As someone who hasn’t delved much into Technic myself, I have to say I appreciate the value of what you get here. Using the all-important “volume of stuff” metric, this definitely looks like a good amount of stuff to get for $50.
I'm surprised they didn't make it in the same scale as the GT3, Chiron, etc. Considering the massive cult popularity of this car, I feel like they left a lot to be desired by making it this small. However, at this scale it is terrific!
*The LEGO Group:* Ah, so more stickers? More stickers it is, then! :D Actually now that I joke about it... That might look... Better? Or is that heresy?
@@MajatekYT not with stickers, with some alternate building method. Headlights should be behind the grill line, not ahead of it. There's a lot of better MOCs .
I'm not into Technic, but this is so cool! The only thing I might have done is attach some tiles to cover up a little bit of red and blue, but some of it definitely helps with the model.
Hello JANG, I love your videos, your tone, I love your details awareness, and your Lego history and past sets knowledge. Thank you very much for your hard work. I’d love to see the Technic Defender review, how come you never did it ? Keep up the good work 🙏
looking forward to those tires showing up on Bricklink, but I have to say, the whole set has a lot of useful (to me) pieces in the colours I need, so who knows, maybe I'll get the whole thing :)
It's refreshing to see a Lego Technic set for a review, but I was sure that this Jeep was much bigger, but hey, at least at that size, it's a lot more affordable, some of the other larger sets can be worth over 300$! Thanks for the review, Jang!
I really hope LEGO does more sets in this scale, like the McLaren. This and the new McLaren look quite nice. Personally prefer the McLaren, and I hope to get it soon, but this is quite a nice set too.
Something that could pretty easily get rid of those exposed pins on the side and roof are simple yellow tiles connected with pins, it might make the frame look a bit thick but I think it would increase the aesthetic
As a lifelong Jeep fan/driver, etc- I have to have this set- however.. I really wish they either tiled off the parts you mentioned about the red and blue technic pieces or made them yellow- major detail problem- hood clips- the hood needs 2 clips on either side of the hood, which is how it is held in place.. I’m only recently coming back to lego- but if I could find a way to even fake the look of cleaning up the sides and the hood clips- it would be less distracting and easier to focus on the actual build.. I like the winch, and unfortunately, they got the turning radius spot on lmao. The bigger the tires, the worse the turning radius. So, as I laugh typing this- they managed to get that spot on lol. Thanks for the review!
I just realized - the US price you list is without tax, while the EU and UK prices you list are with tax! No wonder it's always cheaper in the US - it's actually not.
It's a Jeep thing because they tend to break down all the time, and yet we Jeep drivers love them... and hate them, but love them... while we hate them... yeah it's a Jeep thing, "you couldn't understand" 😅
As a Jeep owner and enthusiast, I was hoping Lego would would make an official set. I REALLY want to pick this up, I’m going to try and make a recolor of it to match my jeep, this is too dang cool!
I don't have any technic sets but I think if i did get one this would be one of the more likely ones. Partly because of the suspension as I could display it on a rocky built stand
I'd like it more if it was modeled after the YJ instead of the JL, but this thing is still awesome. I got the Mustang today, next is this, then the McLaren.
@@oscarmancio2350 for $50 for suspension, steering, winch, and the look I really like it. I bought the set because of the suspension mostly and I'm not disappointed. Plus there are modifications to where you can fit a drive train and working technic engine in it so idk why that person is complaining aswell. Like I said though $50 for a Jeep branded vehicle made by lego, I honestly don't see how lego is actually making much money from this at all.
I love this set and am looking forward to get one or two. As a current Rubicon owner, I also would make the same changes if I had unlimited wishes. Jang, do you think the top carrier could be removed and the door surround? I think I'll try that for a more open-air, half door look.
Perhaps if the biggest Lego YT channel was informing people where (Ali) they can get pins in sober colors, it'd motivate Lego to switch all of them to grey's.
That's a pretty cool technic set. Of course I'd prefer a Toyota FJ-40 but it's Lego and can be modded. Still hoping for a Cantina review from you Jang but don't think it will happen.
Can't review something that went out of stock as soon as it was released and has never been restocked :( I've been checking like every day with a browser tab that stays perpetually open to the product page.
Is there a reason Lego wouldn't just use black pins rather than all the blue pins? So often I see exposed pins in sets where it would have been much less noticeable if they had used black pins instead of blue. Is there some kind of difference between the black and blue pins I don't know about?
I dont really know of a good solution for the color of the technic connections other than printing them in white/black/grey and all the primary colors.
I am a Huge Jeep Wrangler Fan but I will not be picking up this set. I have many issues. One its Yellow, never liked Yellow jeeps, Two the front head lights are so out of scale for the grill. Three the over all design looks odd. Thanks For the Review thought Jang!
So, for comparison, I'll list 50EUR Lego sets from resent years: 42079 Heavy Duty Forklift 42062 Container Yard 42063 BMW R 1200 GS Adventure 42049 Mine Loader [40Eur RRP] 42037 Formula Off-Roader 42040 Fire Plane 42028 Bulldozer [40EUR RRP] Looking at those sets and their functions, you can make the argument, that this is a rather boring set, with not that many features (I don't consider opening doors a feature on a technic set). Especially considering, that more than half of the current technic sets are cars like this, with not that many actual functions (pretty much just steering, sometimes suspension, and engine connected to the drivetrain) I kinda see this model uneccessary. Maybe in the Creator-Line in a better looking version with more details. As a huge LEGO Technic Fan, I've moved on to other brands like CaDa and MouldKing, for a number of reasons, one of which being the uninspired and somtimes just plain bad Technic-models that currently come out. That's been suggested a number of times, but I'm very resistant because simple rankings appear completely definitive and lack context, encouraging many viewers to compare products and prematurely conclude the ones with the superior summary numbers are "better" overall and those with lower numbers should be ignored completely. I'm too much a fan of nuance to feed that phenomenon.
Nice and well ballanced video/review. I personally would ask for a hand-of-god- function for the winch, rather than a motor, considering, that it is a 9+ set, and obviously designed for playing with it after the build. Unfortunately, here in Germany, the community has become partly very offending and a lot of people can't accept the personal opinion of others. Especially Technic sets are criticised in a way and manner, which is objectively very rude and respectless. I joined this channel a long time ago and I appreciate, the way how you look onto the products and how you consider all aspects of it. Keep on in this way. 👍
