Had this guitar since summer 2010. It's my pride and joy, absolutely love it! I got a better bridge and changed the pick guard to an off white, totally aesthetic changes, and it's my baby! Great guitar, wonderfully comfortable to play. Two gripes, and two only! The volume is a little low most times, unless set up perfectly by a local luthier, but fix the bridge and that's no longer an issue, I'm just not brave enough to ruin the finish! And secondly, the case lasted only about a year!
Picked one up yesterday and couldn't put it down, absolutely beautiful to play, I love the lightness and it is esthetically appealing as well. Definitely the next addition to my collection, I cant wait to bring it home!!!
LISTEN UP! I went playing affordable hollow bodies all day today. Hagstrom 550 with mini humbucker was very much like a Johnny Smith. Loved it!!! Epi Joe Pass had CHEAP pots as Epis do. Very "meh". Ibanez Artcore AG95 was sweet and versatile. Ibanez PM35 was just as nice and more beautiful. Godin 5th Ave (cutaway) was the most humble looking and the most pricey but also BLEW ME AWAY!!! Classic dark, mellow jazz tones to chicken pickin' to gritty blues. I have to find the extra dough!!!
Sylvain Luc plays this guitar... and he is better than ALL of us guitarists commenting on this video together! See some videos of him play it and you 'll see how it sounds at the hands of a true master.... it is not a Benedetto, but it's a perfect archtop for it's price.
Hi there, I am hearing lots of great stuff about this model and I'm seriously thinking of buying one (I love Godin...I have a couple of their discontinued electrics which are both immense). So since you have one, can you tell me about the resonance of the instrument acoustically and do you think it is a good guitar to make the transition from electric? Is it a good lead acoustic? Thanks for your time :)
All in all, I enjoyed the review. Succinct & to the point. I would have like to have heard some more guitar. Perhaps a longer review in the future? Again, very informative.
@mattastic0 i think youre right. hmmm . . . gotta kick in some coupons. Still worth it I think. Ive decided to wait a couple of weeks before a possible purchase.
The latches holding the case together, not the ones shown here, wore out and eventually came apart, with them basically being thin plastic! Either time to get a new one or a different case, and I may just go for the latter.. But all in all, fantastic guitar with style, class and a real personal feel from the first time you hold it!
he actually got the idea for these tric cases when he saw a car acident in germany, one of the cars was a mercedes benz, which has this material in it's front and rear bumpers, the other car was totaled and the mercedes barely had a fender dent, they tested them by putting guitars in them and throwing them off the top of their factory building xD
@joelg125 I belief guitar center has a 100 off 500 or more right now... seems like a decent time to go for it. i'm considering one but i want to hear it with a little dirty overdrive blues sound from it.
I work in a music store in Eastern Canada and I believe you are right. it is pronounced GO-DAN. Great guitars! this guitar can hold its own against my Gretsch black Falcon, and the Falcon cost 6 times more!!! The falcon is nicer mind you, but for the money the Godin is an amazing Value
She must be tiny, cos it looks huge against her. I love mine cost its smaller than most acoustics, and the arch top shape means its thinner at the edges, making it very comfortable esp when sitting down. Love mine, its the best acoustic I've owned, and the sound plugged and unplugged is beautiful. Plus its just stunning to look at, from all angles, that Canadian cherry is so detailed.
Yea Robert shows off these cases on his factory tour, the guitar only makes contact in like 3 places while the guitar 'gravitates'. They say if as well as being light, you could put a pen whole in it and it will reform, German tech if i remember right. Love my Multiac, love Godin guitars, love Roberts passion. I mean the tone on this model beats the Gibson es175 and they like 3 thousand dollars Long may these amazing guitars be made, even the cheaper models almost feel custom built. Peace&lovin music
@RYANN36 It's fine for blues. Archtops were commonly used for blues and still are. Also, who gives a fuck how you look as long as you're playing what and how you want to.
Ok I'm stuck between getting this Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin P90 (amzn.to/2NR4fyK) or this Godin 5th Avenue CW Electric Guitar (amzn.to/2xfCbLX). If anyone can help me out picking which one to order, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you kindly for this review. I fell in love with the tone of this marvelous instrument...now to make a choice.
Anyone got a link to anyone playing some Folk on one of these, i want one, but it will be for my folk music, not jazz, want to see if thats a good idea or bad.
Worthless review. GREAT guitar. This has quickly become my favorite over my Gibson and two American Fenders. Great vibe, great look, great tone and the workmanship is flawless.
Damnit. I was going to get a solidbody rock guitar and then that'd be all I need for my guitars. I have an ES-335 and it's so versitile that I feel I should only really need 2 guitars.. Now that i've seen this.. At such a nice price.. I might never get a solidbody.. xD
Thanks Gayla, a useful review, and your approval counts. Could have used a little more demo of the tonal range, maybe with two different amps, and a few words of comparison with the competition wouldn't hurt. The guitar looks like a winner.
The thing is, with pronouncing Godin, is that the last syllable is a phoneme inexistant in english. However, the first syllable, exists in english, and is not pronounced the way you do. As it is french canadien, you would pronounce it Gu-din, the international french pronounciation would be Goh-din. In phonetic writing, you would write it this way: gɔːdɛ̃. It is the ɛ̃ that doesn't exist in the english language. gɔː would be pronounced like in Gut. I own a Godin LG and these are great guitars.
I play jazz, blues and rock n roll. no feedback when I play rock n roll. And it doesn't look bizarre or stupid when I play blues or rock n roll with it.
Bexar Brown It looks roughly like an ES-125 clone, so it's bigger than the average solidbody, but my experience with my 125 is that the average archtop doesn't feel all that big or awkward when you're actually playing, especially since a hollowbody is so light!
@ox092 that guitar is made for jazz if you would start playing rock or blues with this one, you would look stupid and if you would play rock you would have a lot of feedback with it and the bridge isn't good for bending the strings, so no it's no good for any other genre except jazz but it is a really goog guitar though
watermelonygoodness There's nothing wrong with the way he's using the word "redundant", I do happen to disagree though - I thought it was a decent review.
I've played one of those. They are pretty hard to play. Maybe the shop didn't take good care of their guitars, but the fingerboard was sticky and the guitar terrible action.
14 years later it's still $799
Beautiful guitar.
Plays just like my old early 1960s Gibson ES125TC. No joke.
The 5th Ave is a steal!

Just bought one of these. So happy with it, i'm off busking around europe and it is perfect!
Can I ask you wich strings are you using on this review ? I like very much this review, thanx for your work.
So the case is bigger on the inside than the outside, is what you were saying ?
Sorry, The Bridge, is floating or just adjustable? I am a Little bit confused with the specifications....

Thanks Gayla Drake Paul! Great review.

Can it handle overdrive?
whats the neck like?
how would you describe the shape?
thanx.

how does this guitar sound unplugged?

how much does it costs?
@joelg125 i think your thinging of the regular godin 5th avenue. its 520 not an electric, this one is 700.
Definitely going to be my next guitar.
Was it? Lol
excuse me, what is that amp? Thank you!
@joelg125 I belief guitar center has a 100 off 500 or more right now... seems like a decent time to go for it. i'm considering one but i want to hear it with a little dirty overdrive blues sound from it.

I agree with the lack of a cutaway being a problem.
A guitar case designed by Doctor Who. I Love It!
Had to check another video for how it actually sounds

Is it "Godan" or "Godin" ?
Excellent review!
Made in Canada.
Don'tcha know
Worthless review. GREAT guitar. This has quickly become my favorite over my Gibson and two American Fenders. Great vibe, great look, great tone and the workmanship is flawless.
Great and very informative video.
Nice review - Thanks!

@rod3067 as feb 2012 it's $520 + $75 for the case. Great deal.
Excellent review.

I have the Ibanez PM35. Love it. But this guitar is next !!!!
Does this use acoustic strings or electric?
An incredibly beautiful instrument, that is quite affordable.
Since the guitar really is vintage looking,I would have liked a vintage looking case instead of an ultramodern one
what? this is bullet proof and light. thats what you want
bought one today. Excellent guitar. The case is extra if you buy this guitar.
nice review
@mattastic0 I will own it since the voices in my head won't stop talking about it !!!
@Beachcrib Made in Canada.
Better than my George Benson Ibanez.
@ox092 no problem XD
great player!
If I buy this guitar, Come case to me?
Did it come with a case then ?
hm...."talk is cheap".......how s the guitar ?
Is it just me or does this guitar look massive?
It's just you. Nice comfy cozy size and no weight. The P90's are brilliant.
Bexar Brown It looks roughly like an ES-125 clone, so it's bigger than the average solidbody, but my experience with my 125 is that the average archtop doesn't feel all that big or awkward when you're actually playing, especially since a hollowbody is so light!
And the Godin's P90 's contain special ass kicking bark that make it both heavy and light at the same time.
+Bexar Brown it is
It's like a slimmer Fender but not as round, more flat like an Ibanez.
Gayla plz be in my band
who cares, lets hear you rock that shit.
Gala Drake Paul
ohhhh i like...
@ox092 that guitar is made for jazz if you would start playing rock or blues with this one, you would look stupid and if you would play rock you would have a lot of feedback with it and the bridge isn't good for bending the strings, so no it's no good for any other genre except jazz but it is a really goog guitar though
CANADA
nice one man,he really shows em off well. Peace
i wish that you're my cool 2nd mother :-)
The Doctor you say
riing riing... riiing riiing... ;)
the only problem with this guitar is... there is not cu away!! what they thinking!!!
ITS GOD-IN
xD
A guitar review with no playing….this might be a first.
*ahem* designed by The Doctor.
Too much talking..play the damn guitar. This review is totally redundant
That word doesn't mean what you think it means.
watermelonygoodness There's nothing wrong with the way he's using the word "redundant", I do happen to disagree though - I thought it was a decent review.
+watermelonygoodness play Stranglehold on it
I disagree, Ryan. There are plenty of videos that demo this guitar. This one reviews it, and tells us plenty, I think.
Ryan...MAGA
LOL!
Terrible presentation. This is like a public broadcast from the 80s, but not in a cool way.
I've played one of those. They are pretty hard to play. Maybe the shop didn't take good care of their guitars, but the fingerboard was sticky and the guitar terrible action.
Guitar sounds like a tin can being kicked down the streeet!!!
