- The HorsePower guys finish up Muscle Car Rick Bacon's '98 Chevy Blazer with several modifications to make way for a used, but potent, LS-1 engine. After changes to the cooling system, wiring and accessory drive. Plus a new exhaust, the fearsome 4 x 4 is ready for a dyno run! The numbers make the work worthwhile.
Part 1: Dropping A Re-Purposed LS In A Chevy Blazer
• Dropping A Re-Purposed...
I'm retired military I have a 1999 Chevy Blazer 4×4 4.3 LS and it's rusty I bought it for 1500 I have a vision of doing the same thing y'all are doing here I want to restore my truck and make it very unique
I just bought a 2002 blazer for 2000$. I like it a lot but I'm going to leave the 4.3 v6 . Saves gas and gets what I need done. Figure that's a lot of work to do just 2 cylinders.
You can actually get better fuel mileage with a LS
Rick told me after he left Muscle Car Tv that when he moved, on the freeway it got right about 22mpg cruising at around 80mph, not bad for a v8 4x4.
Can Scott come back for more episodes? He adds life to the show
I upgraded my alt from 85 amp to 145 (Ad-244 tahoe lines up) 1 cell bigger battery And welding cable for wiring The rear has no seats ..its a bed platform for camping ..Love my 05' blazer
I did this swap in 3 days running and driving . If you do your research it’s really not that hard . Hardest part was exhaust because the headers I bought didn’t fit . Modified stock manifolds . Also i do have a rc 2.5 lift which gives you a bit of diff to oil pan clearance .
I love how these old videos go through hell to swap a 4x4 blazer to ls cause it’s not hard they make the swap kit dumb asses
Wonder if the oil filter was still easily accessible, or if it could/should have been mounted remotely?
ANDY LOOKED LIKE HE WAS BUTCHERING THAT TRANSMISSION LOL. I LEARNED FROM THE BEST, PRESISION TRANSMISSIONS.
All sounds great unless of course, you live in California where none of this is remotely legal.
aaaaaaaand that's why I am going with a 350 Vortec in my 2WD jimmy.......yup LS is alot better but its a PITA to bolt in.
I'm thinking about goin 350 Vortec in my 4x4. Heard it's just drops in.
Yep, it's a different exhaust manifold, PCM reprogram and different motor mounts. The 350 is the easiest swap
So cut up the oil pan and motor mounts and the manifolds instead of a body lift... I'd go with a body lift and Camaro stock 20s.
Would like to do this to my 96 4x4 sonoma ext. cab.
What accessory drive kit did they use, part number-wise?
Corvette. Holley has Corvette accessory brackets that you can use based on your crank. They have high, mid, and low mount accessories depending on what you have room for
I want a magnum TVS 2650 on my 2014 Silverado L86
That tracker is pretty cool honestly
I appreciate the work you did and all your install parts in your truck looks very good but your comment towards a minority is very upsetting, and you posted it without bleeping out your crude racial comments.
Would love to get a late 70s skyhawk or starfire, monza . And drop a ls into it
VATS sux
What do y'all do with these vehicles when you're done with them?
I got a small block Chevy in my S10 thinking about LS it just don't know wen yet
313 Detroit What
Wasn't Scott the dude who built a lot of s10 LS swaps? I use to be in the ls scene long ago. I think he lives in Tennessee if that's him
It's him
@@DaInfamous0ne yeah I thought it was
I got a small block Chevy in my S10 thinking about LS it just don't know wen yet
its a royal PITA
We like Scott. Keep him, so when you’re in S10 trouble, you can say “Beam me up Scotty”! Lol!😅🤣🥲 When I did my S10/LS2 conversion, back in ‘08, I actually used Current Performance too. However, his(Current Perf.)fan relays never worked correctly. Had to get a stand-alone unit from NY that has two(2) fan speeds. It was the missing link.
That's the beautiful est lil o truck there !
Do y’all do that for other people?
I wonder where this truck is.
Lol Mike is funny as fuck
not a good place for the computer on recovery tank... one crack and its all over...
Buddy that’s where the stock ecm sits. Calm down
@@scottc4433 well guess u never learned bout water and electricity.... they dont mix
@@maxxmich ok you call gm and ask them why they mount ecu’s outside . I’m not trying to be mean your just wrong dude
Just do a 350 swap. It's much easier and the 350 is a better motor in regards to durability, longevity, and simplicity
Nah. The spider injectors on the drop in Vortec 350s are hell
@@DaInfamous0ne That's when you put on the marine intake. 60lbs stainless injectors and no EGR. Makes significantly more HP
Wrong and wrong
@@scottc4433 My neighbor did that to his and it's much better
Great job guys
I know its a hard job. Its a real hard job to do this swap. They did make this harder than it needed to be though. If you are gonna do this, ask yourself a couple of questions first.
1) Do you want to take the time it needs to do it? You need at least 3 to 4 weeks, even if you have all the parts.
2) Are you prepared and have all the tools you need to do A LOT of custom Fab work? There is alot involved in massaging and making things fit without rigging things for sake of expediency.
3) Are you doing a stock replacement or just mild mods? This is where the project usually falls apart. Unrealistic expectations.
I need help !!! I'm disabled and I blew a head gasket on my S-10 and Don't have the money to fix it !!!!
@James Dash I'm gonna go out on a limb here and try to help you, not sure what I can do but feel free to ask me anything
Not sure what you can do but I'm open for ideas.
@@jamesdash1906 I live in Maryland, not sure where you are located but I would gladly come to you and repair it for free if that's what it took as long as it's within a few hundred mile radius of where I live.
Another solution is to go online and purchase moroso block sealer and dump it in your cooling system. This may be less effective but I would say 75-80 percent of vehicles I've used it on haven't had a problem since.
@@jamesdash1906 I have a sibling who is disabled, I try to help others if I can.
@@Somd301 sorry but I'm in Houston Texas.Thanks
those blazers were not ment for a ls swap in the first place
a tracker with a corvette engine and Dodge stripes.
Those are grand sport Corvette stripes. Look up c4 Corvette grand sport
use a la engine out of a 4wd truck
.splved
Nice build & looking good! but Copper coated aluminum? no thanks.. Haven't we learn anything about Aluminum and drawing a ton of amps through it?
I cringed when the air saw was aimed at his nuts.
Would rather boost the stock 4.3. Looks clean in the end though.
I wonder if you could put a 3.8l from a Bonneville ssei?
@@Boycott_Wendysthere's been a few people to swap a 3800 into a S10 I think they used a 2.2 truck since they share a 60 degree bell housing and I think the same motor mounts.
@@Boycott_Wendysits very possible. The 3800 is also in the v6 catfish. Both the fwd and rwd are the same block. The supercharged one is the same block as well, just different internals and lower intake manifold. If you want a 3800 use the one off the camaro. You can run it NA or with light boost. If you want more boost with a turbo, build the 3800 with a camaro NA intake set up. For a blower set up, use the fwd top end (L67). Theres more info on forums about this. Its a good platform
