  • Prevent Belly Bulge on your 12 String Guitar... A simple way to support the Bridge and Soundboard of your guitar. I have disabled the comment section as quite a few was missing the point of this video... I am not suggesting that you Place your guitar in the case and just store it for months or years on end.... Place it back in the case temporarily when you are done playing to give the soundboard some relief...The guitar was designed to play in standard tune not to capo it up to standard tune.... Hope you enjoy.......Please subscribe! / jackoshaw

That's an awesome idea, it kind of does what a bridge doctor would do, pulling down that wood

I made this video about three years ago. More than ever, I believe thi is the way to keep your guitar from getting belly bulge... I still and always will store my guitars with pressure on the bridge... It works! I keep my guitars tuned and ready to go...😁😁😁

Tune down to d and capo on 2nd fret. Less string tension makes it easier on the fingers to play as well as not put pressure on the top and neck.
Very often a 12 string sits in a closet and not played as often as a six string. When you pull it out after a month of improper humidity during storage
    you find problems.

Thanks for the comment...It's always good to go through your guitar occasionalle and set it up... I really don't have a lot of problems with my 12 sting guitars, at all, because of this.... I humidify my guitars occasionally and also watch where I store them.... I have an old Framus 12 string (1967)... They were great guitars but need a lot of attention.....I like to keep them tuned at standard , but I also keep an eye on the service of the guitar.... Here is a video of my old Framus 12 string.... Love this guitar! ...ruclips.net/video/-ZFikDvuy0k/видео.html The Framus was, and still is made in Germany..... Today, the Warwick Bass company owns them....

Here's one I recorded on my 1967 Framus.... I love this old guitar and have it set up nicely...I know a low of people that play 12's like the capo on the first fret, but I like to have the guitar set up as it was designed... The Art and Lutherie plays nice but just doesn't have the mellow sound this old framus does...ruclips.net/video/ImcH_sapLac/видео.html

Jack, I learned years ago from having a 12 string that became destroyed from have it tuned to standard E. I recommend keeping your guitar down tuned to D. Standard tuning is far too much tension on the TOp of the guitar at the bridge. You will find if you down tune the guitar to D, you wont have the problem again. Just a suggestion.

I've heard others do that through the years... Great suggestion ..... THanks!

@@jackoshaw I have a Larivée 12 string and have never tuned it down. Prior 12 string guitars I have had and I tuned them down as you recommend but this Larivée is made with very strong braces and they recommend that it be used in standard tuning. What amazes me is that it still has an amazing tone and perfect action. Always thought that heavy bracing would ruin the tone but this guitar still has amazing tone and response and seldom goes out of tune. It is a US made April 2014 L-03 12 string guitar. Best 12 string I have ever owned and it is definitely a keeper!

@@gfurstnsu I have this Art and Lutherie, but usually play my 1967 Framus 12, made in Germany.... I would rathe have them tuned to standard tuning and do, but I have heard of others tuning ther 12 string down..... I am sure they were built with standard tuning in mind...

I also had an old Framus, built like a tank, and wasn't very responsive due to such heavy bracing.

This may be what's wrong with your old Framus... They are great Guitars... I've had mine for over ten years... When I got it, It had Mouse poop inside....ruclips.net/video/nhvyHGL8f6U/видео.html

Ever thought of taking the tension off the strings when you store it away in the closet for 6 months without playing it? Should have that in the user manual when you buy it.

Sorry to rain on your parade but no amount of sweaty socks will eliminate a belly bulge, on the 12 string or the player. Tune the damn thing 2 semitones lower use a capo on 2nd fret

After working on this guitar, early last year to correct the belly bulge. I have been storing this guitar, in this manner... It has really worked and has been over a year with no problems......The sound board is as flat as can be... Just played it today, before work... Still great action...... I know the d tuning is a good solution, for sure, But I prefer my guitar to be tuned standard, the way it was designed.... Thanks so much for the input......Very much appreciated!

Tuning it low also makes a helluva difference to the pull on that poor old neck
