Lyrics
See them walking hand in hand
Across the bridge at midnight
Heads turning as the lights flashing out
Are so bright
And walk right out to the four line track
There's a camera rolling on her back
On her back
And I sense a rhythm humming in a frenzy
All the way down her spine
Girls on film
Girls on film
Girls on film
Girls on film
Lipstick cherry all over the lens as she's falling
And miles of sharp blue water coming in
Where she lies
The diving man's coming up for air
'Cause the crowd all love pulling dolly by the hair
By the hair
And she wonders how she ever got here
As she goes under again
Girls on film (two minutes later)
Girls on film
Girls on film (got your picture)
Girls on film
Wider, baby, smile and you've just made a million
Fuses pumping live heat twisting out on a wire
Take one last glimpse into the night
I'm touching close
I'm holding bright
Holding tight
Give me shudders in a whisper
Take me up 'til I'm shooting a star
Girls on film (she's more than a lady)
Girls on film
Girls on film (two minutes later)
Girls on film
Girls on film (see you together)
Girls on film
Girls on film (see you later)
Girls on film
I'm more of a rock/metal guy but John Taylor is easily in my top 10 bassists of all time. The guy just doesn't know what it even means to sit on the root notes, his bass lines are all over the place. His work on Rio is my absolute favorite.
He does a great job with Power Station and Robert Palmer too!
John Taylor was always the sexiest man alive. He won many awards for his beauty as the most fanciable man!
John was like a work of art - dang those cheekbones!
Yes he was , I had him all over my bedroom in 8th grade on !!! Stiil fancy him !!
THIS IS THE ONE. Been obsessed with this since I saw it Xmas Eve 1984 - always makes me breathless when I watch it!!!!!!! So jealous of everyone who was there
This Duran Duran tour in 1984 was the first to use video as part of the live concert. As you see, people went insane
This was at the PEAK of their American dominance in the 80’s!🥰
I've attended their concerts many times and I can confirm their shows were like this... fun, energetic and unforgettable!
Duran Duran. Ahhh the memories. Best band in 80s / 90s for me. Going to see them live this year.
You’ll have to watch the original video off screen to understand why it was banned😏
DD was THE BIGGEST THING in the 80s and always had the best videos. JT’s baselines always cut through and STUCK in your head…to this day, I can pick their songs within moments…
Thanks guys 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
The extended uncensored version
Not Allowed, It's Tarty!🤪
I played soccer with a guy who grew up in the 80s in Coventry near where these guys are from and he absolutely idolised them. Its funny because he's quite a blokey bloke but he was keeping this in the closet until we went to his place for a party. Power to him though for being his honest self. It is so nostalgic and they definitely added something to music that didn't really exist before and hasn't come around again.
They were a PHENOMENON, it was epic.
This is one of my favorite live performances of theirs. It's 🔥
Me too! Roger is banging away and sexy as hell!
Much of the Live footage was filmed in Toronto... two of my high school friends are seen 4:45 ska dancing in the rafters... what a concert! It was also used in the video for The Reflex !
You should watch their long form “explicit” official video for Girls on Film.
With sumotori
Andy in the guitars give them the rock's touch.
I EFFING Love Them!!!!!
Girls On Film is a song about the exploitation of models. The song was written before Duran Duran was famous enough to date models. The models came a couple of years later. The band was known locally in Birmingham, England but not to the degree of their fame they achieved globally after getting a record deal.
The original filmclip had a lot of topless models in it though.
@@zoeherriot And?
I grew up with 80's music so I'm probably biased but I genuinely think there was no better decade for music. The singers , groups and videos were on another level. I don't know if you've already done it but The Sun Always Shines On TV by Ah-ha is a fantastic song with possibly the best intro ever. Keep up the great work. I love your enthusiasm for music.
At This time Britain was in Creative overdrive the talent pumping out was insane.
Britain always bats above its weight creatively 🇬🇧❤️
That's taken from a gig they did in Oakland California circa 1984,oh to have been there to experience it.
Obsessed with Duran Duran growing up as most girls were, of course I was supposed to marry John Taylor, but that never panned out 😝. Anyway, as most girls were, I was completely obsessed with John Taylor back then we actually put posters on our walls. I don’t know if kids do that nowadays, but we did my entire room was covered in posters of Duran Duran, Adam Ant and Prince! Those were my three main obsessions. I kind of laugh thinking about it now because I’m 53 years old and have a 14-year-old daughter but those were fun times!
The video to this, especially the extended versions are quite something. Introduced me to the wonders of the female form. I was about 15 when released.. haha
Have you checked out John Taylor in Power Station? With DDs Andy Taylor, Robert Palmer, and Chic drummer Tony Thompson? Bang a Gong.
The Power Station was an awesome supergroup. I hope they read your suggestion & check them out on this channel.
In 1987 , I saw Duran Duran in Montpellier . France.
Saw them in concert here in Melbourne early eighties, teeny bopper central!!
BOOM BOOM BOOM TA-TA’s!!! ❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊 Love ur work!!!
John Taylor was the bass baby !!! You guys need to watch for your own enjoyment Sing Blue Silver and Dancing on the Valentine . They are both concert videos that will show you how huge they were.
It was great to be a teenager when they were super popular. OMG I was so in love with them. Simon is hot as hell, but the drummer, Roger, is the one that I loved the most. MMMM. Have you done their "Wild Boys" or "Save A Prayer"? If not, you should
Super energetic performance!
The song's original video was never X-rated. I don't know why people keep saying this. If they've actually watched the video this would not be their conclusion. Girls On Film (Jul '81) was not their 2nd single. It was their 3rd and final single from their debut album titled, "Duran Duran" (Jun '81). Duran Duran's 1st single was Planet Earth (Feb '81) and their 2nd single was Careless Memories (Apr '81).
Yeah, it wasn't x-rated, but there were a lot of titties in it.
Not a dry seat in the house!
Wadda i know im old as dirt. Id go see em now.
'And she wonders how she ever got here as she goes under again.'
Oh yes oh yes Duran Duran do now how to party 🎉🎉🎉they are wow wow wow wow wow wow bloody brilliant awesome amazing epic live omg omg 😱😳 I'll be going to see um again 29th April Manchester UK then London UK and then Birmingham uk wow wow wow 🎉🎉they are totally awesome amazing 👍🤩 live 73 times seeing this awesome amazing band 👍👌 fantastic 🎉🎉🎉
I have never seen so much fear and embarrassment on a man's face as here from minute 6-43 to 6-56! 😂😂😂😂
... I may or may not be agreeing with you, on the grounds that anything I say could be used against me... LOLOL
40 years ago hated em. Glad you guys did it, takes me back and compared to music now it sounds good.
Duran Duran was BIG in the 80‘s
Simón levon ..churrisimo.!! Adoro a Duan Duran
John Taylor put up some great videos during covid explaining how he came up with and plays the baselines on several DD hits. check em out
Slap intercoursing bass
Id fight someone to be that tambourine!
watch the arena concert by Duran Duran
It was never 'X-rated', it's actually nothing to get excited about.
Great band!
Cheers!
You are right. A lot of assumptions & posts about the original video being X-rated throughout RUclips. The original video was made for American dance clubs only. It has some nudity & some provocative scenes but nothing classified as X-rated.
Not my thing, but they were loved by many. I need that Frank Marino live, at the Agoura Theater, it's begun to rain. Or somethings coming our way
_Is this woman on something - she is super hyper!_
Ah, The Days when Bands Were Bands Performing Thier Own Hard Work Aye, Shame Millenials have'nt a Clue what Honest Hard Work Is n just listen to any old Shite n think its about them??? Go Go Duran👍👍👍
C'mon Matt. Duran Duran's Girls On Film video was never X-rated- this is laughable. The video was made for American dance clubs so people could see the band while on the dance floor. It does have some female nudity & a couple of provocative scenes but X-rated? Not even. Some of the nudity & provocative scenes were the ideas of Duran Duran's managers at the time, the Berrow brothers. They wanted to create a buzz w/the American audience to help Duran Duran break into the American music market.
The video was directed by former 10CC band members Kevin Godley & Lol Creme (Godley & Creme) known for their songs such as I'm Not In Love, Things We Do For Love & Dreadlock Holiday. Godley & Creme also directed the following videos: A View To A Kill (Duran Duran); Every Breath You Take (The Police); Don't Give Up (Peter Gabriel feat. Kate Bush) & even directed their classic video of their own song called Cry as Godley & Creme.
Girls on Film was filmed in the spring/summer of 1981 & released in July 1981. MTV was introduced to the American audience on August 1, 1981, which hardly anyone knew about. (No one thought MTV would last at the time.) The video uses Duran Duran's Girls On Film (Night Version), which is an extended dance version of the song. (There are two Night Versions as an FYI.) Eventually, Duran Duran's record company wanted Girls On Film to be aired on MTV but Godley & Creme would have to edit the video & use the (shorter) single version of the song for the edited version for MTV & TV viewing. The original video was never intended for TV viewing or release.
Why is her face red
Also i gotz to appreciate they really werent cock rock metal.
New Metallica Screaming suicide.
Does she not look in a mirror and know to make up on half of her face is same colour as her shirt specially by her hair
Damn, did Simon always sound that bad live?
He can sound amazing live. An arena tour does tend to stress the vocal cords night after night.
Pretty sure this was the final show of the (very long) tour and, at the very least, it was the final song of the show (the encore), so his vocals were definitely fried by that point.
You try running around for 2 hours like that!! And NO AUTO TUNE. I love they don’t try to make it ‘perfect’ - WYSIWYG
John Taylor, awesome bassist. Simon LeBon cringe, never a great singer
... he's quite capable of singing VERY well... but in the 1980's you either jump around, express excitement and belt out tunes to an energetic LIVE crowd... OR... you can stand in one spot and vocalize to a professionally attuned static vocal microphone in a recording studio.. this is a LIVE show!
Leave Simon alone!
