Absolutely a great artist! Back in the 60’s and 70’s I had made friends with a similar very talented man. He used to form aircraft skins in Gardena Ca. His big machine was called a Yoder(?) hammer. He also had 4 planishing machines along with stretching and shrinking machines. My favorite was an old huge flat leather bag with 300-400 pounds of small size lead shot and assorted hammers made of different materials. I had a small machine shop and would keep him in supply of the hammer inserts. If I remember I used to machine them out of Carpenter S-7 steel and have them hardened. Was always amazed how long they would be in service with only a few licks of a belt sander and some polishing. My friends shop was only a one man business. Was really amazed how he could manage the sheets of aluminum which were as big as a piece of plywood. He also fabricated race car body parts for the many speed shops in Southern California at the time. Thanks for this REALLY interesting video, and 50+ years of memories!!!!! What a beautiful machine that yellow monster is the old Yoder looked like a piece of crap compared to your new machine. Skilled people like this man are impossible to find nowadays. Even back in the 60’s I thought it was a lost art!

Either he is the worlds shortest dude or that is a monster of a power hammer that only jay Leno can afford to have in his workshop!

Rick Gray I believe this tool will be a came changer in the world of metal fab mainly because of its speed at getting to a rough shape. I would still use a wheel to finish off with.

Where can I buy the templates for the panel cutouts?

Go outside on a cold day in your underwear with a hammer and a panel. You can do this in 5 min from the severe shivering!

Can you tell me what the clearance is between the faces of the dies when you shrinking the edges, I have made a set of shrinking dies from looking at the different dies on youtube, I have a GARU MK4 28mm square shanks mine does mangle the material much like yours appeared to do but I wasn't able to get it to roll and shrink, almost like it got so far and then began to stretch again. I have set the clearance to slightly more than the thickness of the material, may be I haven't increased the clearance as the material gains thickness during the operation.

Clearance varies over the surface of the dies. You want minimum clearance in a crescent shape around the end of the thumbnail so that the dies knock down the tuck as you pull the metal out. You actually don't want to pinch the material on the thumbnail, you want to form it into a tuck as you push the metal in, and then more or less not do anything to it on the way out. Good luck!

Needs a platform around it so you are not working above you shoulders.

Might as well be made of powdered unicorn horn! Got more chance of pushing fog uphill with a toothpick than ever owning one, sigh!

All is not lost! Two years on and now the proud owner of a Pullmax!!! Now I can do jobs like this in my workshop. Been a long hard road but got there. Still would love one of these but happy with the Pullmax compromise. Still a great video.

Has anyone ever noticed two things about Baleighs Power Hammers and Videos thry post?
    1. They never ever ever show them forming STEEL/SHEET METAL, EVER!
    2. Dont ever lose the Manuals for any of Baleighs Power Hammers... They will never provide a replacement and none exist online.
Basically machines are useless without manual, I have two of them needing parts, without manuals cant find parts, without manuals I cant train someone to run/learn basic setup.
Strangely I can get pdf manuals for my Eckold KF675 Kraftformer online.
