I have the GP76 Leopard with 11800h CPU/3070 GPU. One of the very cool things about it is that you can go into the bios and actually change the power limits for the CPU and GPU, so you can set the CPU max wattage, for example, to 45 watts. This is perfect for gaming, as the GPU will be able to run at max speed all day long, and the CPU will still be easily hitting 4.2-4.3GHz, but with temps remaining below 80 degrees during continuous gaming sessions. I also undervolted the CPU in the bios, but my machine can only undervolt by -50 and remain absolutely stable under all loads, whereas many are saying they can do -70 or even -80. I suspect at least some of these users haven't actually got completely stable CPU operation under all load conditions, however. I would say that if you want maximum gaming performance with serious cooling in a laptop, and you don't really care about LEDs everywhere nor using a laptop on battery very often, then MSI's-GP series is offering an outstanding price/performance value proposition.
Hello anubis44, I also have the gp76 but I have a huge problem that it heats up a lot (above 90 degrees or 95-100 degrees when I put it in cooler boost) otherwise it can easily reach 100 degrees, the pc is burning I can't even touch it. I am very worried and I am afraid to go into the BIOS and make a mistake. Can you explain me how you do to stay under 80 degrees, you will do me a huge favor and it would be nice of you.
@@ziineh4723hi, go into bios and reduce the gpu and cpu power limit by 10w each. If that doesn't help you can also look up a guide on how to undervolt it

Cheers mate! Personally it's hard to justify Aorus for me without MUX switch and being limited to 1080p (at least on the 17", not sure if 15" is the same haven't had it yet. Honestly I'd probably go for Aftershock Vapor series, them and Metabox are generally better value compared to the big brands, but Gigabyte does have some pretty attractive sales here. Hi Jarrod. I have been looking at this model. Does the lack of adaptive sync matter on this. Legion 5 has it or is this one worth it for the full time full power graphics? Just wondering if adaptive sync would help on a 1440p panel where you're not always going to be hitting high frame rates. What's you're View Jarrod?
Hi. Nice review ! I have a question. Is this msi whith this specifications able to do 3d modeling fluently or not? Also, im willing to keep it for about 5 years or more. So what do you think, is it capable or not?
I have the Vector GP66 HX 12UG model which uses the 12800HX CPU, and according to MSIs spec sheet, the rear USB-C supports Thunderbolt4. I wonder if it will support charging too, but I'm scared to plug in a USB-C charger. It also says it supports USBC-PD. Edit: No I mixed it up. It says DP, not PD.
I have the version with the RTX3080 and just one thing bothers me...While playing Cyberpunk 2077 or other modern games with higher graphics the CPU goes up to 94° Celsius (according to the MSI Center - Core Temp tells me that some cores are short time even on 100°). It stucks on this temperature and whatever I try, it won't go lower. It set both internal fans with FN+F8 on 6000 RPM and even used the IETS GT500 which is considered to be the best cooling-pad - it still keeps on those 94°. The most topics on reddit told me that this is normal and the i7-12700H is configured to work on those high temperatures. In some posts they tell me that it might be a hardware-issue and other posts tell me to change the cooling paste. Before the MSI I had a Schenker XMG Ultra 17 which was more like a Desktop-Notebook. The CPU never got higher than 90° and that even with expired cooling-paste (the GPU broke and I checked what happened). Is this really normal or should I send it back. It is about 1 month old and I still have the warranty.
I think it could have been better, if they didn't basically waste money on some stuff, like 2.5g ethernet and per key rgb, when most people buying mid range laptops won't have a 2.5gb switch, or I'm not completely sure, but also care for per key rgb. They could have used the money for better trackpad and hinge, and add charging to the usb-c. If lucky, maybe a second usb c as well. It matters per person, but that seems a better full package. Still, beastly performance and excellent screen so I guess I'm just nitpicking.
It's quite impressive how the GP66 beats the legion 5i pro in games even with slower memory. It's enough proof that games at 1440p rely a lot more on GPU performance than CPU performance. The 2 biggest drawbacks of the GP66 I can think of are the lack of IO options and the screen brightness (Although I personally don't need that much IO). Everything else is user upgradeable including the SSD and RAM, so by upgrading it you can bring the performance up to the level of the GE66. The camera is alright. I am someone who never uses the touchpad so that's not an issue. In my region (China) the price is significantly lower than the GE66 (about $1000 difference) and it's about $600 cheaper than the legion 5i pro (price difference doesn't include the costs for manually upgrading the SSD and RAM).
I kinda disagree with you. GP66 with 11gen i7 CPU but a "stronger" RTX380 performs worse then GP66 with 12 gen i7 CPU and RTX370Ti. I think rtx380 is bottlenecked by anything less then i9 CPU. Both models have 195W total output btw. And CPU matters in newer games that utilize more CPU cores. What is confusing with mobile GPUs is twp's, you can have same GPU set to different wattage and this performing drastically different. I hope GP66 will not get baked easily, and the fan noise is not super annoying.
@@D.2023 I mean, I don't know what you disagree with. I am comparing two laptops that have the same CPU, and you bring an example of a laptop with a last gen CPU. The improvement gain from 12th gen intel over 11th gen is significant. That is why I am comparing 2 laptops that have the same specs, but one focuses on maxing the CPU performance (legion 5i pro) while the other focuses on maxing the GPU (GP66) and we see that at 1440p the GPU offers more performance. Why would you use a CPU from last gen which is significantly worse than the current gen to make a comparison?
@@D.2023 And the RTX3080 isn't necessarily stronger than the RTX3070TI. Only difference is the VRam which only really matters at 4K gaming. I was talking about 1440P at which VRAM still doesn't play such a big part. 8GB is still plenty enough at that resolution

Hi. What is that black stuff that covers heat pipes and other elements on GE66? Is it to prevent heat from escaping the pipes and lead it out to the less insulated areas? Cheaper GP66 does not have that, the metal is exposed all the way. So maybe manually covering the pipes with similar insulation tape, and maybe applying some CPU heat-transfer paste on top of CPU can help with heat transfers? Or wise versa, maybe being unprotected those heat pipes can be more efficiently cooled by 3rd party cooling-pad (those with electric fans) underneath the laptop? Can it somehow be modded with other DIY materials to improve heat retention?

Was wondering if it is possible for you to review the Prometheus XVII. I know you did the Infinity M7 which is the same thing but it used a Ryzen and the new models in Eluktronics are using Intel 12th gen now. So I was kinda curious what the differences are now with the differences of processors.
right now the model with 3070ti and intel hx is on sale on best buy at $1800, which is pretty good. but personally i’d sacrifice some build quality and save 40% of your money while keeping 70% of the performance and 100% of the versatility (the sword with 12650h/3060 for $999, which thankfully has a white-over-black color scheme this year rather than rgb vomit).

The GP66 2021 and 2022 apparently share the same cooling system. Being the 2022 system rated for 150w (3070ti) GPU, this makes me assume that flashing my 2021 model (3080) GPU bios to 165w max hasn't been a bad thing at all. A bit hotter? Yes. A bit louder? Yes. More powerful and capable than the 130w limit? HELL YEAH!

11:40 i have a question, does setting power setting on balanced make cpu power limited? Like i can see its 35 watts on balanced and 45 on performance. Is it like undervolting cpu but keeping gpu at full power? I am asking because my cpu is always 10-15.c more hot than gpu.
Hello Jarrod.. Would you recommend to buy it? Or should i buy a 3070 version.. That is $700-1000 cheaper. So does it matter to get this one, considering performance is marginally better than 3070?
I wouldn't spend $700-1000 just to get Ti if that's the only difference. If it's last gen CPU it also won't affect gaming that much, so depends what you're doing with it.
Again I ask what is the range of the adaptive sync? The intel app tells you. Please. I don't know what I have done to piss you off but you don't answer my questions any more. I understand you are busy but this is so easy to add, takes mere seconds to add to the video when filming and something you USED to do! Please.
I don't measure it unless it actually gets quieter. There's too much movement needed in the setup to get the pad underneath to have the measurement tools in the same spot.
Most laptops don't have XMP so there's no point in me covering it really, but if it's available, might as well try it out. If it's a desktop, then absolutely use it.

I bought this laptop for 2k from bestbuy have had no problems and bought dec2022 but i mean its all about how you take care of your stuff also i play mw2 resident evil series warhammer wow diablo fortnite tekken and etc more and use for my store and studio also i have 4 macs in my studio so more for my store (collections) ive never disconnected and always run games on high and never have had problems
Would you consider this to be the best price to performance laptop in 2022. It really does seem very fast for the price.
thank you, Jarrod .. I just bought this laptop after watching this review multiple times .... same specs but my version has ddr5 ... it costs me 1700 $ (new).
my salutations from Morocco 🇲🇦
Glad I could help!
Hey Jarrod. Thanks for the vid. Would you take this over the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro then?
Is a video about Zephyrus G15 coming soon? I'm looking forward to that laptop
Waiting on ASUS, no specific ETA.
Can you explain me how you do to stay under 80 degrees, you will do me a huge favor and it would be nice of you.
hoping for an answer from you as soon as possible
@@ziineh4723hi, go into bios and reduce the gpu and cpu power limit by 10w each. If that doesn't help you can also look up a guide on how to undervolt it
Jarrod, when will the Legion 5 Pro (AMD) version be released? And please promise us that you will immediately make a review of it once you managed to get a hand on it 🥺
I'm seriously wanting to buy it
I'm waiting for my Tongfang chassis with 12900H/3070Ti and DDR5 to come in and if that gets anywhere close to this one in terms of frames, I'll be happy
I have this laptop except mine has an i7 12800hx, 64gb ddr5 and dual 1tb nvme drives. I have $2000 invested in the laptop and couldn't be happier.
Hey man I've been really enjoying your reviews, good so see a aussie on RUclips smashing out the videos.
I've been researching for a week now and have around 3 g to spend on a new machine. You've helped me narrow it down to this laptop or the aorus 15 xe 4 3070ti or possibly the 17 inch model because they are the same price at the moment.
I can't decide man what would you go for?
Cheers mate! Personally it's hard to justify Aorus for me without MUX switch and being limited to 1080p (at least on the 17", not sure if 15" is the same haven't had it yet. Honestly I'd probably go for Aftershock Vapor series, them and Metabox are generally better value compared to the big brands, but Gigabyte does have some pretty attractive sales here. Aftershock resell the tongfang chassis, so same as Eluktronics in the US or XMG in EU, if you do go there you can get $50 off with 'jarrodstech' code.
@@JarrodsTech thanks for your reply mate I'll check out those recommendations for sure. Keep doing what you do best 🤟🏻

@@JarrodsTech hey man do you know a alternative here in nz as I can’t see any of these in our tech stores? pls do a head to head comparison of this one with legion 5 pro..would help a lot
I have absolutely love my MSI Vector GP76 that I purchased from Microcenter!
Jarrod, at cpu only workload what was the temperature and if you unlock the power limit how many whats could this thing sustain?
9:00 lol I have this feature in arch. Use xrandr to set display to 60hz when on battery, while 144hz back when plugged by using udev rule.
Even the screen could be 1080p, I dont think 1440p is that worthy for that size
Type-C charging is a must-have feature for me so I would gladly sacrifice 2.5G Ethernet and per-key RGB to get it.
Agreed
Keeping the price same and switching 2.5gb ethernet, per key rgb lighting for type-c charging is a good deal
@@JotaFla I think there are 1080p options for it. Maybe not available yet but they are listed on website
It's not mid range in my country. Still bout as pricey as high end laptops. And non of MSI budget offerings comes close to that.
I would like to see Asus Strix G17 review (SCAR with less RGB and Ryzen CPU). I want see how it performs vs the intel version and if there are any more differences other than just less RGB.
I love how you can just go to the conculsion to see the answer
Just got one with the 11th gen i7 and 3080 (and 32 gigs of RAM) for 800 pounds!
One zephyrus G15 is out. Can you please compare M16 vs g14 vs g15?

"For Austrialians like me that live upside down in the southern Hemisphere." I LOL'd at that haha
Might buy this to have beside my PS5 and Series X on my LG C1. Be a great 1440p gaming PC!
Great video Jarrod tho
Please where are the reviews for the Asus Tuf gaming a15/f15 2022 models I really am confused on these models I can't decide between the Ryzen 6800h or the Intel 12700h.
Waiting on ASUS to send them.
Damn bro......are those really mid-range specs,I guess I'm poorer than I thought 😅
The GP series itself is midrange, not necessarily the specific specs I happened to get sent. There is also a 3060 configuration.
As always 🐐ed
Should I buy this or Legion 5i?
Hello jarrod (Sorry about my English is not good i know)😅 i literally seen every last video about this year . Every budget laptops has 1 or 2 problems screen or battery or thermal problems or build quality (you cant get everything in this category i understand that) Realy i cant choose plus my knowledge about this things is poor after all this time on videos I concluded on rog strix g15 but if you can I would like to hear your opinion
I just dont understand why they disable undervolting for the new 12th gen cards. Especially when the temps are going to get that hot. I was going to buy this laptop until i found this out. Great job nvidia
Was wondering if it is possible for you to review the Prometheus XVII. I know you did the Infinity M7 which is the same thing but it used a Ryzen and the new models in Eluktronics are using Intel 12th gen now. So I was kinda curious what the differences are now with the differences of processors.
How is this a mid range gaming laptop with those specs n price tag($2500)?
The GP series itself is midrange, not necessarily the specific specs I happened to get sent. There is also a 3060 configuration.
right now the model with 3070ti and intel hx is on sale on best buy at $1800, which is pretty good. but personally i’d sacrifice some build quality and save 40% of your money while keeping 70% of the performance and 100% of the versatility (the sword with 12650h/3060 for $999, which thankfully has a white-over-black color scheme this year rather than rgb vomit).
Why did it look like the bearings on the left fan were going with the GPU in the sponsor video? Doesn't lead to a lot of confidence! haha
this laptop has a 17" version (cheapest 17inch 3070ti where i live) what does everyone think??? Yay or Nay?

I'm laughing when I see ppl got mad when Jarrod calling the GP66 a mid-ranger.
It's on sale for 2299 in Canada... Not bad at all
With this laptop not having g sync is that a deal breaker? How much does that actually matter? I was shocked to learn that so figured I would ask.
I have been wondering about the same thing don't know if you have the answer for it yet
didn't u review last years GP66?.. why are u surprised it has per key RGB when it was the same last year?
This is the first time I've had a GP66.
Hey Jarrod will you make an XPS 13 plus review?
I have not yet seen an hp Omen 17 laptop.
Is this a good laptop for 4k video editing?
If compared with this laptop”AORUS 15 XE4-73TW”, which one do you think is better?
The GP66 2021 and 2022 apparently share the same cooling system. Being the 2022 system rated for 150w (3070ti) GPU, this makes me assume that flashing my 2021 model (3080) GPU bios to 165w max hasn't been a bad thing at all. A bit hotter? Yes. A bit louder? Yes. More powerful and capable than the 130w limit? HELL YEAH!
what did you flash it with?
What flash did you use for it bro ?
Another question please : Can I flash a 3080 VBIOS to a 3070 ? I want higher TGP for my GE66 140W 3070, read about a 150W 3070 VBIOS but couldn't find it
I got a used version of this model with a 3080 and i7 11Gen a week ago for 1.300€ (~1.400$) Had no time to test it yet but it should perform great. I am planing to use it for VR with my Meta Quest 2.

can you get your hands on a msi ge66 raider dragon shield with the 3060? curious to see how it compares
Hey Jarrod please make a video on MSI GL66
any chance for a tuf dash f15 2022 review? it doesn't have that terrible 4 core cpu now lol
Probably, once ASUS send it.

Please.
I never mentioned adaptive sync, but still mention freesync on AMD machines. I'll add checking for adaptive sync range to testing in future.
@@JarrodsTech Yeah that's what I meant, you used to say the freesync range. I really don't see a different but thank you for responding. Thank you.
Did you note what the fan noise was when using the Cooling Pad? This is kind of a deal breaker for me.
I don't measure it unless it actually gets quieter. There's too much movement needed in the setup to get the pad underneath to have the measurement tools in the same spot.
Hey Jarrod! Out of context question but do you recommend turning on XMP in BIOS after a RAM upgrade? If possible can you make a video about XMP?
Most laptops don't have XMP so there's no point in me covering it really, but if it's available, might as well try it out. If it's a desktop, then absolutely use it.
