    So does this mean I have to go out and buy a Jeep so I can use the Riv nut on it?

    I've watched 5 of these videos and each one they jus drill to some random point and say oop it's done. Well do you know it's done. Does it pop? Like how do I know it's done or I dont go to far.

      I'm about to tackle this with their hardware, I assume it just tightens enough that you know it's set. Did you ever do this yourself?

      @@longhorn8459 tried to do it for new fenders on my Jeep JK, ended up taking my thumb's nail off cause of the wrenches slipped, lol... it's tough.

    Great demo! Which is better to use? Impact driver or regular drill driver? What torque level did you set on your drill? Where do you buy those small washers?

    • @GenRightOffRoad
      @GenRightOffRoad  2 года назад

      Neither, you want to do it by hand. If you compress the rivenut too fast it tends skew it and you end up with a bad seat. We get most of our hardware from mcmaster.

      @@GenRightOffRoad So, in the video the guy uses a drill. Yet you are saying not to use a drill? Or not to use an impact?

    Anyway to get the rivnuts back out? All the rivnuts on one fender are spinning with the bolts stuck in them from being old. Just bought the jeep and want to put new fenders on.

    • @GenRightOffRoad
      @GenRightOffRoad  Год назад

      Most the time you need to grind the head off of them if they will not pull out with a bolt on them. It is important to make sure you set them all the way when installing them.

    • @oaksho
      @oaksho 9 месяцев назад

      Better to just drill them out

    What type of rivnuts are recommended for something like this? Steel or aluminum?

    • @GenRightOffRoad
      @GenRightOffRoad  3 года назад +2

      All of the rivnuts we use in our builds are steel.

      Video popped up as a related topic, so figured I'd watch... To answer your question and others, stick with steel or the steel coated ones. I use these by the box at work and have learned this. Stainless seems the wise choice, IT'S STAINLESS and wont rust. Downside, very brittle and breaks quite easily. Nothing wore than drilling out a new install. Aluminum... exact opposite (soft material) but with the same result as the SS, only easier to drill out.... Pro tip>> add a bit of silicone before inserting to get a water tight "O ring" behind the flange.

    Is there a way to avoid the potential issue of the rivnut “spinning” in the hole after it’s installed?

    • @GenRightOffRoad
      @GenRightOffRoad  2 года назад +1

      The best way is to make sure you get it tight enough during the initial install and do not over tighten the bolts going into it.
