The annoying part about this passive aggressive hitpiece that Coffin made is that both Peter coffin and Destiny probably agree with eachother to a large extent on this issue. It's just a giant strawman
Pretty much. I wonder if Coffin realizes how much he discredits himself and the entire video when he makes such obvious strawmans. He made some really good information in this video, but it's going to be overlooked because of the obvious fallacies he's committing.
Avenger idk; destiny is the same guy who supposedly doesn’t support US imperialism; while simultaneously un-ironically defending the Vietnam genocide war.
Hitpieces and strawman arguments are pretty much all of Coffin's content. Just look at his videos where he challenges peterson's self help ideas by intentionally misreading everything he said or wrote..
@@exiledhebrew1994 He never defended the Vietnam war. In his debate with noncompete, when that vietnamese girl interjected, he said that socialism failing due to outside pressure was a sign of it being a weaker, less effective system that's less likely to function.
Greatkingrat88 he also said”if your country gets rolled over by stronger capitalist nations; that sounds like an argument for my System”
Yes, this is a might makes right argument. So yes, this is in defense of the Vietnam war; or any other offensive genocide war of aggression launched by the capitalists.

Leftists complain that Destiny doesn't understand leftism
Because he does. Peter's straw men are jokes, clearly. Meanwhile destiny actually thinks that leftists beleives his straw views of what they think. He just dosnt understand leftism. It's not the same as mockery.
@@ianwells5414 Correction: Peter's straw men were bad jokes. If you want to do satire, you still have to do it well. You can't make bad arguments and then claim its satire to run away. That's what every right wing troll does. I'm very disappointed in seeing leftists use the same excuses the alt right does.
@@BeethovenIsGrumpyCat I mean all of the jokes were making fun of real opinions, they just didn't all happen to be destinies (although some certainly were). I'm not sure how this is in any way equivalent to the alt-right shitting on minorities and saying that they are just joking. It was literally set up as satire. Did Steven Colbert's character on the Colbert Report always have to make perfect arguments? Or did he exaggerate the right wing perspective at times for comedic affect. Lets actually talk about the content rather than joke policing.
Leftism is the easiest thing to understand. If it feels like it sounds nice and involves free shit / wealth distribution / hatred of success = good leftism. Everything else makes you literally Hitler.

Wait does this guy really think if you give two people the same income, the same job, and essentially the same equality of life that it will rid the world of racism? What sort of bs is that....
I'm a leftist and it looks to me like he isn't saying that much. What he's saying, I think, and what I personally believe, is that part of what causes racism is economic. A class of exploited workers are bound to be unhappy, and it's historically observable that under these conditions people tend towards oppressing others. In telling themselves that "at least I don't have to drink from the n-slur fountain," they get to feel like they're above at least _someone_ on the social hierarchy. So the idea is that alleviating the soul crushing conditions these people are suffering will also eliminate this coping mechanism.
To say that that's all racism is seems reductive, though there is a case for this too. Note also that even if this case is made, it's quite different to say that racism arose from oppressive conditions than to say that ending those conditions will end racism.
Since, after all, we apparently dislike straw men here on Destiny's channel, I think this clarification deserves your consideration.

If socialists have to explain how a co-op can end racism then destiny has to explain how the current hierarchical buisness structure he supports ends racism.
Ian Wells Destiny never made the positive claim. When has he stated capitalism helps end racism?
@@jon9428 I mean I think that's pretty obvious to everyone and precisely my point, I am not sure of any socialists who think worker co-ops end racism. The most I would say is that any workers who are going to enter into a co-op where black workers have equal power to them are far less likely to not be racist than current business owners who are far more likely to have black people working under them.
@@hoominbeeing He hasn't, but I have never heard a socialist say that socialism ends racism and somehow that is the standard Destiny is using to judge the socialism. My point is that if ending racism is his metric he need to analyze the system he defends as well.
@@jon9428 I mean capitalism does propetuate racism in the way that it allows the mostly white people currently in power to further extract labor and wealth from marginalized people, I dont think anyone would say that co-ops alone completely solves this problem though.
As I said, if you expect this of socalism you have to expect this of your prefered system, and It's really weird to me that your using a government regulation on buisnesses to show how ethical capitalism naturally is.

@@LostieTrekieTechie wasn't talking about Destiny XD
@@LostieTrekieTechie Oof, good try. Better luck next time
Peter's wayyyyy better than NoBullshit. The strawmans were incredibly annoying though.
This dude is living in a fantasy world. People will support things that directly effect them more often than not. That's why most people are comfortable saying they support combating climate change yet would be against policy that directly lowers their quality of life. Even if the end outcome is good for them, the immediate outcome is bad and they don't want to take that sort of risk. What if they make all these sacrifices and things don't get better for them. This is why he has such wild beliefs. He thinks people will do what's right.... not what is necessary.
You're just divining these conclusions, what are they even based on? You _can_ compromise endlessly, but if you continue to give in to power - conceding to what 'is' over what ought to be - the philosophical conclusion is _might makes right._ To advocate for how things should be is self-evidently the correct course of action, and does not imply that someone doesn't see how things are. The only logical reason not to advocate something other than doing what seems necessary from a myopic standpoint is if you don't actually want change.
@@Disentropic1 Claiming that I'm just 'divining' conclusions is just insulting, and makes it almost worthless to respond to you. Instead of wondering why I'm coming to my conclusions you are just assuming I'm making them up. In very basic psychology and philosophy there is an idea called 'egoism'. There are many different types of egoism, but a very basic premise is that humans will choose self-interest over altruism and even when choosing to take a altruistic action are doing it in self interest. You can disagree, but do not pretend everyone who states something informally is just making it up. There are plenty of studies you can find showing this. When you take extremely nuanced issues and generalize them as a net positive (like saving the planet) people will act in self interest and say "Yes we should save the planet". Once the nuances come out, and policy starts being talked about, people weigh the negative effects to their own life vs the perceived positive effects.
@@damiennewman1992 Your understanding of what psychology says about altruism and self-interest is apparently _extremely_ naive, to the point where I cannot help but suspect that using this as a justification for your rhetoric is self-deception on your part. Given a competent, or if not then at least a charitable reading, it should be clear that the left does _not_ argue for leaving behind self-interest in the name of altruism. Rather, what's being said is that what you're calling altruistic (e.g. saving the planet) _is_ in the vast majority of individuals' self interest, and that people who don't see this should have it clarified to them. Now are you able to grapple with the actual argument, or would you rather continue babbling about this false dichotomy you've inserted to caricature my position?
I have a far deeper experience and understanding of philosophy than Destiny does, I've watched him learn the ropes, and seen him stumble along the way. There are still many useful philosophical concepts he's totally blind to. The last thing I need is an education on egoism from someone who makes the same naive, narrow-minded errors that Steven _used_ to make (even _he_ has gotten beyond the simple mistake you're making here quite some time ago).
So, let me be humble and to the point for a moment now. I am looking at my own experience and acting based on that. I personally see things the left wants as in my own self-interest, including making compromises in my day-to-day life in order to, if you like, reap the psychological rewards of leaving a future to those who come after me. So my humble question is: what's the difference between me and how another person thinks? I think they're wrong, and I'm trying to get them to see things my way. It's that simple. For you to tell me that people won't endorse left ideas, based on some abstraction you have about "human nature" is, taken literally, an argument that I don't think and feel what I know I do. If you want to convince me I'm wrong, you'll have to show me what the difference is between me, such that I think this way, and someone else, such that they don't, in a way that convinces me it's against my self-interest to try to get others to see things as I do. So, move past your ideology, and get to the point.
@@Disentropic1 I think you completely missed the point I was making which is ironic because you are being so condescending about the exact same thing. I am 100% in favor of saving the planet, and this is not a conversation of left vs right vs extremes. My point had to do with the statistics in the video. Saying 'this percent' of people support 'this general and arguably universal good' does not equate to getting legislation passed to complete said goal, and it's disingenuous to pretend otherwise. That is why I brought self interest. You claimed I was 'making up' the fact that people often act in their PERCEIVED self interest. Many people are not willing sacrifice for that cause because many of the conceptual policies go against the IMMEDIATE self interest of those in the lower and middle class. The video made it sound like the reasoning was because of politicians not wanting to do what is right (and that people owning the means of production would change that), but in reality when a specific idea is brought forward the masses that STILL support saving the planet do not support HOW they are proposing going about it. Telling lower and middle class individuals they can't drive to work is an issue. Telling them they need to upgrade their vehicle is an issue. Telling them they need to update their home with solar panels is an issue. This is because a lot of people don't have that sort of disposable income. People aren't willing to actively harm themselves.
@@damiennewman1992
1. The left does _not_ reduce systemic problems to matters of personality. Take the fascist-friendly theory of the "great men of history." This spin on history imagines most of what's historically significant to be achieved in a vacuum by a few elites, whose names we remember. Put to one side is the bulk of the work that leads to the outcome, work having been done by everyday people, over long periods of time, in mundane ways. To whatever extent Peter Coffin gets this wrong and blames politicians for being 'bad,' he's wrong. I happen to think he doesn't get this wrong at all, though. More likely, you've merely misinterpreted him. The argument is that capitalism creates an incentive for corruption, because as it fortifies power within private industry - power which comes into conflict with democracy - this encourages private power to manipulate politicians. This is not the fault of _bad apples,_ but a systemic dysfunction. While liberals tend to believe that replacing a given leader will resolve the issue, and simultaneously spouts hypocrisy in the form of adages about all politicians being individually corrupt, the left is the group that says this system itself creates the outcomes, and is broken.
2. The left *despises* making the middle and lower class pay for social needs, *far more,* and *far more consistently* than liberals. Do you _sincerely_ believe that opposing leftism is necessary to support the working class!? Come _on._ You are arguing _against_ *BOURGEOIS* 'solutions' to social problems, and somehow pinning those 'solutions' to the _left!!!_ It's liberals who push, for instance, a mere carbon tax, while _leftists_ call for a dramatic overhaul of society, and a massive jobs program to protect those who lose their coal worker positions from losing their financial security. It's the _LEFT_ who call for more progressive taxation. The issues you're describing fall under the heading: *personal responsibility rhetoric.* It's a dodge in order to avoid confronting the systemic nature of our problems. The fact that such solutions aren't palatable to people is not a problem for the left. The problem is that better ideas are marginalized by liberals as "too radical," and the nonsensical suggestion is that because they're more radical, more left, they're also more hypocritical and unpopular than the sort of weak garbage liberals push, as if greater change meant greater hardship.

@@heraldofoblivion499 I mean if the only problem you see with our current system is racism than I agree isnt moving it much. Thankfully we can do more than one thing at a time though. Unions and coops are the only structure, based in democracy, to challenge the power of capital, which I think is also a pretty big problem right now.
