- Vote counting is underway in the Solomon Islands - in an election that could decide the fate of the South Pacific nation's ties with China.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has pledged to bring the country closer to Beijing.
His opponents say the growing Chinese influence needs to be reconsidered.
But this issue is not the main concern of most voters.

This is a good thing imo. If you look at what China's done for Africa, and what Africa owes to them, and compare that to the US... It's clear that the latter is far too expIoitative. Of course, nothing is set in stone, so we'll have to see what happens.

As a Solomon Islander, I would say that China is far better than Taiwan in comparison to development and aid support. Stop interfering to our own affairs. We have the wisdom require to make decisions that will benefit our country. Thank you.

If based on Africa 's progress, it's a good option to partner China in economy developments. With us influence in the region, there's definitely jealousy from them.
