@ Using algorithms that make the pixel count and scale the same as 1440p. Regardless of whether or not a game is rendered at 960p (DLSS Quality scaler at 1440p), the pixel count from the initial resolution will fit into a 1440p screen because of the amount of actual pixels displayed. For example, you have a grid of 16:9 squares (to represent a typical monitor aspect ratio). Now put inside of the grid another smaller grid of 12.7:5.7. You may notice if you draw it out, that the intersecting lines between each square don’t meet each other. This is essentially what happens to a 4K (or any other resolution) display while presenting a 1440p image (or any resolution that doesn’t fit into a direct scaling proportion between each pixel grid. The end result if you use this “resolution” on an actual display becomes blurry as it smushes and blends these pixels together into something that fits on its pixel grid). Now, using DLSS, we can interpret what those missing 3.3 squares would look like had they have been rendered natively. It’s shoddy, sometimes doesn’t work too well, but now we have an approximation of what those pixels looks like. So now we have our 16:9 grid filled up with another 16:9 grid. That is essentially native resolution and resolution scaling in pixels. I’m sorry if it isn’t the best explanation, but there are other documentation on the internet that may explain it better than I can - with images.
It's ironic and kind of tragic that consoles are marketed primarily for couch gaming on big TVs. They clearly shine better on 1440p monitors at a desk. It's what their hardware is rated for, 4k is just asking too much of such modest hardware. It's a shame because consoles are so much more convenient for gaming on a big TV, but they don't really have the hardware to do it smoothly.
27 inch and the 4k packed into the prefect screen size makes the pixels look none existent it’s so crispy I feel like a 32inch 4k would be way to much for a ps5 pro trust me when I say my 27inch 4k screen looks amazing
Man DF really living rent free in your head 😂. Who tf looking to play console on a small monitor, sure people do it but thats a very small percentage, very small. Consoles are sold and designed to play on a big screen high end tv from the couch. Please froggy stop pushing so hard man. You love the ps5 pro, great. Lets move on now.
People who enjoy good response times, already have a PC, or want to play competitively. Size is also irrelevant when you're sitting much closer to the screen.
This is not good advice. 32" 1440p displays look terrible. Not enough pixel density when you're sitting that close. The whole point of the PS5 Pro is to have better upscaling to utilize the higher pixel count. Downsampling just gives a better AA effect but it can't resolve more detail because you won't magically gain more pixels.
Pretty sure OLED monitors are under $500 now, also a heads up for gamers that Walmart has prebuilt PCs with 7900gre/Ryzen 7700 for $1200 which is pretty dang good for a prebuilt, typically we see too many 4060 prebuilts
That's absolutely horrendous, even for a pre-built. Would seriously avoid PC gaming if you aren't going to keep up with the market and aren't full of cash.
If anyone out there has $700 bucks to spend and you already play your base Ps5 on a 1440p monitor, I'd personally consider buying an OLED monitor over the PS5 pro. But that's just me, I'm a huge HDR nerd.
The PS5 and PS5 Pro always outputs at 4K Resolution, the games almost never hit that target perfectly, however it will still look sharper on 4K setting on the console setting. Buy a 4K panel so that you can enjoy movie streaming at 4K HDR aswell, if you buy a 1440p monitor you will be limited to 1080p SDR streaming 🤣 Bloodborne upscales to you panels resolution on the Pro model, if you have 1440p then it only upscales from 1080p to 1440p, when you play at 4K the difference is twice as big.

@frogboyx1Gaming it does, otherwise why are you looking for ways to try and make it look better via a 1440p monitor. Df highlighting the facts on how games perform isn't a negative thing.
@agentcooki technically I wasn't looking for ways to make it look better. I simply bought a 1440p monitor for my Xbox Series S a few years ago and just happened to try my Series X and PS5 on it and was surprised at how amazing everything looked compared to how it looked on my 4k OLED. Digital Foundry are just doing people a favour by showing how underwhelming the Pro is. For the average consumer, this is a waste of money. You are paying around double the base PS5 for less than 30% more performance and a beta AI upscaler that doesn't even look better than FSR a lot of the time. Sony is trying to be like Nvidia here by selling you an overpriced, bad value product.
What's hilarious is the million times I've heard people call them Sony shills but now that they are just objectively reporting on the facts the fanboys are big mad. The reality is that PSSR will improve. Ps5 Pro is a nice to have but certainly not necessary, just like the Ps4 Pro was.
@@Phil_529 The PS4 Pro made much more sense. It offered around double the performance of the base PS4 and it introduced checkerboard rendering, which when implemented well, looked quite good. @@Phil_529 You are right, it was $400, my bad. That in fact makes it look even worse for Sony.
