OMG! I was so crazy about this anime (and comics) when I was in junior high. Area 88 is one of my favorite anime. I still remember of seeing the premier show at the theater in Shinjuku... almost 30 years ago!!! I still keep some records (not CD!) in my old closet.
Reminds me of my childhood years... How many times did i cried, when jin returned back to area 88 and he left his gf?? Unlimited... Perfect story/emotion plus soundtrack!
This thanklessly beautiful song speaks to my wretched soul. To anyone who struggled and bled for a goal, but kept to it til they got there, one way or another. So damn much real life application...one of the best songs made for anime ever.
-It is said the sands are gentle to those who die in the desert. It is also said the desert punishes survivers. THIS...is AREA 88....a redhot battlefield....surrounded by sand.--- The depth and poetic cynicism in those comics haunts me to this day. Those were the days ;/
In the manga, the death of Saki & Mickey took a tool on Shin, and after he killed Kanzaki in a duel (Northrop F-5E Tiger II vs McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet), he just snapped. He went back to Japan & to Ryoko but had no memories of the past few years.
@@kennyzia2795 Yeah. Unfortunately, the manga was never finished in terms of its translation, so your best bet is to either learn Japanese, or find someone that would be willing to translate it. Or, find some of the primitively translated versions that exist.
i know some people who may disagree with that... however it's certain that the old version was more mature the bad thing with both though is that they leave the ending incomplete.
man i gonna give you a tip. first, you must have mozilla firefox, then download the plug-in Download Helper(it's a plug-in for firefox to download the videos on the sites). Then, download this video with download helper and go to Media Convert. Here, ask to convert this video as a mp3 file, i tried and it works !! i've this song now. But if it too tough for you, just gimme your address mail and i'll give you this song. If other people wants this song, just gimme your address mail.
I feel so representes with shin we both share fucking unfair lifes but here we are still fighting looking for what to fight too i love planes and shoot em ups lonely fighter forever. Area 88 and Raiden forever
1980's as fuck. I want to see a modern take on Area 88, with real actors and real planes. If you can do the new Top Gun you can def do this? Gimme like a quick 10 ep netflix banger, pure B list action with real planes plz.
Couldn't do it with real planes for a number of reasons 1. It's an anti-war story about mercenaries, so no government funding whatsoever 2. Majority of the planes featured in Area 88 are gonna be impossible to get ahold of, due to none being flyable 3. The ones are still flyable are usually in private or contractor ownership, and you'll have to pay an absolute PREMIUM to rent just the aircraft, not even counting the pilot, maintenance crew, etc.
One way or another.
I'll get myself together.
I'll get my body moving
I'll get my head to clear
One way or another
Gonna cross the desert
I'm going far away from here
One way or another
Sheer determination
Moves one foot, then the other
Lord, it's a heavy load
One way or another
I'll reach my destination
Lord, it's a long and lonely road
* How far to paradise?
How far to paradise?
How long the journey
To deliver my soul?
How far to paradise?
How far to paradise?
How far back to my home?
Trials and tribulations
Heartache and frustration
Somehow I go on living
Sometimes I wonder why
Far too many questions
Never any answer
Only my faith keeps me alive
Repeats *
Will she still be there for me
I need the tender love she gave me
Still be there to care for me
Only her precious love can save me

All these years and this theme still bangs. Timeless
I agree. It's awesome, epic, and emotional. Area 88 has some of the best music in the history of anime.
Agree
Still love this one. Probably one of my favorite songs from an anime
I remember hearing this song the first time I heard it in the first OAV. It was love at first note. I still have the VHS tapes I bought of it in 1999.
This thanklessly beautiful song speaks to my wretched soul. To anyone who struggled and bled for a goal, but kept to it til they got there, one way or another. So damn much real life application...one of the best songs made for anime ever.
I remember watching this when I was a real young kid. I loved this song but had no way of finding it. Game Grumps reminded me this still existed.
how popular was it back then
Me to buddy!!

This song fits amazingly well with the theme of the ova.
I may be late to this anime... 13 years late, but I'm here for this absolutely amazing song and intro! Thank you for posting!
You should watch the 80's version as well! I had stumbled on that just recently and it hits different like someone else is telling a famous story.
I collected the comic back in the day as well as having act one on VHS. Brings back some good memories. Thanks for this great song.
Sentry331 I have the manga too, but it is in Japanese xD

Gran tema, para y una gran serie.
Sin duda una de las mejores canciones para un animé, aparte de su animé claro .

literally the best opening song ive heard in an anime
this actually captures shins pain
One of the saddest animes around. This song was cool. sounds like a black man singing in an anime.

@@fenrislegacy do you know where I can read the whole series, because every time I find the manga series it only goes up to chapter 59?
