Hey guys - Jim wanted me to make a quick mention that he referred to himself as the "Brand Owner" a few times which was an accident - he is the Brand Manager for Dixon. These things happen when you are in the hot seat :) Thank you for watching!
Gregg Bissonette definitely comes to mind... but hearing the history of this brand is way cool. Thanks! It takes a lot to stay relevant, so they must appreciate their craft!
Excellent stuff, Jim! I’m proud to be a member of the Dixon family….and absolutely love my custom Artisan kit. High quality instruments with an amazing choice of finishes (best in the market imo). Looking forward to a long association with this amazing drum company.
Well done Jim and Bart . What a great and fantastic interview about our beautiful drums 🥁 💙 Sending you both a lots of positive drum vibes from the The Netherlands. All the best fron The Flying Dutchman International Dixon artist from Holland 🇳🇱 💙🙏🏻xx René Barthen
Posted comment using the wrong user name: I had a Dixon chrome rack with all the fittings (it was brilliant). for my Pearl Drum X then it was traded in for a Percussion Plus shell kit in Wine Red. I had 22" x 16" kick, 16" x 16" floor tom an 12" x 10" an 13" x 11" power toms. All were double headed. The kit looked stunning in Wine Red. I already had the snare, rack, cymbals an stands, and drum throne, to complete the kit. Later on I added some 8" x 10" an 10" x 12" power toms (double headed) on a separate stand. Initially they were fitted with cheap heads. Once I tuned an changed them to Premier black drum heads (as they tended to get dented during playing). This dampened them down, providing a dryer an deeper sound. Now with the correct tuning, it no longer sounded like a budget kit (it's original intention by the maker). The heads were eventually swapped out for Pearl Black Beats. It then started to develop into a power rock kit. So Dixon help me turn my kit into powerful multi tom kit.
7 minutes in….( I worked in sales for half my life)… this gentleman uses words like “economical and high quality” in the same sentence. He’s definitely the Final Boss of Marketing or Branding.
Thank you for this. I have a mid-level priced (but pro quality) Pearl kit that was made in Taiwan. Would bet Dixon's parent company built the kit, which is perfectly fine with me. I'm going to start keeping my future drum purchase eye on Dixon.
My pleasure, thanks for watching. I got a Dixon Little Roomer kit a few months back and I am extremely impressed. I can only imagine how good the higher end kits are
Dixon stuff flies under the radar, but it's really innovative. Looking at the Little Roomer bass, which is a good deal for what it is. Jim seems _very_ nervous here!
I had a white Dixon myself. Guy ripped me off because I had no idea what I was buying. It was a community kit that ended up in Indiana from Tennessee. It had Camber cymbals with it. Lol
Out of curiosity does anyone know how anyone can prove there are less acoustic drummers now compared to other times? Looking at the # of drumming related pages on Instagram tells a different story.
Wait a minute. I had a Dixie drum kit in the 60's. In the early 70's met a kid who had a Dixon snare and I tried telling him he had a Dixie snare. I was wrong. What's the deal with they started in 79? Did this version of Dixon buy the name, drop the mentioning of the history, re-birth of the name or what? Dixon is even listed in the Japanese drums of the 50's and 60's which includes drums from Taiwan. But, Tama and Pearl were OEM shell makers for many different Asian drum companies at that time.

Awesome interview. 2nd time I'm watching this.
I'm so happy to be part of the Dixon Drums family

Thanks Spencer!

Love my Dixon cornerstone maple kit!!! Extremely impressed with this kit and the company
Absolutely, Dixon is great

As someone who builds drums on a very small scale, it's cool to see the history of one of the biggest names in drum manufacturing. Thanks Bart
Thanks for listening!

Indeed he is!

@@DrumHistoryPodcast Yep, from what I've seen on YT they are outstanding.

I do not see the Dixon drumracks on their site, do they still offer those? And did Dixon also made them for Gibraltar? Great podcast Bart!
Apparently not, I had one with all the fittings.
Wow love this... Optimal

I love my dixon drum rack
Dixon is great. I have had a Little Roomer kit for a few months now and it is awesome

What brand did Gregg play before Dixon?
Mapex?
I think Slingerland at some point
He was a long time Pearl endorsee from the DLR days. I'm not sure when he left them.
Wouldn't say no to a Piano Black Cornerstone kit
