Good Call On the Autopilot Trim...Another thing to add is Hold the AP Disconnect button and check to make sure the trim isn't working. I was taught to do that in the event you do have a runaway trim issue while hand flying.
Garmin Flyer. Another great video. I like how you approach each flight with learning objectives, don’t edit out your small mistakes or things you could have done differently and then debrief those items. Cheers!
Garmin Flyer. Great videos Scott. I have been a Garmin guy for a while since Foreflight was not the best option for GA flying in Europe. Happy landings and keep the good stuff coming. Take care
Thanks for the break down! I love Cirrus, rent 172, but got checked out in a g2 SR20. If I ever won the lottery, I wouldn't tell anyone, but there would be signs...
Hey Scott, I love watching you fly my favorite cirrus! I can't wait to purchase my own SR22 G7. Maybe in the next year or two. I'm not far from ya, just across the border about 2 hrs east of Windsor . Sorry our airport fees are expensive! 🫣 I know some good people at The St. Thomas Municipal Airport and could get ya in free sometime if you're in the area.😂 I'm an retired active 50 year old going on 35 lol and have just started my ground school for my PPL. I'm looking forward to the skies! I have lived here in Canada since we landed in Toronto on September 3rd, 1981, from England. Been awhile! Anyways, have a great time and enjoy your 2 weeks in Europe! Keep up the great content! Dave Ps: I would love the Garmin maps but probably doesn't make sense for me to ask politely, since I'm only doing ground school first. I have 15 weeks to go before I am in the famous Cessna 172! 😂 Appreciate your kindness Scott. Take care and fly safe !
Hi Dave, I love flying across the border and the minor fees won’t stop me 😉 I’m in and out of Billy Bishop a lot to see my daughter who is going to school in Toronto. It’s probably my favorite airport all time.
@flying_scott I watched that video a while ago and was wishing I was in the second seat 💺 lol. Such an amazing view coming in on rwy 08 or 26. If your flying over London enroute next time, give the wings a tip for me ! 😂
Thanks for sharing your real world costs. The only thing that surprised me was the actual purchase price of your plane. I am currently looking at G6 Turbos with more hours than yours ( in demo) and there are quite a few G6's fully loaded like yours at higher list prices. This was super helpful, and thanks again.
Hey Scott! Great video again. I'm currently looking at the alternative of buying a used G3. I'm kind of going back and forth between going all in and buy a G7, like you, or buying a used aircraft for $400.000 and potentially buy something newer later. Thanks for sharing the numbers at the end of the video. I've had a hard time finding numbers that I feel like I can trust, untill now. Really helpful. And remember, you're always welcome here in the south of France. I can even get you in a brand new G7 in Cannes if you want to.
I get it, it’s a tough call. My G2 was a far better value proposition. But as much as I am flying now, it’s worth the upgrade to me. Plus, the G7 will hold its value pretty well for a few years. I will probably offload it in 3 years for another new one or maybe I’ll be flying gulfstreams 🤪
@@flying_scott I 100% understand why you bought the G7. Such a stable, comfortable, fun to fly aircraft, and it's going to hold its value well. Is a SF50 in your plans/dreams at any point? Or are you going to fly gulfstreams instead?
@@LarsTiger I don’t think the VJ fits into my mission(s). It comes with a hefty operating cost. I think any upgrades I do will only happen if I go the professional route, which is my plan for now.
[Garmin Flyer] Great content, good landings! Looking to upgrade from an Archer to a Cirrus soon. I wanted to fly the Archer for a bit (10 years now 🙂) but finishing up my IFR so looking forward to the move to a Cirrus.
Had my door pop open during takeoff and climb occasionally after I picked up my g7. Thought I was forgetting to latch and lock but it turned out the door frame wasn’t quite aligned. Had my service center realign and all has been great since. Not sure that’s you’re problem but something to consider. Impossible to close in flight. The cirrus answer for that happening in flight is to land when you can but not obviously not an emergency.
I will have to keep a look out for the same issue. Only happened once so far, looking at the video, the latch was down before takeoff, but it may not have been fully engaged. If it happens again, I will have maintenance look at the alignment as you mentioned. Thanks!
Great flying Scott. As someone who has a lot of experience in the G6, I'm lov'in the upgraded avionics in the G7. It's really looking like the VisionJet(SF50) . The last Cirrus sales rep I spoke with said they were making the SR22 line a natural transition aircraft to the SF50. I believe he stated it was to get more pilots Jet certified. Now if you can believe that answer, please let me know. I know going from the G7 to the SF50 does feel(looks) natural. You just need a lot of the time controlling the throttle along with a lot of other new checklist items(as would be expected). Please let me Scott what you think. I am lov'in the upgraded avionics. Again, great flying Scott? One more quick question.... What keeps the plane in the air? Think logically not, FAA written... Can't wait for more videos. Thanks for sharing Scott!
It’s a hot mag check, basically making sure the grounding is still good in the off position prior to shutting down so you don’t have a live mag with the engine off and hot fuel vapors.
Hey Scott, I am a retired (2010) UK military pilot with around 16.000 hrs on analogue instrumented aircraft; I came across your channel on a recommendation. I haven't flown in anything other than an airliner since retiring. Still, I am aware of the advances in avionics technology and watch with interest how you handle/programme the 2 main displays with the 2 touchscreen tabs. I've more or less worked out what is happening but haven't yet worked out the blue/cyan rubber banding centred on the aircraft on the map? right screen. I notice it is fairly uniform behind the aircraft and a little more ragged to the sides and front. Is it some form of terrain notification or something else? Thanks
Hi! Great question, that is the glide ring. Basically showing the glide distance based on current speed, wind, etc. Really handy when flying over bodies of water or if you were to have an engine out, if you could make the airport.
You right, these video’s give you a great insight to the little things missed, now me personally, I would have landed once I’d realised the passenger door was an issue, irrespective of how minimal the problem, a door opening or flapping might have caused greater issue’s and better to be safe, then sorry.
I been looking at getting my PPL. They have a cirrus center near me. I was thinking to learn in a sr20 or sr22. Do you recommend that or is that a bad plane to learn in?
It’s a great plane, I’d probably start in the SR20, just because it’s a bit less power. That would be my only hesitation, compared to a Cessna, diamond, or similar.. the speed. It can be easier to learn in something slower (I guess) as things just don’t happen as fast so you are less prone to get behind the plane. But if you don’t know any better, it shouldn’t be a thing. It’s a very easy plane to fly (in my opinion).
Not dumb at all, I could see how that might make you think that… but no, it’s USD, I live in Michigan and go into Canada a lot because my daughter goes to University of Toronto. It’s strange, I have flown into two Canadian airports, Toronto and Quebec, and I get random bills for usage like a month later. Not major, like $30.
You are missing engine overhaul in your budget. Not a big deal if budgeting for the engine in the future isn’t your problem but if you are looking to get real estimates on your fixed and variable cost engine overhaul needs to be added to your variable. It may only be like $30 per hour but that increases your variable cost by almost 50% based on the numbers you have.
I would love to know what you do for work or what type of business you own that allows you to spend so much money flying a Cirrus. Are you at all worried about the upcoming recession?
I sold my business this year. I really wanted a turboprop, but that was not in the budget. I get this is out of a lot of people’s budget, but it’s all relative. And as far as a recession, I don’t have a crystal ball, but I’m also not worried about it. I don’t live leveraged and I’ll be a buyer when a downturn does come. 08’-09’ was a good lesson in being ready for “winter”.
Thanks for sharing the cost analysis. I applaud you for taking a best in class approach.
