I love watching americans and canadians react to UK bands, especially some so distinctively British as Hacktivist. Totally get both the appeal and the difficulties in getting used to grime elements etc but love seeing them getting attention. Some amazing gems in there, check The One Hundred - Kingsman for sure, and something a bit different but same mixture for me is Qemists - Run You or Jungle (ft Hacktivist)
Although I’m more of a Djent/Metalcore/Prog-metal head now, grew up listening to rap in the 90’s and picked up the guitar for the 1st time because of Korn and Limp Bizkit so this is very nostalgic to me and I liked it. Hacktivist = Limp Bizkit for Millennials.
being someone that openly worships these boys I fully approve of you featuring them. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Fair play to your thoughts on it dude. Always love the honesty and analysis in your videos
We love Hacktivist! Don't need any disclaimers :) You should react to their older stuff - "Cold Shoulders" would be perfect and from around 4:07 I always get the biggest Goosebumps, what a wonderful section...
I've loved most things Hacktivist have done but their history since their first self titled EP is very frustrating and IMO a classic metal scene tale of what could have been. That EP was imbued with so much potential on so many levels. They've had sets at some huge festivals, support slots on some huge tours for their size as a band (not least Korn and Enter Shikari) and have themselves toured internationally across Europe and Russia. Heck, I've seen them like 5 or 6 times in the UK at various festivals and their own gigs and they've always killed it. Yet, despite all of that genuine musical potential and touring pedigree, they've actually only ever put out one LP album with around 5 genuinely new tracks interspersed amongst interludes and re-recorded singles. They now seem to just put out the occasional single like this, which while I do like it is no substitute for the 'proper' album they've IMO never got it together to release. DVSR, by comparison, despite not having the amazing tour opportunities Hacktivist had (I can imagine it's a lot harder being a small band in Australia) have realised 2 full LP albums and an EP, all with some really good tracks on them. TAIM CJ even featured on their most recent album. They are by far the more solid band, and that's coming from someone who prefers Hacktivist's signature Grime/Djent sound.
The reason they haven't got around to releasing a new album was because they lost a vocalist and guitarist, so they were spending time finding the right fit for them. I believe an album is due out this year at some point
Just wanted to make a comment I'm not seeing here, I really enjoyed Hacktivists older stuff a bit better, back when they had Timfy James on guitar and Ben Marvin as the other vocalist. IF you want to try again, I'd try their older stuff from either their self titled EP or their album Outside the Box.
Love this song personally, glad to see you check it out. I can't disagree with any of your criticisms, there is definitely a difference between the first two guys and Kid Bookie. Overall I still like the song a lot, its a great workout song and I love rap music and I love metal so I love hearing stuff like this. People are saying DSVR which is cool, but i would recommend Bone Crew. Lyrics are cheesy but its fun af.
You could argue that this band is kind of a re-incarnation or upgrade of NuMetal, doing what bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit did 25 years earlier but without the tracksuit endorsements this time. I am not personally a big fan of rap metal, but have to give kudos to the band for this sound, as it works really well. Nice to also hear Numetal influence without the ban on guitar solo's or musical virtuosity this time round...
I suggest checking out an Australian Prog metal band called Ebonivory they are highly underrated I think you would like them. I suggest checking out either Hammer street, Explosions After Dark, Window Man or Tales of Termina. All great songs.
Much love as always and love the setup brother! Awesome watching your channel continue to grow! I think you'd enjoy Dementia by Erra (their most underrated song) thanks for the bangers!
I agree with a lot of the comments, DVSR should be on the list to react to, Kid Bookie is worth a look too, he's been on two tracks with Corey Taylor, done songs with Tech N9ne & has a project coming out with Billy Martin (Good Charlotte guitarist), a good crossover of the two genres 🤘
Yeah, I've always tried really hard with these guys but they can't hold a candle to DVSR. If you're looking to broaden your rap-metal horizons I'd definitely recommend their (DVSRs) 'Therapy' album (I like it more than their current release). It's definitely comes from the same angle as this band, but for whatever reason I find the Rap just sits in nicer.
Great reaction. I usually don't listen to rap but I really like Kid Bookie. Please check out Kid Bookie feat. Corey Taylor "Stuck in my ways". Greetings from Germany!
You NEED to check out UnityTX, they really do the whole rapcore thing the right way. More modern metalcore/hardcore influence, rather than jammy/djenty like Hacktivist or DVSR. Consider it!
Ooooh shit idk how I missed that. I really dig Hacktivist. I prefer the previous rapper/scream vocalist Ben Marvin, but I don't dislike Jot. I was into that song, although I think I like Reprogram more. I also didn't know how many DVSR fans there were here lol Nice to see some recognition here for 'em.
These guys are from a town 30 minutes from me and I really like them. Kid bookie was great but I agree about the other vocalists. Check out 2 rotten, great song
Funny how as I become older I have given up on rap but became more accepting of it in metal. Did anyone else get a max cavalera vibe from the vocalist?
I agree 100%, but I'd say they're still pretty different in that Hacktivist has a more aggressive vocal style, DVSR never screams except that one CJ song.
@@MoonDevoured the instrumentals are similar, but I think it's more important to be a better rapper than to have both rapping and screaming, and not excell at either
Musically Hacktivist is more technical and complex than DVSR. DVSR is more the “0010101”-djent and straight. The musicians in Hacktivist are very good, especially the drummer and their old guitarist timfy james who was part of Heart of a Coward. The new guitarist is a well know part of the progressiv/dient scene as well, as former guitarist of invocation and exist immortal. I think the big difference is the rap style, Hacktivist is more grime in many parts and DVSR is more “classic”. In comparison they are both great bands in their genre. Isn’t there is a collab with DVSR on Hacktivists 2015 album I think?👍🏼
Ive been waiting for you to do Hacktivist for a long time. This is one of their weaker singles though. Dogs of War and Reprogram are better. Also, you should check out the older stuff before Jot replaced Ben on vocals and Timfy was on guitar and doing cleans.
Why would people throw shade in here? Youre in safe hands. I mean, I hate rap and love metal but this, and DVSR even more so, are insanely good On a separate note the when he screams at his reflection in the car in the video, that is fucking hilarious to me for some reason
I wouldn't say I'm a massive fan of theirs but tracks like Reprogram or Dogs of War are a much better introduction to those coming from the metal side, felt this was a little weak from that angle particularly from the vocals.
I've tried with them but I think the problem is the Grime rap style. It just doesn't feel good with the music for me personally. DVSR is a much better sound for this style
I never understood why Metal fans often hate Rap. Can somebody explain to me why that is? I'm a Metalhead myself. I love all kinds of Core, Djent, some old classics but listen mostly to modern metal. I still like Rap and never had any problems with it.
Good One, "reprogram", "Dogs of war", this guys really dope... Music when is good dont have genre for me👌🤘 React JINJER, drop new vídeo last month "home back", keep the good work
Hacktivist have been around for quite a few years now, if people haven't heard of them and are throwing shade then id be baffled. You either like em or you don't, i dont think people would hate cause its rap Buszy is their best, but DVSR is ahead of them. Unconsious is still my fave song by them
I fucking love Rap especially the old school shit and I mostly listen to metal, grindcore and hardcore. DVSR is way better and definitely more up your alley
I'm a huge Metalhead who likes to try and be open minded, but often fails to do so. Rap in particular is a genre I generally tend to avoid. Rapping itself is fine, not my preferred vocal style, but its ok. I just hate how its all about vocals and not about instrumentals. I've heard many rap song, Kid Bookie's included which sound like they have potential but the instrumentals bore me and the song as a whole comes across as repetitive, boring and generic. That's why i've liked Hacktivist as much as I have for the past 4 or 5 years. They provide that instrumental aspect which I personally find rap lacks. Some of their earlier stuff is much better though, I think they lost something when their original guitarist (ex Heart of a Coward guitarist) left as he also brought clean vocals to the mix. So i would definitely recommend anything from the EP or first album.
I feel like grime is something you either hate or love. I think it will hit better if youre from europe and more used to it. Culture clash if you will. I dont know how I feel about the mix between grime and metal tho
Pretty much the same opinion as you dude. Surprisingly really enjoyed it when Kid Bookie came in. Not feeling the other two dudes though. Instrumentals banged.
In my opinion the idea of rap and djent is so good but I don't think it was executed as well as it could have been here, there was some very cool elements to this tune but I think rap+djent can be done way better!
Hacktivist is a great band but personally i think this is one of their weakest songs. Check out some earlier stuff. My personal favourite is 2 Rotten but there are plenty of great songs and they have a lot of videos too.
They were so good with previous guitarist, he had really his own style and groove. And also was amazing clean vocalist. Check their track 2 Rotten. It's far far better. Such a shame he left, now guitar sound just like mediocre djent compared to before. Edit : Kid Bookie verse is pure fire and wish he start his own numetal band
React to more Hacktivist and DSVR, they're both good rapcore bands and they are unique and quite djenty.
DVSR are incredible
DSVR is the shit! my boys from the south west Sydney!

What a fucking tune Kingsman is!
Hacktivist is ridiculously British
They're a band I'm still hoping gets big. Been releasing
unique stuff for a long time now. Long live Hacktivist

ooooh also this would be classed as djent/grime ...specific type of uk rap....ok i'll shutup now
good to know 👍
Well grime is pretty hard to get a hang of if you're not British (well at least I assume that) am I wrong?
Their newest album is fucking amazing.
They are from my home town! Glad you reviewed them. ❤
Dogs of War from these guys please!
I enjoyed this more than I expected
I've heard these ages ago but forgot about them til this reaction
Sick
You should check out their songs 'Elevate', 'Unlike Us' and '2 Rotten'
I love many genres pure rap not so much but this band is something else. I kove it.
DVSR I think does it a lot better. Definitely worth checking them out.
DVSR certainly seem to have improved a lot more than Hactivist
👌🏽
whole west technique album is such a banger front to back.
Idk why but this is comically British to me. Especially the second guy. The chorus goes pretty hard tho and kid bookie’s verse was good
That’s because grime is from the uk and that’s what they are mixed with metal
Kid bookie is definitely going places.
its been a while since ive listened to hacktivist, found them back in their early days
The One Houndred, DVSR, Stray from The past, fire from The gods
Oh man I miss The One Hundred...

yes check out bloodlust by dvsr!
Check out the song Hakctivist with their old lineup man, you will not be disappointed, one of the former guitarists was once in Heart of a Coward

For sure
Both are worse now than they once were imo but dvsr's first album is up there with the greats for me. Fucking love it

Yeah, DVSR with "Unconscious", my favorite Djent-Rap song.
DVSR my discovery of last year in the genre 😜
Kid Bookie's verse is definitely my favourite
Hack got the skills through and through
Dropout kings And Unity TX are both pretty solid
This is one of their weak songs. Reprogram is 100x better
I find this being one of their strongest songs, I like that two people can have such different opinions
Jajaja no
FUCKING YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
throwing hate? their album came out a few days back and it's unbelievably good!
Attila-Proving Grounds my guy. I think you'll enjoy it.
Yes bloodlust by D.V.S.R
Biohazard is the pioneers of this style of metal
My brother works with the hactivis drummer there so sick
