I attended CIM with him and you're absolutely right. He was very humble and always helpful with his advice. Fame couldn't have happened to a better person, honestly.
In 2022, he is the best now performing. His touch is unmatched, his virtuosity astounding and equal to anything. I just heard him perform Tchaikovsky's Children's Album and Gaspard de la Nuit in the same program. I like the French word 'etonnant' to describe that recital. No one plays as broad a repertoire with such a broad scale of feeling from fragile to insensate ferocity and back again. He is brilliant.
Daniil is so unbelievably humble that it is difficult to embrace the concept in the world we live in today. The concept seems so isolated from our reality. I would love to meet his parents in order to find out how they raised such a fabulous son. I am personally hooked on his music.
saw Daniil in Toronto a few years ago doing Rach's 3rd and it was absolutely amazing to watch and listen to. I think he got about a 10 min standing ovation. Daniil is arguably the best concert pianist on the planet.
Que hermoso diálogo surge de este intercambio en dos idiomas. Gracias por tener la oportunidad de disfrutar de este diálogo memorable.
I’m Daniil big fan since I hear him playing the first time an it was just when he won this great competition. He grew up a lot since then. Now, ten years later, I continue to search for his videos and always stay very much impressed how he assumed to be a performer and not one pianist more.Maybe he will grow up just like a new Glenn Gould. May God help him to get that heights. Recently heard him performing Bach’s Art of Fugue. Really outstanding.
Ok so this is from 2011 and I'm assuming he was 20 back then. He began studying at the age of 5. That means he'd been playing for 15 years here. Given that he definitely had previous experience with Chopin, it's understandable that he'd learn pieces very easily. I'm not playing it down in any way. If anything it's impressive the amount of effort he has put into this instrument. But you have to put things into perspective. He hasn't been fucking around with the piano. If you're serious about learning the piano, my tip is play everyday. I haven't played for long but I feel like that's been the most impactful habit for me.
Hartmut Wendland: Well, in that case, he meant "you started your conversation with yourself." This is what "conversations with God" amount to. We - the human race - need to get over this superstitious nonsense inherited from our ignorant forefathers. Trifonov sat at the piano and he began to play. That's what happened. Very beautiful, no doubt, but no magical father figures necessary.

Trifonov è il vero erede di Richter : stessa intelligenza nel comprendere il senso di un pezzo, stessa capacità interpretativa, stesso tocco. Bravissimo.

Frankly speaking, I'm utterly amazed by the sheer arrogance of 'sixkatz' and '1Thompsonmusic'. What gives you the right to judge this exciting young Russian pianist? Has either of you heard him live? I had the great privilege of listening to a live Chopin performance in Valdemossa, Mallorca last month. I dare not allow myself to judge his playing, but I'm convinced that the future of Daniil is more than bright and wish him continued success!

Amazing how 1person could win the Tchaikovsky Competition and the Rubenstein Competition in the same year! The only who could do that is Danill! Notice, in this interview, how he is so humble and a little awkward with his words. Interviews are not Danill's strong point. He has a piano attached to his fingers all the time. Words are not his strength.
Odd, Trifonov has such flexible fingers - reminds me of Horowitz's hands - and I know that he is playing delicately...but the Brahms piece at the very end sounds a bit harsh. Can't be. I think the recording equipment was set up wrong. I want to listen to Trifonov on professional studio recordings and see if delicacy prevails. I think the recording of the competition was bad. Is that what you mean by so distorted?
no, no, no. Please somebody explains to me. Did he say he just learnt chopin etudes 2 months before competition and scarlati two weeks before competition?....How? Is it possible or Is he lying?,,sorry if my english is not good...

It is a regrettably political plug to ask whether it was Israel that drew him...if the competition were held in Saudi Arabia or Shanghai he still would have gone. With that said this is clearly an Isreali show, and while it is a nationalist gaffe to frame the question that way it is a marketing tactic to appeal to pride which is also done all the time in the U.S. as well. Trifonov dodged the bullet with grace and the interviewer let him off the hook, fortunately.

Great interview and wonderful spirits
my favorite performer!!!!
Tifonov der Herzöffner, opening the hearts of the audience....
I like how his fingers 'reach' for the sound and not the whole hand. Each . . . individually. And they float over the keys.
Cool when he leans in and has his eyes close to the keyboard . . . seeing . . . feeling . . . hearing the sound. A kind of total experience.
