I'm in my first year as a personal trainer and you've made me realize I'm doing a lot better than I thought I was. Thank you for these videos I wish I found them sooner!
These videos are so incredibly helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to create them and thank you for making them free! You are impacting the world of personal training and fitness in such a positive way.
Thanks as always Jeff! Got my cert. Finished my online cert. Working on nutrition then strength and conditioning and weight loss finally. Im just frying my brain! Your videos dial it in and make everything much easier to visualize.
Awesome content! I am a new certified personal trainer and want to work with clients who want to lose weight. This video was really helpful because I have been searching a lot on the internet for more information about phasing but there's nothing that really explains it in a structured way. Thank you for posting and looking forward to watching the next video :)
I qualified as a CPT years ago but didn’t end up working as a PT as I decided to pursue other things; however, I didn’t stop training myself, so I’m pretty familiar and current on exercising form and technique and the various types of exercises for different muscle structures. now I am applying for PT jobs and your channel has helped me out a ton to become “current” and brush up on all the things I was looking on refresher courses online but the only way seemed like was to get recertification but I don’t have the money right now to do that and then I came across your channel. Thank you for what you’ve done here as it takes time and effort to do this! ❤️
This is amazing! I am an aspiring online personal trainer / coach and I've been reading a tonne about this kind of stuff from papers and books. But it wasn't clear to me how to actually periodise and still progressively overload at the same time. My mum is my first 'client' so I really want to do a good job with her and get things right and this video has really, REALLY helped so thanks so much!! I am glad to say that I would have chosen very similar exercises for beginners too haha :)
Glad that you found it helpful! It’s always good to work with friends and family while you’re still new and figuring things out. It sounds like you’re off to a great start!
SO HELPFUL OMG I'm a new NASM CPT and am typically one to overthink things. I take this new role incredibly seriously and want to create *safe and effective* workout programs for my future clients. I've really been trying to research and find more information on proper programming/phasing/periodization in order to create a solid format/system that I could use to build workouts off of. I'm very visual and and your chart that you featured in this video is everything! This is exactly what I've been looking for but have been struggling to find across the internet. So thanks a TON! Just subscribed to you and can't wait to watch more of your content and learn from you!
I’m glad that you’re finding everything helpful! This is actually one of our older videos! I’m sure you’ll find some of our more recent ones even better. This link should work for you: www.sortahealthylifestyle.com/freepersonaltrainingforms Thanks for the support btw! We really appreciate it!
DUDE THANK YOU SOO MUCH. lol if I could subscribe twice I would!! I have been racking my brain for the past two days trying to figure out the perfect programming/phasing for clients within my new app and this hit everything right on the nail as well as a bunch of your other workouts in your programming personal training education playlist. Once again thank you so much I will suggest your channel to all of my trainer friends😁🤜🏾🤛🏼
Jeff I have been watching video after video since I subscribed a few days ago! I am loving your material. Please try and make an app for these. I'm pretty sure most of us will pay you for it. It's extremely helpful. You are the man! 🙏💪👏
Thank you! I’m glad that you’re finding everything helpful! We’ll have an app solution at some point for sure. I’m not gonna lie though, I think even at that point paper and pencil (the way we use these charts now) will probably be better. You end up making tons of changes to people’s workout charts in the middle of their sessions. Doing that with paper and pencil is easier then it is via app, or tablet, etc. Paper and pencil definitely works best for training having tried both. That being said, we’ll still be exploring more options at some point.
Thanks Jeff for all these info. Metabolic conditioning gives me problems to understand,if you ever have time it really would be nice to have a video explaining Metabolic conditioning deeper. Thank you.
Maybe I’ll try to spend some extra time on it in an upcoming video! For now though, I’d try to think of the metabolic phase as pretty similar to the muscular endurance phase but with a few extra metabolic movements thrown in. Things like battle rope waves, an interval or two on the rowing machine mid session would appear more often in the metabolic phase.
@@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation I really will be waiting for the video about this, the more I go back to the phasing system you designed am always left not sure of what to make of the Metabolic conditioning phase. I'll stay tuned for the video. Thanks
Thanks a million for all the content very helpful and informative. From these videos you are having a huge impact on the lives of many people around the world. Keep up the great work chief :).
Please make a video about how important is resistance training on the process of loosing weight, I notice that a lot of people that go to the gym only focus on cardio in the believe that this activity is enough to loose the weight.
Without resistance training you will look "skinny fat". People think cardio burns "fat" when in actuality it burns calories. You need resistance training to at least maintain existing muscle while you burn calories. This prevents the aforementioned "skinny fat" look.
These videos are great. You can tell you're passionate about your work and you have a great structure. Clear and concise as well. I'm curious what happens after you take a client through all phases? I imagine you may discuss these long term things in other videos.
Kevin Price thanks for the feedback it means a lot! Good question! Once they go through all of the phases typically they go back to the first one again. That foundational phase is meant to serve as a more free form phase after going through it the initial time. It has a rep count of 8-20 so it’s at at the trainers discretion as to what they think works best for the client
Hey, all your content is so amazing!!! I so so appreciate that! Quick question (maybe dumb) - if I go through all the phases, let's say I have an experienced lifter, aim for "physique" - I could potentially skip the foundation phase yes, and move on with hypertrophy, then muscular endurance followed by strength. If I worked through all these phases, do I then start from the beginning? Again hypertrophy, endurance, strength?
Not a dumb question! Yes-you can do that. And then correct, you would either go back to the beginning, continue with one phase longer or reevaluate goals and potentially go to a different track.
I feel like certain muscle groups require slightly different rep ranges for being in these categories. Like for examples calf raises and shrugs have such a small ROM that I think you can basically double the rep ranges of each category.
I don’t know if I agree about doubling the rep ranges but ya you can definitely go outside of the rep ranges if needed. They’re just meant to be a guide you don’t have to follow them to a tee.
Great informative video, I just subscribed. I reviewed the free to use forms and I am excited to give it a try. I just started training folks. I have a few forms I made myself but this is a great thing to have and review what I may have missed or overlooked. I tried joining the site though and it wouldn't let me. Hey friend! I have a question and I really hope you can help me. Following phasing methods, if an individual is looking to LOSE WEIGHT and I work with him on foundation phase then muscular endurance phase, and then hypertrophy phase will I have to change his diet to bulk during hypertrophy and strength phasing so that he can pack some muscles???
Good question! I would say no! If their main goal is weight loss, the only way they’ll lose weight is by being in a caloric deficit. So keep your client in a caloric deficit, even in those other phases. If their goals change later on, and they become more interested in muscle mass, than I would start adding in more foods to help with gaining weight or bulking. Keep phasing them just like you are, that sounds good!
@@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation Thank you for your quick feedback! You have no idea how much I as well as others here are appreciating your quick responses! Keep up the good work. Honestly, your channel is sooooo educative, and whilst I am doing my qualifications I am also learning from you A LOT!!!!
You definitely could use it but we do have one that we use specifically for online training. This video details online consultations and there is a link to download that consultation form: ruclips.net/video/5xUqeZ4BZ2E/видео.html
We don’t phase people who only come in once a week. We call once a week “maintenance” because you can’t really expect to make much progress doing it that way. We put the people who come in twice a week or more into the phasing system that most closely aligned with their goals. So a client looking to lose weight would start in total body lean and a client looking to gain strength would start off in strength first.
@@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation sorry to come back to this 3 months later, but would you not put someone on phasing even if they're regularly exercising, say 5 times a week, but only have one session a week with their PT?
