I noticed that, it's probably similar to how Viego shows up as whoever he's transformed into I've never played into enough Sylases to know if that's common though
I feel like every time I face Sylas he goes 0/3 in lane then starts oneshotting every squishy with just a lost chapter and gets to 15 kills before 20 minutes.
Something I think that's better to do with Sylas is max your q first rather than your w. I think the amount of damage your q does, especially early, outclasses the healing your w can give, which it admittedly doesn't heal that much. And if they are to build antiheal this would be an even better idea.
It's mostly to gap close honestly. I do think there's merit when you're in a high cc comp and you can guarantee the q pop damage, but the mobility and guaranteed damage is the strength of W and E max first.
