  • on July 6th, 2022 a group of Chodpa's from the United States gathered in KTM, Nepal. On 7th of July 2022 they took the journey to face the fear and cut the ego. It is the right way to learn before teaching others, according to the practice of Chod from Machik Labdron.
Before teaching Dharma, specially Chod, as a Lama or Teacher, one must go alone into 100 haunted places including cemeteries.
Before even this one has to go for 7 to 10 days of Sacred retreat in a small group guided by an experience master to over come the fear, self-centered and ego.
Even before that one has to learn the value of Buddha and the awaken mind, Dharma the profound teaching and Sangha the selfless guide.
In this documentary we try to show how the chod-pa's do practice during the period of PhaDhampa, Machik Labdron and so forth Before 1959 in Tibet.
After 1959 Tibet was occupied by Communist and almost destroyed 90% of Dharma in Tibet. Few survived in neighboring countries including Mongol.
Even so since 1959 till 2023 many masters who did survived have passed away due to aging. Here we are trying to burn a fire from the knowledge left, before the authenticity of pure practice vanish into the thin air.
Genla has opened many centers for the Tibetans and Westerner to learn the Dharma. Phadampa Center in California. Shijay and Chod Center in New York. Colorado Shijay center in Colorado, Melong Yeshi in Russia and in Nepal as well as in India.

Yogi, my foot. Even a higher level of practioner also exist in Non-bhuddhist tradition including Islam.
What kind of Yogi Tradition is this, without a single glimpse of Bodhichitta and the Wisdom of Shunyata..
Chod means engaging in the practice to uproot all the root of negative emotions. One doesn't become a yogi by wearing this robes, The real Yogi lives in the monastery, who engage in practice to uproot the root of negative emotions for whole Life.
I take refuge in the Yogi, who stays in the monastery....
    These are hippies

Bodhicitta and wisdom of Shunyata is what is inspiring these Chodpas to follow the path.

Buddha did not overcome the mind in a monastery. Working with the mind in a place where there is sometimes fear is much more difficult than in a cozy monastery. The mental formations that trouble us arise in daily life and the outdoors at night can challenge us with a primal fear of the dark. Also in chöd you visualize offering your body as food that turns into nectar for dieties and all sentient beings, how is that not bodhichitta? Chöd is also traditionally done in burial grounds in Tibet. Doing it in a monastery, while I am sure is beneficial, does not include the fear of being more isolated in a scary or uncomfortable location. Much more intense when fear is present.
