CADENZAS FOR VIVALDI's GROSSO MOGUL There are three different cadenzas for the famous Grosso Mogul concerto. We found the cadenzas in two different sources, Schwerin Cividale del Friuli. Although the cadence for the first movement is almost identical in both manuscripts, the cadence for the third movement is different in each one of them. These cadences were possibly written by Vivaldi himself, although there are still doubts about its authenticity these cadences are a true demonstration of virtuosity. Makes me think of le Cerf and why cultivated French at the time found this music unbearably rude and boisterous. The interpretation seems to aim at a satirical hyperbole putting the vulgarity of the piece in such sharp relief that it becomes quite funny. The proof is in the blancmange.

I can understand why persons of high culture in those days regarded this as vulgar circus music. More or less like I look down on hard rock bands.
