They are amazing. I wish there as an interview of just them talking to each other. She barely signs anything to him and he represents her so colorfully and accurately. I would love to hear them talk about it!!
@@jungle.jezebel he was with her back when she won her Academy Award. As for her signing, he definitely fills it in. She'll sign something like "I go store later" and he'll fill it out to "I'm going to go to the store later"
I've heard he is a CODA (child of deaf adults) so ASL would be his native language (bilingual with English). But I mean yeah professional interpreters do their job well. ~:~
He's literally a professional interpreter.. I literally don't get why you people give interpreters such little credit. It's their job to interpret the emotion, the speed, the passion, and everything in what's being signed.
I love Marlee. I didn't really watch any of her movies or shows until I saw her on The L Word and then started watching more of her stuff and interviews and performances. She seems so down to Earth and lovely and I am so happy that she's been able to have a successful career as a deaf actress. I have an aunt who is mostly deaf, about 70%, and Marlee reminds me of her because she's never let this "handicap" affect how successful she could be and didn't let anyone else treat her any differently than hearing people.
I do appreciate how the camera stays focused on the two of them, and doesn't focus on the interpreter. A lot of interviews with deaf people inadvertantly focus on the interpreters instead of the deaf person, but they put him in frame here and there, but never make him the focus. He's so great, though, I love how colorful and expressive he is as her voice.
I also like that they gave Ms. Matlin ample time to read the interpreter's signs & then respond to the question. Usually, they ask a question so fast that the interpreter hasn't even finished signing the 1st question & the interviewer is asking the 2nd question.
When I was watching "Switched At Birth", I remember thinking that Marlee Matlin looked very familiar to me and couldn’t figure out why. I then looked her up and found out that when I was little, I had seen her on "Blue’s Clues." I remembered that it was an episode where Steve goes to the library and there she was. In that episode, Marlee shows us the sign for library. I remember her making the letter "L" with her hand and moving it in a circular motion. I still can’t believe that was her all this time. 🤟🏽
Completely agree. I love hearing Marlee speak. It's really interesting to learn she speaks clearly in her sleep. I can only imagine what that first moment must have been like for her husband.
Becki Green yes, exactly. I can't imagine it not being distracting to Marlee to have to watch the sign language from her actual interpreter, next to the waving and incorrect signing of the hands right next to his. I am sure it came from a good place, and she was just trying to make her questions more clear to Marlee, but it was very distracting.
Conner McIntosh I mean it it is her fault. She knew that she was going to be interviewing a Deaf actor. She could have done her research about deaf culture so she didn’t sound so ignorant. There are ample resources out there.
+Aubren Lewis Marlee is very fond of making fun of deafness. She does it all the time, and it makes people more comfortable to do it too instead of treating as some taboo subject.
For anyone who doesn't know ASL--check out how the interpreter essentially does all of his signs one handed. That such a casual/buddy-buddy way of signing.
I saw that. I was wondering how he was getting across all the words & letters with just one hand. Is it possible to be totally 'clear' in your interpretations with just one hand?
People hating on the interviewer but can’t understand her actions, she actually wants to get into Marlee’s universe, to break that language barrier, she wants to be with her and not only talk to the interpreter!
the interviewer talks with her hands in the other videos too, but i can’t believe no one on her staff told her to tone it down a little for this interview. i’m getting second hand embarrassment😅
omg i dont know why, but when she speaks , a huge smile appears on my face. i love deaf people so much. watching switched at birth i dont know why i am so attracted to the show but i have this fetish for deaf people. its crazy but i can just look at there beautifulness all day and hear them talk.
i knew that she played a deaf person on switched at birth but i didnt know that she was actually literally deaf in real life that was pretty surprising to know.
Oh god!! get awoke. she's deaf!! have you not seen her on TV? she'd always be playing a deaf person; if it were only an act; as all her interviews, are as a deaf person, duh.
I could see the creator whoever he might be, think to himself, well I created something so beautiful both inside and outside of a person, it's only fair to take a little bit from her.
I don't like when people wave their hands around when they're talking in general but if you're doing that while you're talking to someone who depends on the shapes of your hands, just... What the actual everloving heck is wrong with you?
she's had this interpreter for like 30 yrs, pretty cool
They are amazing. I wish there as an interview of just them talking to each other. She barely signs anything to him and he represents her so colorfully and accurately. I would love to hear them talk about it!!
The same interpreter
This is an amazing interpreter, they are intune, and have fabulous chemistry

Dang, its crazy how well this guy can keep up. He's basically in sync and he captures all her emotion. I'm super impressed.
He's been her interpreter since 1985

I love the pink in her hair, and her shoes 💕💜
Huge respect for the interpreter
That is super spooky about her speaking normally in her sleep while she was pregnant! So spiritual!
Yes it is wow 😮
I love Marlee. She’s super talented and has a lot of spunk. She’s so bold and charismatic.
Even though she said she can only hear 20 percent she speaks well and she's a great actress.
I totally agree and the PINK IS AWESOME! Her role as a mother in Switched at Birth was also fantastic in each season.

If I could push the (thumbs up, or like button 100 times) I would Marlee Matlin is beautiful!and a great role model for the deaf culture!

I love your hair, Marlee Matlin! :)
I'm diggin her shoes
One of the best actress in the industry
Am I the only one who thinks the deaf "accent" is really pretty?
Completely agree. I love hearing Marlee speak. It's really interesting to learn she speaks clearly in her sleep. I can only imagine what that first moment must have been like for her husband.
I wish the interviewer would stop waving her hands around, it's distracting.
Yeah I wasn't sure if she was trying to sign or what ! If so she needs more practice !

@@fussyrussy1963 She wasn't signing.. she was just talking with her hands lol Hearing people do that a LOT.
It’s how she is. Get over it.
She's absolutely adorable and I love her
The interviewer is getting on my nerves ugh. I just have to keep reminding myself it's not her fault she doesn't know anything about deaf culture.
Conner McIntosh I mean it it is her fault. She knew that she was going to be interviewing a Deaf actor. She could have done her research about deaf culture so she didn’t sound so ignorant. There are ample resources out there.
She really fuckin said “your probably not even deaf” like how rude is that🤨
Yup. The super slow talking, right?
wow! this is the most tearful joyful amazing interview i'ever seen!
I can't believe she said "not even deaf"...

AubrentheJack she isn't deaf
@@bobcoleman9045 Yeah she is
Bob Coleman Not completely. I think she said she has a small percentage of hearing when a truck came by and she heard it...
@@chlobosumm4 shes still deaf tho. you can still have a small amount of hearing and be considered deaf
This chick rlly said “your prolly not even deaf” like how tf rude is that...who does thst🤨😠
She rolled with it though, shows she has a sense humor about it
I know she was trying to be funny, but it came out awkward and cringey. I’m sure she regretted saying it right after.
Cat: "Wake up!"
Gracie: "Huh? What?!"
Lol!!!
Is it just me or does Marlee vaguely remind you of Julia Roberts?
@BERTOLLI and small hats
Matlin is prettier. She has an inner glow that just exudes from her. I love her grey eyes- so expressive.
no
She’s a better actor than Julia Roberts.
Yesss I’ve been thinking that too
She is so beautiful!
That dog is really Stealing her thunder, so chubbs and cute
I freaking love and adore Marlee
That dog is everything!!!
Love her so much!!
The color of Marlee's shoes are amazing! I don't know if I would wear them, but are they nice.
I want to watch spring awakening
Great interview, Ms. Matlin, and Ms. Greenleaf!
I liked her a lots! Good woman with her family.
broke my heart.
She's so awesome, I love her ;)
This woman waves her hands so much that I sometimes thought she was a interpreter.
Wow I love her hair!!!
I have severe tinnitus in my right ear; I play the "deaf card" all the time!
great actress in Law & Order SVU
How adorable can she be? :D
I want to see Marlee Matlin on NCIS it would be great to see her with Mark Harmon again
This was awesome!
I love her pink hair!!!
She is so Cute !

She did really good work from Blue’s clues
Does anybody know what trash did Marlee communicated to her interpreter in 1:52?
what about cat's shoes? are they like, a 7 inch heel with a 3 inch platform? crazy!!
Marlee is gorgeous!
Q. How come the people who interview Marlee never ask her what it was like to work with the cast of legal bagel? .It was a series about a deaf lawyer.
the interviewer talks with her hands in the other videos too, but i can’t believe no one on her staff told her to tone it down a little for this interview. i’m getting second hand embarrassment😅

Don't say this to a Deaf person, that's wildly offensive.

She is and always has been my favorite actress of all time!!! 🥰🥰💯💯💯💯💖💖💖💖
Marlee is hilariously funny. It amazes me why Children of a lesser god did not explore Marlee's fun, sunny nature.
It's a drama. Great movie as well.
There are so many things you can talk to Molly about why spend the whole interview talking about being deaf 🤷🏽♀️ then say you're probably not deaf
Cat; is soo hot and plain looking at the same time.
Here from family guy
She's cool!
today i found out this human being existed in the world
Thanks youtube
How does she know how to pronounce words when she is deaf? Its quite interesting
What if a oral speaking actor or actress gets a cold an can't deliver their lines?
PX Xaver It's a valid question. Actors have insurance for that. Beyoncé legs are insured for millions.
They can also sign with their other hand. :)
momentarily losing your voice is not the same as "losing a finger" when you speak with your hands lol.
Ironhide I know but in the acting business it's maybe like hurting your finger..
