I was almost this bad meeting Armin Shimmerman while at DragonCon. I just wasn't ready. I think I drooled a little. Drooling fan-boy. Yep. but at least I got to thank him for entertaining me with one of my favorite characters.
The line "more fish for Kunta" was improvised by LeVar Burton. Dan Harmon said he was surprised by Burton's comfort with the word since the show runner remembered Kunta being used as a racist slur in his school days. Of course, to LeVar himself, the name held no stigma.
The original 'Roots' mini-series was one of the most heralded TV events of the 70's. Anyone would be proud to be associated with it, most especially its young star.
I am age 70 this year. I did not get to have this. Regardless, I lived a life as an educator. I can only cry when I think about this clip and when I watch this clip. It is a brilliant bit of scripting and storytelling that reaches deep into the hearts and souls of people who grew up with LeVar Burton. Even people who did not grow up with LB can be reached; especially when their lives have been about education and being educators in transitional times.
This actually brings up an interesting point, why didn't Pierce get Jeff's dad to come. I know the real life reason was that Dan Harmon was waiting on Bill Murray but it seems like Pierce could have gotten him to show up if he wanted him to.
I believe it's a lot easier for Pierce to convince Levar to come visit a fan in the hospital (especially if Pierce was paying a lot of money) than it would have been for him to find and convince a stranger to visit his estranged son.
@@josh7827 It might be easier, but considering what Pierce was willing to do just to get revenge, it's really surprising that he didn't bribe the guy or something.
@@henrypeters5291 I hear you, it could have happened. I'm just saying Levar being there, doesn't necessarily mean Pierce could have found and coerced Jeff's real father to show.

I would... make a scene. Gushing about how much I loved Reading Rainbow and how this special program inspired and supported my love of reading when I was a little girl.
Those eyes would be my exact reaction 🤣 Mr. Burton has been soothing me to sleep for decades. Thank God for this angel of man. 😇 He's also why I love to read and write. 🤍
Ok. Community movie idea. Gilbert is getting the gang back together because Pierce wrote in his will that he has to look out for LeVar Burton. And no one has seen him in months.
I love how literally everyone can relate to the feeling of shame after looking stupid in the moment, but hopefully never to this extreme so it also makes us all feel better about ourselves ❤. Absolute brilliance.
One thing that bothers me with this scene, describing his time on Reading Rainbow, he looks to be describing his time on Star Trek. Physically motioning the visor he wore on star trek.
I don't ever want to meet Donald Glover. I just want a picture. I can't disappoint a picture.
I want to meet him but I would be like this
More fish for Kunta
Set phasers to "love me"!
I met Donald Glover after a Childish Gambino show and let me tell you…it went exactly like this lol
Can't picture Donald glover..
That cafeteria meltdown scene is a great example of a perfectly cut scream.
no the more perfect cut scrram would be abed's during daylight saving
@@ericbudiono7451Both. Both are good.
The way Troy’s eyes grow so big when he sees LeVar Burton is amazing
Great acting on Donald's part
Would be my reaction to meeting Donald Glover
This is exactly how I'd act if I met LeVar Burton
Yes
This is how I'd act if I met any of the community cast members
I met the guy that play Q. Similar reaction

That actually makes Britta’s line of owing money to Kunta even funnier.
Also, he played Kunta Kinte role in 1988's Roots: the Gift...
He played the role of Kunta Kinte, that's probably what he was referencing here

When Troy screams in agony "I hate you so much!" And when he sings the Reading Rainbow song on the floor im just dead lol. This show was so amazing
"YOU CANT DISSAPONIT A PICTURE"
true words
yep because of levar!
Troy is all of us when we found out Levar didn't get the Jeopardy gig.
Definitely!!! That is still pissing me off. LaVar Burton would be the perfect host.
If they were going to do a pair, I would rather it have been LeVar and Ken Jennings.
He even used a question about Community
Troy recoils in horror at the situation thrust upon him. He's not ready for this, and he never will be. Damn you to hell Pierce.
Never?
@@wvu05 never. If only there was a way to duplicate his DNA

And like that, Community has become not just my favorite show but the greatest show of all time.
Pshhhh, Sopranos
One of my top favorite moments that I share with people to watch Community
Donald Glover should have gotten his first Emmy for that breakdown scene alone
My exact reaction if I ever meet Troy and Abed in real life. 😂🤣
I think I’d me a little more chill if it was Danny Pudi but Donald Glover, boy it would look like I’m having a seizure

Donald Glover is a comedy god
I met Eminem in a hotel lobby once. He seemed mildly amused when I told him that I was a huge fan of his music but never paid for any of it.
Amongst my fav moments on the show!!

This is very relatable because I would do the same thing if I met any celebrity I liked

Funniest and most relatable freak out ever.
The funniest line in this episode is when Britta says "Imagine writing a bounced check to Kunta Kinte?"

Pierce didn't need to, Britta told Levar Troy loves him later in the episode right before he called her irresponsible with money.
