The theology of Ashari's pertaining to Allah's Attributes is so difficult to understand. The Athari approach makes sense with the added comfort that this was the methodology of the earliest generations.

The problem with saying that Imam Abu Haneefah or Hasan al basri or other early scholars "made mistakes" is that you ignore that they knew Sahabah and Tabeen and they weren't criticized from them like some scholars criticize them today. The books of hadith are the most authentic source after the Quran. They are not however, the only source, and they are definitely not specific sources specialized in teachings fiqh or other specific branches of islamic sciences, like Aqeedah. These Imams were specialized in teaching these things. Maturidi and Ashari Aqeedah came about as a response to the teachings of Mu'tazilah. None of these scholars was perfect, but neither are you nor any other scholar. For me personally the teachings of Imam Abu Haneefah, who saw Sahabah with his own eyes and learned from them, are an authentic source of fiqh and are not to be thrown away as bi'dah or sin. Same goes for Aqeedah and teachings of Abu Mansoor al Maturidi, or the Ashari. I also don't judge the salafis as deviant because their teachings obviously brought them closer to Allah and they pray and give Zakah, believe in the Shart-ul-Eeman and Shart-ul-Islam. Questions like "where is Allah" are not pillars of Iman/islam, and examples of people punished by Allah are mostly for denying pillars of Iman/islam, like the Oneness of God, the day of Judgement, the Prophets (pbut), or completely refusing to pray, give charity etc.
May Allah accept all our good deeds and unite us and may our differences only be the differences in rank in Jannah with which Allah will reward us.

See what leads where, History is essetial when contextualising works of the Imams of the past. Knowing what was going on in the world is essential, it explains how the Madhabs were codified for example and came about.
I doubt this speaker has a chain of transmission going back to the Beloved of Allah.
When the creed of the Asharis and Maturidis were codified, the subsequent scholars post that time usually classed themselves with either of these schools of creed..along with their school of thought (fiqh).

Why not follow the Qur'an & Sunnah and what the Salaf were upon in creed, fiqh, & manners instead of the way of ideologues like Imam Abu Hassan or Abu Mansoor as you alledge. They contradicted the understanding in important issues as revealed to the Prophet (may peace be upon him). Why not adhere to the understanding of those who preceded them who codified the Sunnah? If you are concerned with teachers who return to our Habeeb (peace be upon him) then why would you trace your understanding & approach to latter day Imams who interpreted differently than the Sahabah (may Allah be pleased with them)? That is not logical nor is it honest scholarship and it contradicts the Mathab of Ahl Sunnah. May Allah guide us all to the truth and make us firm.

Assalamu alaykum brother with all due to respect you are not qualified to say who is Ahl sunna and who isn't especially when referring to Muslim groups who follow the fundamentals and foundations of the religion whether they are Ashari or maturidi, ikhwani etc. They all agree on tawheed in it's asl. They are all ahl sunna and Allah will judge them. If they are not then that means the likes of ibn hajar, nawawi, bayhaqi, haytami, juwayni and many hundreds are also not ahl sunna you can't have it both ways. When you point the finger at others you have to look at yourself the term 'salafi' does not exist in classical texts it is a new term and according to some a new sect. Sheikh Al Uthaymeen rh warned against using this term. In classical texts when ahl sunna is mentioned it refers to the followers of the 4 schools since all the classical scholars followed 1 of the 4 madhabs unlike the modern day salafiyyah. So in summary all the group's that hold to the foundations of the religion in speech, belief and action are all ahl sunna. And Allah knows best.

I think we both can agree if we both took transport going east from our residence for 3 miles we would not arrive at the same place regardless of our intent. Similarly, groups that oppose the clear Divine texts of the Book & Sunna are not going in the same direction (salvation). There are numerous hadeeth which illustrate this such as the hadeeth of افتراق I have countless videos dealing in depth about this issue of guidance and misguidance and sectarianism. Many if not all the scholars you mentioned have written extensively about the fact we will divide and every group is not correct and only one is saved (generally) from the fire. May Allah bless you to learn your religion and leave off your opinions that have no basis in the Book, Sunnah, or understanding of the Sahabah. If you are a learned person then you should learn more. If you are not then you should keep silent and learn more. May Allah bless us all with good.

Differeces in secondary matters will always exist as one sheikh said to me the deeper you go the more ikhtilaf you will find. Sheikh ul Islam ibn taymiyyah mentioned that some who ascribe to the correct beliefs will reach jannah after those who had deficiencies in aqeedah because their amaal as salih were few and the one who had deficiencies feared Allah more and had much amaal of tahajjud , zikr, Quran recitation, nawafil, sadaqa etc etc. We must make shukr to Allah swt for guiding us and to keep us steadfast upon the haqq.
