learning new things! 😁
I was thinking I heard a bit of an R as well! It takes a trained ear to pick up the subtleties and nuances.
I definitely hear an R. Just barely, but it's there: O-oor.
I couldn't get the 'O' at first but while I was watching the english vocab part (it was amazing, I loved seeing the animals) I was practicing it and I think I finally got it! 😁 Excellent video, you're a really good teacher
I love hearing Australian Accent, hope to apply it soon, when I get to Australia!💕👌🏻😍
As an American, your O's sound like they end with an soft R sound. So like, no, sounds like "nor."
So sounds like "soar." Etc..
I came here to say this. There you gor
Exactly what I wanted to say.
my american friends called me out on this while we were in a call
I think the same!! I thought I was losing my mind or something like that or I was the only one who hear this intrusion r sound in Australian English.
I love this lesson of right pronunciation. I'm living here in Australia as immigrant since 2011. I want to learn more of the Australian accent. Thanks for your time sharing your video to us. GLO
It’s so hard to say “no” in broad Australian.
we just say nah yeah nah
yes is yeah nah yeah
Try making your mouth more wider
There is no general accent, because British, American and Australian are all standard.
He said "Know" in the video and it sounds similar to "no". Watch Rosè, her "no"es are really cool.
The best teacher! Obrigada!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for this. I've been wanting to learn this since i saw my first Austrailian TV show. So satisfying to finally know how to do this!

I’m an America ex-pat living in Sydney (for the past 4 years). Your videos are fantastic! You’re the boss of breaking down the mysterious specifics of the beautiful Aussie accent 🤓❤️
Imagine someone walking past him hearing him ORRRRRRRRRRRRR 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thanks for the great video. In fact I was one of the guys who requested to do Ozi “O” teaching. I think the sound is coming from back of the mouth/ throat rather than front and that’s the key to get it right.
Cheers mate
Brilliant, you really know how to teach. It’s a quality that not everyone has it👌🏽. I wish you were my teacher can you come to Adelaide?
Aussie English If you do, you and your fiancé can stay in our home (my wife n I) as long as you want. It would be our pleasure.

I KNEW I was hearing something special, like multiple vowels, all rolled up into that gorgeous Aussie O. Thank you for teaching us how to make that beautiful sound. 🥰

Wow..... You did find the roos and wallabies. Love these......
Proof positive that if you want the best teaching, go to the source. You’re better at explaining and teaching the dialect than any of the professional linguist’s videos I’ve seen. Awesome work my man
Aussie English Boston, another place known for our accents. It’s probably what got me into learning dialects in the first place.
This vlog is BEWDY, Pete! I learned so much about Australian wildlife, thanks mate! Please make more of these
I couldn’t love this video any more. You have a good lesson and you took us for exploration. It is a good way to help me remember vocabularies.Cause I know how can I use it.

Aussie English Nepal 🇳🇵
Aussie English same here, I enjoy watching your videos heaps.
I quite get used to "o" sound 'cause i have been in Melbourne for few years. But still would likecto practice English with your u-tube.
Aussie English i'm from Thailand. I've been to Melbourne about 20 years ago. So long time no hear the aussie sound. LoL
But it seemed to me that i would understand the Australian english better than American english.
Anyway, i keep trying practice my English and thank you for you videos. I miss Australia so much.
Excellent! Such a great video. I struggle to make this sound correctly, have to keep practising!
hahahaha
It's easy. Just start from a No and ad a U at the end. So you switf from No to NOoU. Do it slowly. Your jaw will move by itself
The Australian 'o' sound has always baffled me. This is the first time I've heard it broken down as a diphthong.
Dear Pete, your "o" 's sound not as difficult as I expected. For me, personally, it was quite easy to pronounce. It just needs to have more practice of repeatition for not to forget . 😊

This has to be my favorite diphthong. The overtones are super nice
Its so hard... but i hope amd ipray i will adopt the aussie accent!!
No one is good as u,when it comes to teaching Aussie english accent😉
As an American, I use this sound to distinguish Australian and British English, which are otherwise similar in many ways compared to American English.
Very true!
There's also the flap t, the short i and the "er" /"ar endings.
When pronounced straight after a “r” such as found in “product”, does that “o” sound fallow the pattern “O-o” sound? Cheers

Pete do you recommend an airbnb or a hotel in Melbourne?
Execelenf video, you're so good thanks for tour help
I like that we’re “traveling” to learn how to say the Aussie ‘o’! 😄👍🏻
I hear it more as ahh-oh-uu with the uu very deep and resonant.
Thank you
Aussie English what's mean this word (nada)
everyone repeating “o” with you, both as practice and as they realize theyre doing it
Thanks :)
Aussie English yes it will still take some more practice but yes
Aussie English thanks
Have you seen the Great Barrier Reef ?
Great video.
Nice video! So is it a bit like an English O? I’m not talking about RP but more of a general southern English accent. Am I right?
Oh goshh!! Why is this so hard🤧
The best accent !!! Aussie , Aussie !!!
😂😂😂 i think im having a locked JAW in pronouncing O sound 😂😂😂
Wah omg it's so hard, I repeated it again again. Can I ask? If I pronounce it I "nor" is it correct? "Knor(know)" "gor(go)" please send help---
1:43
How about a video for the *th* sound?
This is the hardest thing for me 😭
Broo I sound like barking 😂😂 i love it
You're from Melbourne aren't you mate? Never heard anyone say "blog" the way you did anywhere else in the country.
In Dutch we have a sound "ui"(which also means onion) which is pronounced a little like aoui, I can't do the australian "o" without saying ui :D
Legend!
Hello everyone. This sound is similar to the British English.
"The dingo ate yo baby" is my favorite phrase to practice 😜
Hit like if you agree!
When I type 'no' pretending to be Australian I type 'nö' or 'norrrrr' depending on how obnoxious I want to sound. Also found a Redback in the post box and looked em up and they're actually a little less dangerous than black widows which we have back home.
Oh nooo. I love sooo much.
Damn it was my question and u made a vdo for it
What a bloke thx
Btw its the diphthong of (o: to u) rather than (schwa to U)
I love the Aussie O.... it sounds very sexy 🤩
The Aussi ‚O‘ is just so difficult to pronounce.. I’ve never managed make it.
Hello from Germany 👋
That Aussie O sounds almost like oü
I like Coiwca-coiwla soiwda
I've been trying to do the British "o" for a while but then one day I saw an Australian girl's video and later on she said "so". And I was surprised because that day I've noticed that she was doing the 'o' differently, but I found out that I wanted to talk British English with Australian "o"s!!
That exactly how I sound .... Native speakers often tell it to me ....
That's weird, can't say I've ever heard someone (in Tassie) refer to it as a field, rather than paddock! Personally, I'd call it a field!
I’m still not able to say it any other tips plz?
I am from Bolivia and the only one in my family who speaks english. I wish I could be in Australia to speak the whole time in english!!!!
Aussie English thanks for the ánimo (I don't know the word in english)!!! I will do it!!! And thanks for your videos!!!
We have that sound in our native language.😅 it’s really easy for me
At the end of this video: "I would love to knowr what you guys think so gor down to the comments...” There’s that soft R after the Aussie O.
Reckon Yanks have a blue with "stir" and "her". They wanna go up at the end like in BE, when it really sounds like you spoke the first sound, and suddenly had to push something.
Congratulations on this video. He looked great. I really enjoyed seeing the Kangaroos. You tried hard and you did it. Thanks.
Cleorrr
You all start it right. Then want to throw in the extra letters. "NOeeerr"
Is this “o” similar to the one in “hope”? Their IPA symbols are different I guess
but some Aussies add o in the end oh right "righty" "right oh" etc.
It’s funny watching this as an Aussie- you don’t realise how complex it is- 😂
Yanks reckon our accents are impossible, but bugger me if you've ever tried a Southern American accent, like Tennessee. I can't bloody understand them. "Dog" is like "dowog" Tell the "dowog" to get "owoff".
*So, how do you feel about this 'o' sound?*
My mouth: A new sentation, A NEW SENSATION!
Cheers from Argentina!... (I love INXS 🎸😆)
it’s the sound tim allen makes on home improvement but faster
