Love the Man, Warren Zevon. He's an intellectual artist. He bowed down to transmit his art to us all.

Thank you so much for posting this. Have always loved his work. His was a space that I imagine nobody will come along and fill. When people “discover “ him, they often take a deep dive. “How have I missed his work.” Long live Warren!

Warren found out about his condition at end of August 2002. He performed 3 songs on Letterman Oct 2002 where he commented "enjoy every sandwich". He worked on his final album winter of 2002/2003. He became a recluse and died Sept. 7,2003. He lived 1 year after diagnosis.

I was lucky enough to live near LA, and see, and hear, and feel, Warren a number of times. It was said then, the kids who wanted tp be popular, liked the Eagles and that singer/songwriter stuff. While the smart kids liked Warren, and before, Love and the Doors.

I love how Warren reflexes on his answers without pretentious BS like so many so called stars.

    • @t3hPoundcake

Warren never considered himself a star, that's the difference I think. He always talked about how artists like Bob Dylan and Billy Joel were "better than him" in so many words. I think Warren was one of the best lyricists to ever live though personally.

I bought a copy of the book in New York about 12 years ago. Warren not only gave his blessing but insisted that Crystal tell the WHOLE truth about him, even the ugly parts, from his drug abuse and violence to his relapse after getting the diagnosis. Crystal, in an interview, said that she hoped people understood that for all his faults, the picture of him cradling his grandchildren at the end was who he truly was.
