I'm from Bulgaria and he reminds me of a slimy undercover Stasi officer from the once-young GDR Nomenklatura. He looks as one and he acts as one, I know their style pretty good from here. Even though he was once just a left-wing student from Hamburg and been an SPD party Funktioner all his life, he learned the commie ways of "doing politics" pretty well. A rat and a snake in one creature.
This is a real story. In Kursk there is a big banner with a soldier carrying a child which is a recruitment into russian army saying this is s choice of a true patriot. The problem is they used a picture of Ukrainian soldier carrying a child in Bucha in 2022. The comment section of Ukrainians is priceless: they chose our soldier because their soldiers carry toilets.

To be fair, he is many times better on russia than Merkel or Schröder. Probably better than a CDU-CSU PM, who face huge pressure from parts of the right against Ukraine. Which is less on left. talking about other European countries - it is in their best interest to support Ukraine in refusing to give up any territory. I think it goes beyond letting Ukraine make that decision for itself but also to ensure that Ukraine is not being coerced and to militarily support Ukraine as much as it needs to defend it's borders.

you are absolutely right about scholz. i said that at the day he got elected. he was not the worst choice, but he was one of the really bad choices. this man has no morale and no guts and im quite sure, he either doesnt understand how dangerous putin is or just doesnt care what happens to the world and ukraine after he is no longer in his job.

Ukraine must join NATO. What will Putin do then? Of course, that depends on whether NATO will actually do anything if Russia attacks.
For Russia to agree top anything, Putin needs an out (or he needs to go out a window). Amnesty for war crimes, limited claims for reparations, a total POW and civilian prisoner exchange, and a gradual lifting of sanctions are a few things we can (and should) offer for a total withdrawal. We can also offer a small win, and pledge "no NATO troops in Ukraine". Ukraine will want NATO Article 5 protection in case Russia tries something stupid again, and they could be join as an ancillary member, protected against invasion, but not taking part in joint NATO exercises, nor allowing NATO troops exercising or be stationed on its soil.
That's giving a lot to Russia... but Russia is giving up plenty as well. I think this would be preferable to a drawn out war. But ultimately it is up to Ukraine (and not to you, mr. Schulz!)

ugh... my government is so huge and wastes so many resources! I wish I had some way to streamline it or make it better, but it seems like this is the best we can do. The UN is obsolete. It has proven itself to be useless time after time ever since its creation.
As a French, it kind of hurts to hear Scholz forcing Ukraine to surrender territory in the name of "peace". We all know how that went for France in WW2, it's still a meme to this day (80 years later) because we chose surrendering territories over a bloodbath. Ironically though, in the end all territories lost were given back to France, and I believe it will also be the case should Ukraine be forced to do the same. They're still far from giving up though, and have proven many times no one is invincible. But seeing Scholz shaking in his boots and considering that losing territory could mean durable peace for Ukraine makes me uneasy! He should know by now that imperialism is never satisfied, and eventually collapses for being too greedy!

WESTERN technologies have proved to be wanting before Russian jammers. Western training and combined war fare have been in effective before the Russian bear. From Germany, you're absolutely right, German help is rather despite of, not because of Scholz. I am a supporter of the coalition, despite its current low popularity and their mistake to always quarrel in public, they have done a lot in the background. They had taken over after 16 years of Merkel just administrating the status quo, making deals with Putin, not pushing the country forward, in the midst of a global pandemic and shortly before Putins full-scale war. Given the bloody hard job and challenges they have before them, the have done a pretty good job (like getting us away from ruzzian fossiles) and a lot of right decisions for Germany. However, I totally dislike Scholz, he is totally indecisive, hesitant, boneless, you seldom get a straightforward answer from him, always beating around the bush. If it was not for the pressure from the Liberals and Greens (and some parts of the SPD), I'm fairly sure help for Ukraine would be much less.

Ahh, That is the so called White Tail Gripens. Planes built for training of its employees when there were holes in the production. They were almost finished, but as far as I heard, without computers. And less paint. As I believe, they were all tested with computers borrowed from series planes. I would say, they are quite quick to finish to the air. ❤

Schultz is the modern Chamberlain.
In the U.S. once congress has approved an spending package, they no longer have any input on the process of spending the money, So there are no negotiations with Congress on getting the rest of the money spent by the end of September. Any decision on spending is fully with Biden and the executive branch. I assume there are simply logistics challenges, perhaps the military is concerned since most U.S. aid to Ukraine is the donation of older U.S. equipment (that is currently in our stockpiles) that then has to be replaced by purchases of new equipment to be used by the U.S. So perhaps the contracts with the arms manufacturers (who are building the new equipment that will replace what is taken out and given to Ukraine) is running behind schedule.

About the extra money for JAS Gripen: The money will buy new parts for the brand new Gripen E:s that right now is brought into the Swedish Air Force from the production line. The plan from the beginning was that fully functional Gripen C/D:s would be cannibalised and provide with many parts to keep the costs down. Now many more, if not all existing C/D:s will be saved to keep the option of donations open. Three divisions of a total of 45 of the older C/D-version are to co-exist with 60 new Gripen E:s in the future SwAF. That means that potentially up to 51 C/D-planes could be sent to Ukraine, little by little as the new E:s are commissioned into service in the years to come - if the Swedish Government decides to do so.

I suspect a lot of people do not understand that when say $6B is allocated, this means it is available to place orders for arms etc. Then the process begins with finding the best provider and then agreeing a contract to supply. The term of the contract can be months or maybe years for some items.
Yes and many don't understand that the money is not given as a lump sum to Ukraine. That is an assertion that MAGA still doesn't always acknowledge.

Shameful that the money hasn't already been spent. Part of the problem is that in general, gov't money can't be "prepaid" for future deliveries; only payment in full for products delivered. So if orders were placed, but the items have not been manufactured or delivered, the government can't pay.... therefore the dollars "weren't spent".
There may be workarounds, but the whole idea is to make sure that public funds don't sit in somebody else's hands when no product or service has yet to be delivered. Progression billing and payments can be done if the contract is written that way, but there, too, it's only for what's already been delivered.
So how/where do they come up with "off the shelf" military goods worth $6 Billion in 3 weeks? We can pretty much assume that the Republicans would obstruct any efforts to modify the contracts or give an extension so that they can then blame Biden/Harris for the manufacturers of those goods having long production and delivery times.

About the Gripen planes and the parts that Sweden will order is NOT to restore older Gripen planes. The plan was to scrap a bunch of Gripen C/D and take some parts for the new E/F versions. But now new parts will be ordered so those C/D versions don't have to be scrapped and instead can be sent to Ukraine. So the planes already excists and are operational and nothing need to be restored. The question are just when Sweden can start training and transfer of Gripen planes for Ukraine, hopefully soon.
Since Sweden operates today about 96 Gripen C/D and expects to keep 60 I would think there would be about a potential of 36 Gripen that could potentially be transferred to Ukraine eventually.

My comment is the following:
Since 2022, the West has been asking the AFU to use Western-based tactics such as the "Boyd Loop", "Exploiting the Seams", and more commonly known concepts such as "Combined Arms Warfare".
So far, the AFU has done pretty darn good. How? Let's look at 2024:
- In '24, ru took a Grand Total total of +/-920 km2 in the Donetsk region. Snail pace? You can say that!
- During the same period, the AFU 1) has taken 1,100 km2 in the Kursk region in less than 20 days, 2) essentially stopped the advance towards Pokrovsk (Da trolls will soon have to review their script), and 3) retaken part of Niu York (tks to the ru boogey man (azov)!
Now if the AFU can achieve this (and k ratios above 1:5), imagine if we provide them with what they NEED?

As far as the Boyd loop, that OODA loop is such a joke. Observe, orient, detect, act... everyone with situational awareness does this. It's just a thing that someone who doesn't want to help can accuse someone of not demonstrating enough. They observed the buildup in kursk, they put forces there, they detected that the Russians didn't expect anything, and they acted. American politicians are just mad that they didn't have the idea themselves

A bit of a clarification. The telegram post about the Gripen C/D spare parts is actually not entirely right. The plan seems to be to procure C/D equipment kits for when the E/F variants are being introduced in Sweden and use them (I assume the kits are C-D-E-F-compatible) instead of cannibalizing existing C/D planes for spare parts. So worst case scenario might be; no Gripen for Ukraine before there's Gripen E/F delivered to Sweden (should be happening in 2025). And then there's the pilot (and other personnel) training and the F16 introduction that takes priority to the Gripen introduction. So, it'll unfortunately take a bit more time...
Scholz cowardice weakens the EU and Ukraine's ability to defend itself and win. Thanks for update. Build isn't always a reliable source so I prefer to wait before believing the story regarding the UN and Swift.💙💛

As a child, I wanted to be a UN peacekeeper. I am no longer a child. I have no illusions about the UN. However, regarding diplomacy, one can quickly reach a hastened conclusion from only one piece of information. If one does diplomacy, one tends to discover the maximum available possibilities for compromise, which involves many versions that certain groups of people do not like. In most of these cases, a major part of these proposals do not come to fruition, they only stay up as hot air balloons, which were too uninteresting to be picked up. In conclusion, if there is one email about one version of possible events, that proves nothing besides diplomats doing diplomacy.
