My record is 9756850 i did it when i was 15 old, and the game just crushed. The interesting thing was that when I set this record in the end instead of giving me points for a killed target it gave me lives and the game just crashed. I beat the game in one try, I rarely get killed. I have collected more than 30 spare live's. Now I'm 52 and I can make a record with a much better play than what I've seen so far. oh, and I don't have a joystick, I play with the keyboard, which is very inconvenient. You're almost never on time and you miss a lot of targets. You're probably not trying hard. However, this video taught me that there are more than 10 hidden towers that I didn't know existed. Thanks a lot!
Wow! One of my favorite games from my youth. Used to play the #$@! Out of it back in the 80s in an old school arcade. I vaguely remember being able to get pretty far on one quarter (after investing $$ in learning to play). Great run and thanks for a trip back to reminisce about my youth.
Fantastic!! 😃 I didn't play it back then (lucky you!) but it still holds up pretty well! At first the presentation and slow pace was a bit off-putting, but after a couple of credits I got into it and as soon as I found the first sol tower and started playing for score I was hooked! 🕹
The sol towers or the flags? The former are completely fixed, so if you can't get them that port may be different. Try looking for them with your reticle, it should blink when it's on top of one.
@@MPSTG_brb I can tell you in day or 2. I'm in the middle of RE'ing Xevious (arcade version) and am decoding the area object tables. I've identified the sol towers and totalled for each area and they all agree with yours except area 6. I'm in the middle of writing a tool to extract the map data and show the objects. I'll let you know ASAP!
@@MPSTG_brb Try googling 'retro ports' for my blog. It has the info you're after. I can't find any other way of contacting you or have you contact me as all my replies are getting deleted.
@@markmcdougall2406 Why is that? All your replies are welcome! I've checked your blog retroports.blogspot.com and did a quick test but there doesn't seem to be anything in that spot ruclips.net/video/sXu8V9xQ718/видео.html. Maybe it's in the code but unused? 🤔 I you complete the map we can add it to the shmups.wiki (I've been meaning to create a page for this game there) :D
It depends on your current skill/experience and your goals. A survival 1-ALL/1CC (completing 1 loop without continues) is on the easier side when it comes to shmups. If you try to score (and not just by surviving longer) you'll need a better strategy and pulling it off will be harder due to RNG and rank (air enemies are not fixed and the dinamic difficulty will get harder), but it's not too bad either, a matter of practice. A no miss (no deaths) 1-ALL with every secret or a counterstop (9,999,990) would be quite a feat though! It's all about your goal. Whatever it is you can do it, go for it! ;)

Good stuff. I simply loved this game for the maneuverability, dodging and hidden gems 😍😍
Thank you bringing back so many memories 👌

At least get a USB Nintendo controller or something. Playing with the keyboard sounds brutal haha. Also that score is crazy!
I remember 😅. The bloody background noise
thank you. I'm a fan of this game and I only some some of these hidden secrets. Well done.
my man, you MURDERED this playthrough, i wish every xevious game i play was like this!
the highest score i've ever got is roughly 200,000.
Thanks! That's not a bad score, this game can be devious 😅
@@MPSTG_brb exactly! i'm aiming for 300,000 rn glad someone else loves this game like i do!

Dope run and sweet carnival music! Congrats!
Sweet carnival music indeed! XD
Thanks! I had a lot of fun with this game :D
Those S flags remind me of Rally X. That's also a great game.
Yeah they're from that game! :D
I've never played it though, maybe I should change that.
Does anyone know if this works on the pac-man plug n play device that includes Xevious. I can never get the flags or towers in that device.
This is one tough game
I couldn’t get them in the pac man plug and play console that I got am I not hitting them in the right spot or am I just on a different one?

Am I reading the scoring right in that if you down a Sol Citadel, you get ZERO points?
Nope, you get 2k by revealing them and another 2k for destroying them 👍
(4k each, 180k/140k per loop ^^)
What do the flags do again
Usually extra lives, or points with different DIP switches.
(It's somewhere in the description)
Area 6 has 2x Sol Towers!
Where??? 🤯 I think there are only 45 towers in total. Some stages share (part of the) backgrounds so maybe that 2nd sol tower is in another stage?
