In this nanDECK tutorial, I explain how to sync your nanDECK file directly to Google Sheets, without having to download the .csv file. I also discuss some of the tradeoffs and when you might want to link directly to Google Sheets, and when you might want to use a local file.
i started a project a few month ago and made huge spreadsheet of cards and mechanics. I got stuck finding a software and making it work. Your videos made this possible for me today. I cant thank you enough for these tutorials. You rule
This video just changed my entire project's workflow. THANK YOU!
Great vid! This is exactly the workflow I was hoping to have!
Another great video tutorial. Thanks.
Thanks for another great video! I'm getting better at this😁
Extremely helpful, thanks
This tip is great to know! Do you know if it's possible to link a specific sheet, if your Google Sheets doc has more than one? It seems to default to the first tabbed sheet.
It would be nice to be able to indicate which sheet to use in the LINK parameter, but I suppose I could just use separate Sheets documents instead of tabbed sheets within the same document if that's not an option.
I haven't tried it, but maybe what this article describes would work? gsuitetips.com/tips/sheets/open-a-sheet-on-a-specific-tab/
@@LudoLodge Aha! I've got it working. I had to play around with it a bit, but if you take the original doc's link and add "&gid=" with the sheet's gid on the end, it works!
@@TymonScott You literally helped me out so much. All of my old links weren't working with the old "!SHEET_NAME" method. This fixed it.
EDIT:
Updating my version to the lastest version solved all errors and allowed me to use "!SHEET_NAME" again
Update: I'm tending to favor using the Google ID now because I often forget to click Validate, Build when making a minor tweak.
This was fantastic. For some reason, my link to the local file wasn't synching up. Linking straight to Google sheets solved that issue.
Is it possible to have the image file link in the spreadsheet also link to an image file in your drive too? Could be useful if you are working on the templates away from home and want to have it all sync when you load up nandeck again.
Thanks for these tutorials, I am new to both game design and nanDeck so i am very much looking forward to future videos. The thing I am struggling with right now is one of my games has the art have some icons over it in the corner (one of the game stat boxes overlaps the card art a little) and I don't know how to make sure the card art doesnt cover up the game stat box. I'm not sure if you have encountered this in nandeck
Hi Jake, glad you've found the tutorials helpful.
I'm not aware of a way to directly link to images in drive... I found this thread which seems to confirm: boardgamegeek.com/thread/1839354/can-we-use-image-and-other-files-g-drive
I'm not sure I understand your second question; it sounds like maybe an issue of which element is drawn on top? I believe nanDECK applies everything from top to bottom, so you would want your top-most images to be later in the script. Let me know if I am not following what you were trying to describe.
I realized how to accomplish what I was going for. Thank you for the reply I am finding your content really helpful in my design research. Especially the Mechanic highlights
Hi! Thanks for the content, man. Very helpful!
Do you know if I can do the same thing with an excel online spreadsheet?
Thanks again!
