Son of a hotelier in Rajahmundry,Sri Kamalakara Rao is known for his ‘Lalitha gambheera’ nada style of the Mridanga instrument. A highly soft looking person (like Sri Annavarapu Rama Swamy ,the famous Violin Virtuoso of Vijayawada), Sri Rao will not indulge in the various gimmicks his counterparts usually resort to so as to impress the audience,but believes in presenting the nada in its simplest,purest and mildest form which presents the Rasika the real pleasure of hearing an accompanying vayidyam .He accompanied many a great artist like MBalaMuraliKrishna,Chitti babu (who was his classmate also),MSBalaSubrahmanya Sharma ,etc. and received real and heartfelt accolades from them to the whole hearted applause of the audience.The Sabha has made its awards prestigious by presenting the title to him .
