This looks beautiful. An HD remake done with the original pixel art which helps it stay true and authentic to the original - BUT LOOK BEAUTIFUL! I will be picking this up physical in May.

The sprite work is just stupendous. It’s games like that these that you just gotta take a moment and take in on all the effort went into these graphical sprite design.

Love this old school cute em up and will definitely be grabbing this. I’m still hoping for a new Twin Bee game or Parodius might appear on Switch someday.

I'm super excited to play this one here soon. The original was one of my favorite games on the SNES and selling my childhood copy is one of my big gaming regrets. Not just because it goes for a few hundo now and I probably got like $20 for it circa 2008, but because I gave up a part of my childhood that now can't be replaced without plunking down some SERIOUS cash... At least I still have some of my other childhood treasures like Super Metroid and Kirby's Dreamland 3.
I have an import physical copy coming in any day now and I can't wait. I doubted it would get a physical release in North America, so I decided to hedge my bets.
I got this game a few days ago for about $10 on Amazon. It's great! So much oldschool fun.

Nice Review. I hate to hear about the news, and I wish you the very best. In my world of arcade style titles being AAA titles, this is the sort of game that may compete for a personal game of the year. These are made by Natsume Atari/Tengo Project and are in the same vein of the Wild Guns and Ninja Warriors SNES remasters. Those games instantly became the glorious definitive versions. This game looks no different. I have already ordered the Japan physical from Play Asia. I truly appreciate what you do, and again all the best.

I dont have a Seitch but I always watch Switch reviews, esp 2D arcade like games and then hoping theyll cone on XBS - and this game did :)
Huge Fan of Pocky & Rocky and have both copies on the Super Nintendo.
I preordered my copy with play Asia last month and hopefully it will arrive this week.

Also if they added a simple strafe lock to a trigger button, it would have truly transformed the game.
I still like it a lot however.
One thing I can not get working is the sort of lock aim with repeatedly tapping the attack button. I have turbo on my switch with the hori split pad pro and it still doesn't work. Does this come later in the game Jordan? Right now I have only played for 10 or so minutes and died a lot LOL.
In the story mode you get it in the third level I think
This is my favortite SNES game. I have the Japanese version (cart/booklet/box) in a display cabinet. I am here watching this as my Bestie just surpricsed me by buying me the Japanese version of this! I am so stoked! I saw the Racoon plushie in the vid, I hope to get my hands on one!! I love Kiki KaiKai!! :)
I hope they'll remake Pocky & Rocky 2 next. This looks amazing

I preordered this physical the moment I heard about it. I absolutely love the SNES Pocky & Rocky. Never beat it, mind you, but that's fine lol It's one of the few games I still bust out my old SNES to play every once in a while
The original is rather tough however this one is a bit easier on the standard difficulty. There’s a mid-level checkpoint and more power ups
This release completes the Natsume Remake Trilogy which also includes Wild Guns and Ninja Warriors. All of the remakes are the superior versions to own.
I was contemplating which region version to get for Pocky & Rocky and hadn't even considered censorship until you mentioned it. Play Asia import it is. =)

Is the censoring just the cleavage basically? Or is it other more substantial things in the game? If it's mainly the cleavage, then I don't care. I'm not a 24-hour horny teenage anymore. LoL. I went ahead and pre-ordered both PS4 and Switch version from Gamestop.

Wild guns, Ninja Saviors, Pocky and Rocky. All gorgeous remakes.

After the Chrono Cross Radical Dreamers disaster it's big relief to see a classic remastered in a far more thoughtful way.

2:39: Those are not cards, though. They are most likely ofuda. Paper slips that are commonly used as talismans, e.g. to ban ghosts, which would align with Pocky obviously being a shinto priestess.

The censorship on the western release is really leading me towards either importing this or getting it from the japanese eshop.
Up to you if cleavage is important to you. (It’s important to me 😏)
I find it interesting that you mention that the digital version is "too expensive" multiple times, while also asking the viewers to use promo codes to support your channel.
I personally will be buying the game Physically & Digitally to support the devs and insure that more awesome games like this, that rely on fan support, get made.
I'd rather buy this twice at $30 ea than some yearly disposable junk like Call of Duty once at $60.
I think I made the point fairly clear. Physical always offers more value over digital. I also pointed out that there’s a western physical coming (differing variations too) in the near future. I didn’t push the affiliate earnings version very much outside the obviously better box art.

I happily use the affiliate code to repay Jordan for his work and because Playasia is a great and friendly company. Pam is a cutie! I can't believe she runs the whole company. Besides...Jordan's little girl needs ice creams!
@@SwitchWatch I'm not being critical and love what you guys do. It's all good. In general terms, I also feel that digital versions should sell for less than physical. But in cases like this, where we're being blessed with something that probably almost didn't get made, I'm fine with paying a few bucks more to help out the devs & publisher.
Natsume has a fun habit of remaking Super NES games that SEEM the same as the originals at first blush, but turn out to be a lot prettier and a lot more nuanced than they were in the 1990s. The NinjaWarriors is the same way, with sharper graphics and more attacks for your android ninjas.
They do a great job with these remakes

This game is a time-traveling SEQUEL! Not a remake!
The “original” game is “The Mysterious Black Mantle”. This new game is “The Mystery of Black Mantle”. It also explains the origins of the Black Mantle itself.
One of my fav snes games. Pre ordered the play Asia version of this as soon as I seen it. Didn’t even bother to look into it. Was just a must , lots of nostalgia. After watching this Jordan I am hyped to give it a play now.. lol and I have the boobies version! Even better.

I don't think its a remake. I think its a sequel with similar locals in the same way that a link between worlds is held in the same world/environment, but its a different game. even from the trailer and your own game play, there are major differences and lots of new stuff

04:12 wow thanks for pointing that out! So you played the game all the way through on Standard Difficulty and ended up with about 800 coins but you need 3,000 coins to unlock Easy mode? That means you'd need to complete the game about 4 times on Standard to unlock Easy? That is completely illogical and ridiculous... Why on earth would anyone want to unlock Easy if they have already completed the game 4 times on Standard? That makes this game a definite "no" for me! I loved this game back when it came out on SNES but could never get more than halfway through it - I was hoping this would offer me a chance to complete it but clearly not.
Some said its a direct sequel to Pocky Rocky 2.
Then again, who cares. This is such an awesome remake . Must buy.

@@SwitchWatch only the first three stages are the same but then it'a a entirely new game. The developers confirmed too that this is a brandnew game in the series. You could say Pocky & Rocky 3.

Had the SNES game. Bought it cheap, think I sold it quite cheap too. 300 dollars for a retro game with box isn't unusual if it's a rarer title, but getting it without box shouldn't be too hard, nor expensive. Although, expensive depends on what you compare with...retro consoles and games are a luxury.

Compared to what the Snes game goes for, this is a steal. And it looks to be the best version from everything I've seen. I'd pay $60 and honestly still feel I got my money's worth.
