I have been diving into Unlucky Morpheus discography for a few months (it's not easy to digest everything, they have an infinite number of albums and singles 🤣). Yesterday I had a pleasant surprise when I was listening to the album *"Parallelism γ"* and as soon as I heard the main riff in *"You Are Better Off Alive"* It immediately put a smile on my face because I'm a fan of Children of Bodom. Shiren always surprises me with the variety of bands he gets his inspiration from. For those who might not be familiar, UM's *"You Are Better Off Alive"* is pretty much a cover from *"You Are Better Off Dead"* by *Children of Bodom.*
Thanks so much for posting another banger album, this time relaxing jazz and rock fused into the most relaxing metal experience. I'm unironically sad by just how underrated your entire channel is, and yet you somehow keep having the motivation to find some of the best music imaginable, even if it's for such a small fan base. Thank you so much for what you do!
Not gonna lie, there was a time I was pretty sad my numbers weren't that high but now I know some of you, who are willing to listen to my uploads and sometimes I'm all excited thinking "these guys gonna love this" when I'm editing and stuff. Maybe we aren't a big group but the ones that are here are enjoying ourselves and that's all I could ask for. I need to thank you for writing this and youtube for not notifying me about this wholesome comment, I swear it gets worse everyday lmao
Ok wtf fusion jazz ??? You made me realise i kind of slept on them. Always knew them but never dug too deep. Should've though. I went hard on Undead corp and ICDD And though they had similar styles to unlucky morph. I would like to state how dumb i was for thinking that x) Anyways, nice vid as always. May your day be as awesome as demetori is.
This turned me in to an unlucky Morpheus fan in just 1 hour and 35 minutes. I really love how the songs towards the end got jazzier. As always, thanks for the upload! (List of favorite tracks for when I revisit. ;;>>) Pendulum of Rose Casket of Star Piropiroringunaito ●3● Throughout Heaven and Earth Rave On Romantic Nightmares Necro Funk (Probably my favorite at the moment^^) 16 Beat Legato Sunny
This time our favorites are almost totally different. I personally like more the power metal tracks (obviously I still like the jazzy ones, that's why I included them haha). Heaven and Earth & Romantic Nightmares are in my favorites though. Also you liked all the ones from Heavy Metal Be-bop (Rave On, Necro-Funk and 16 Beat) maybe you should check out the whole album, you are only missing like 3 tracks but still. Thanks for listening as always btw, it's always a pleasure to see someone discovering new songs and I like when you point out your favorites 👍
Man it has been a while since I've last listened to Unlucky Morpheus so a compilation like this is just perfect. Also I found another Demetori similarity: Between the Buried and Me - Alaska (intro) Demetori - Shanghai Alice of Meiji 17 (intro) Chord progressions are different but it still sounds kind of similar.
@@nvrmltice Hey I'm back again with another similarity I found: Protest the Hero - Spoils (1:38) Demetori - Dance of puNDarika (2:54) I know Demetori probably referenced only Dream Theater, but it still sounds similar. Also here's Demetori referencing themselves: Demetori - View of the River Styx (0:50) Demetori - Final Sorcery (ending riff)
@@insolitic hey brother, I need your opinion on something. I'm almost done editing the audios for Demetori's references part 6 but I was thinking if I should include the ones you have mentioned these months or let you do your own video since it was your research and these are a lot. Right now the video would be around 20 minutes so adding more will be a pain lol. If you decide to make your own video I'll include it in the References playlist and let everyone know throught the community tab; if not then I will of course credit you if I include them in part 6
@@nvrmltice Nah, I don't make videos (also I don't know how to edit). You can add them if you want I won't mind. I just listen to music and notice some similarities. Most of them are coincidences tho.
My man, you did it again. I had no idea they did fusion jazz. It's so good! I've had this on repeat all day. I recently got a soft spot for fusion jazz when I found Black Album 3 from Daisuke Kurosawa. You should check it out. But you probably know it already, as the j-metal emperor
You overestimate me, I didn't know about him but now that I'm listening to his stuff he might become my new favorite Daisuke if everything is as good as BA3
This time the track order is a bit different. From 01 to 13 are the power metal ones and from 14 to 22 it starts to get more jazzy to the point there aren't distortion guitars in the last 3 tracks. For similarities and stuff, Crow's Claw used the riff in 16:00 for their 3rd Eye arrange, 31:50 sounds like the second riff of Six Times Dead by Primal Fear, 21:05 sounds kinda like a mix between Evolution, Domiation and then Smoke and Mirrors (all of them by Symphony X) but in 6/4, Romantic Nightmares long solo is most likely inspired by R18 Nightmares by Steve Vai (sorry, I don't think I can write the real name) and Somewhere Out in Sky might be a reference to Somewhere Out in Space by Gamma Ray but the only musical similarity is that both Somewhere Out in Sky and Beyond the Blackhole (first track in Somewhere Out in Space) begin with 7/4 bars. It's also secret to no one that UM gets a lot of inspiration from Angra (see Rebirth, or Carry on Singing to the Sky) so I wouldn't be surprised if there are references here and there that I didn't catch. Hope you enjoy the traKcs and pics, and give Shiren all the love he deserves. Some of Unlucky Morpheus stuff is available on spotify btw
Maybe you can help me with this, the initial riff from "Rave On" ( 0:47:06 ) sounds very familiar to me, I'm pretty sure it's inspired by a famous song/guitarist but I can't tell exactly the name, do you know where the inspiration for this riff come from?
@@GaleonGuitar I'm sorry. I don't know for certain. I feel like I have heard similar riffs in classic rock and roll, could be Chuck, Elvis or maybe not haha. I have the feeling my mother would know
@@GaleonGuitar so far the closest I can think of is Good Golly Miss Molly by Little Richard. Not exactly the same riff but the progression is extremely similar
@@nvrmltice Thank you! I think that might be it indeed. 😆 Gonna sub to your channel by the way, loving the "best of" series as it helps me finding some artists I didn't know. Keep the good work!
it's not a typo, Fussion is when you take Fusion to the extreeeeeeeeme lol, already corrected, thanks man. I believe the only instrumental available right now is Amazement Park
