It is strange. In the USA the mall has been declared dead and extinct since about 30 years now and in Germany people are still building new ones, or at least they were 4 years ago.
In my opinion... In the USA, you have to drive fairly more to go to a mall when you can just order stuff online. In Europe, cities are more compact, so the mall is either in the town or just outside the town for more space, making it much more convenient to go. Having lived in both, I think malls are treated as social places in Europe more compared to the US. I wonder what it takes to revive the popularity of malls in general
