@aewd1980 Coburn didn't care too much about the location Lee wanted to use for Flute, and he eventually backed out of the production. Up until when Coburn died, he always said nice things about Lee, but the truth is they had a bit of a falling out. Lee had even bigger idea's, and wanted to turn his Silent Flute concept into even more of a fantasy type martial arts film, thus the "Game of Death" script soon being written. It actually had a number of different titles, but he settled on Game....
It always amaze me how people say this was a bad martial arts film, and the fights was rubbish. The film is not about martials art, and it was only one fight in it, the only fight that matter, against ilusion. How one fight against that, count less.
@aewd1980 - also, i heard that bruce lee was going to play 5 different characters and james coburn was going to be the leading man. the idea being that bruce would guide james coburn through various stages of the film or something or other.
Any supporting role would have been OK for Bruce Lee or James Coburn, but neither had the acting subtleties required to play the mysterious main character in this exquisite 'Silent Flute ' movie. -
@itsadeadmansparty - lol, o.k, well you seem to have more of an idea of how it works than i do. i don't dislike the silent flute as such but i reckon that if bruce lee, james coburn and stirling silliphant had made their version of the silent flute back in 1969, i reckon that it would have been something special mainly due to bruce lee himself being involved. sadly, all we have are a small number of photographs of bruce and the others doing location scouting.
I disagree. It would have been just another 'Enter the Dragon' Bruce Lee 'Chop Suey ' Movie. None of his (or James Coburn's) movies show any of the deeper wisdom or beauty that 'The Silent Flute' has.
@StreetLethalRacing - yes, i read that lee and coburn argued a bit whilst location scouting. for bruce lee, the silent flute was his only chance at the time to succeed. i reckon his version of the film would have been far better.
you seen like someone who might know this. Could Davids flute be a modified Bawu Flute, or is it nameless cause its custom made? Also, is there a name to the music he plays?
I always thought of it as two people getting married. I suppose you are correct though. Saw this as as a kid in the eighties and feminism was ramping up in full swing with divorce being super common.
@itsadeadmansparty - well i wouldn't know about how hard the monks train every day but i reckon that good old bruce would give it his all but he did abuse himself as well i heard. anyway, about the silent flute movie, i didn't really like the somewhat mythical approach to the martial arts and the plot to me, does not make any sense. all these characters that turn up for little or no reason. the fight scenes aren't that good either. i was quite under-whelmed by them.
@itsadeadmansparty - you must have been watching a different film to the one i'm talking about. this load of rubbish is nothing but an insult to bruce lee's name. as for his death, i think people can say allsorts can't they? rumours and gossip can be dangerous things. i personally consider that bruce lee worked himself to an early grave and abused his body by stretching it and himself to breaking point.
i don't understand how this rubbish came to be made. it is nothing like the film that bruce lee was going to make back in 1969 or 1970. he would have made something original and in keeping with martial arts and chinese culture.
Great inspirational movie! Great scenes, and an unforgettable FLUTE song!
@mafurock33 david carradine played and made his own flutes. he even made the flute for the kill bill movies
Love this movie
This Cult Classic brings back memories. Who is here in 2019?

ALL MY WISDOM STARTED HERE.😊
WONDERFUL 🙏
I wished David Carradine had made a whole album of his silent flute. All you hear is HIS flute. No other instruments!!!

@itsadeadmansparty - that's alright, i enjoyed our little discussion. take care sport.

I think Jeff Cooper's character (Cord) should have been a centaur. This would have added intrigue to the role.
That would be cool.

I saw an interview with David where he said he'd made the flute(s) himself.
give a man an apple he will eat.Give him the skills and knowledge of how to eat the apple he will live longer

the riddle about tie 2 birds together means he doesnt want cord around him,lol

aka: the skin flute
I wonder who was actually playing the flute..
what makes you think he wasn't playing it himself? he was student of music in his school years
i met Carradine once.....unfortunately he was quite a arrogant ass. Never meet your heroes.....even if if he is a bad sub for Bruce Lee
El topo ripoff

Watch it again in twenty years ! 🙂
