I will be going back and watching all of you tutorials on this thank you so much!! One question because this is my jon boat and electronics.. when I see fish on the screen and I am up on the bow, where are the fish in regards to me facing forward? My transducer is mounted on my trolling motor. Thanks!
All you know for certain is that when you see the fish...it is somewhere within the transducers cone (area). And once you see the full arch for the fish, that fish is no longer within the cone. It is difficult with 2D sonar to pinpoint exactly where the fish is, but if you understand your cone area of coverage, you can get an idea of how far the fish may be from your transducer. This is one reason why side imaging and 360 imaging sonar has become so popular, as it can help you tell exactly where the fish is.
So I just got the striker for vivid and it’s marking tracks but it doesn’t seem to change. It seems like it’s the same spot no matter where I go on the lake because the same exact track in the last area I was in is always showing. I marked a couple spots as I was moving where there were fish but again when I went on the other side of the lake I went to mark some spots and it was still showing the same exact spot I was in earlier. I’m going out to the lake this evening to mess around with it some more so I’ll see what I can figure out but if you have any input that would be great. Thanks, Chris
Hello Ive recently had an issue with my garmin striker 4 it is not showing the depth at all, but it will show everything but depth, (Water temp, volts, ect,) you have any idea how to fix this?
Hopefully just a settings issue...try this Start on the sonar screen, press menu, scroll down to and select overlay numbers, scroll down to depth and make sure it says SHOW instead of HIDE
Paul can you explain what I am doing rong with my vivid Trying to store tracks and route and save them in the unit. When I go to a different lake location of water the past tracks and route are showing. Can't seem to start a new one Mark
Not sure I fully understand the question, its hard in comments sometimes....are you looking to save a new track on a different lake, but the old saved tracks from other lakes are showing on the screen?
So here is my first guess...look at the bottom of the screen and see what you are showing for your zoom level on the waypoint map...sometimes if your zoomed to far out on a small body of water other stuff will show and look like its just over everything else. Try to zoom in to your new spot and see if that helps.
Question: First, I used the Striker 4 last summer for the first time. I was on a pretty large lake and my depth kept jumping all over the place. It would jump from say 45 ft to 12 ft, 16 ft to 30 ft in just a matter of secs while only moving a few feet... I'm newer to this. fish finders in general. So with that said, is that normal for lake bottom to jump from depths like that in just a matter of a few feet distance? Or was their something wrong? Like say I didn't have transducer far enough in water?! Any help would be appreciated.
I would say that most bodies of water do not experience those types of changes rapidly. How is your transducer mounted currently? Was you sitting still or moving? What type of boat? How far is the transducer in the water?
@@1Cast1Fish I was in a canoe. I rigged up the transducer to a 2×4 and clamped it to the side of the canoe. I probably didn't have it in water far enough. How deep should transducer be?!
Needs to be completely submerged, but if the canoe rocks it may come out of the water a bit. try about 5-6" below the water line....also watch the water displacement behind the 2x4 as if it is displacing water around the transducer while moving it would be just like having a air gap and funky readings. Thate transducer should be in non turbulent water and the 2x4 may be creating that with it's size.
When Ya Gonna Start The tutorial for The Garmin Striker Vivid 7 And Or 9 SV ? LoL,, Yeah I Upgraded To The 9SV ,These Shallow Water Oxbow Lakes Here It was A Necessity For Electronics To Be Effective , The 4 with CV Is Great In water Over 10ft ,and Deeper Water Is Even Better , But most of my Fishin 🎣 spots is From 2 to 8 ft deep ,, Can't wait to put this one to use ,, Keep it Reelin 💦🐟🎣🤠😁
Nice upgrade, but IMO if you really want to change your shallow water fishing go with a side imaging unit....they do amazing for seeing out there in shallow lakes. problem with traditional sonar in shallow water is you barely have any cone size....but with side imaging you can look out 60+ feet to your sides.
@@1Cast1Fish the Side View is what I should have done in the first place honestly but it's all good , I'm gonna get another boat here in the near future Somewhere ,might be a year down the road but I fish some of the coastal Areas with Deeper Water ,I Also fish the River there's some Deep Holes in there that the Garmin Striker 4 plus CV works great for , it's Deep enough to let the cone expand plus I'm looking for catfish , I'll day this , Garmiñ is a fantastic unit no matter what the situation , Anyone Who Fishes shallow water oxbows , Creeks , beaver ponds , Sloughs , etc,,, Save till you can get the Cadillac Of Sonar Equipment ,the Garmin Striker 9 SV , you gotta have the side view capability , if you're Fishin 🎣 Deep Waters A Traditional Garmin Striker Series with Clear View Will get the job Done , The Side View is a bit different reading what you see and understanding it , you goitfa keep in mind it's looking down before it looks side to side , that black edge on each side is Right under the transducer so to speak ,then it looks right and left for the set distance you have , what your seeing on each side on the edge of the black strip is the same on both sides because it's what's under the Boat ,, once your brain wraps around that you begin to grasp how and what ya seeing lol ,, setting is one of the main points the brightness and contrast with each color palette is a Little bit different ,, Im still learning how to set it up , Any tips on Settings is Always Appreciated Thanks Again For the help with my Striker 4 plus CV ,The tutorial on it is Great , Keep It Reelin Brother 💦🐟🎣🤠
I tend to go out to about 100-150ft looking for bait balls, 75-100ft on each side looking for structure, and about 50-60ft or so looking for fish on my SV
@@1Cast1Fish I've Managed to Get out but a couple of quick short trips In less than good Water conditions Since the upgrade , I Do Like What I Saw From This Model of the Garmin , We've hit The Spring Rainy Spell here it looks like, But it's that time of year , The High Water Makes It tough this time of year , I usually Just Put A Few Set Hooks Out For A Catfish or two until things settle down , I have a spot or two I need to try this Sonar out on , should be fun , Appreciate The Tips , Anything Else pass it along , Keep It Reelin Brother 💦🐟🎣🤠
