The work ended up outsourced to recording facilities in the Czech Republic and Poland. Game of Thrones is scored and recorded in Czech Republic.

Something similar happened to Air Studios in London. I think the problem was about some "redevelopment work for a private property" bullshit. When the British government heard about this, they reacted promptly by making the whole building a British Heritage Site and BOOM, nobody or any company could touch or destroy that place. Great Success!

"... and if they're going out of the country, they're not using AF musicians at all."
James, James... I hate to bust your bubble, but the out-of-state musicians that form ensembles like the Northwest Sinfonia aren't part of the AFM.
That said, it's sad to hear Todd-AO shut down. But there are more than two recording studios in L.A. (other than Sony and Fox Newman) -- the Eastwood Scoring Stage at WB and Capitol Records.

The scoring stage at Capitol Records is small by comparison. Todd-AO closed because of money problems. The closure, as the fascists at some webpage would argue, had nothing to do with the AMF management.

How ironic, hearing people who's business practices caused the loss of work in Los Angeles to begin with opining the loss of another stage because to them. Dennis? Sandy? Phil?... please. They put the nails in the coffin of all but the last 2 stages left. But as long as they get those July checks, right? Talk about hypocrites.

Oh people don't realize what slime these people are. Imagine a musician that plays circles around most of his peers and strongly recommended just to have a huge LA contractor say, "We don't CARE how he plays!!!"
