That has got to e one of the most beautiful railway lines in the world, something that Japan can be really proud of. Imagine this is your daily train to work :) But I am surprised that this train is so slow. I always thought that trains in Japan were fast. I know that is a suburban train, but in my country, Poland (which is much poorer and less developed than Japan), suburban trains are about twice as much faster. How is that possible? 🤔

This video was shot with a telephoto lens, so it looks slow.
The two videos below are rapid trains on the same route, but the sense of speeds are completely different, but the time required is almost the same.

I think the zoom makes the curves look sharper than they are. It looks a bit like a model railway built on real scale from a small original 😉
Beautiful landscape, nice views nevertheless. Wish I could make that trip one day.

There are 2 things that I find odd about that line. One is the stub tracks that aren't long enough to even store a single car. The other is the position light signals like the Pennsylvania Railroad, especially since they have color light signals too.

    • @cthitorikamonen2874
      @cthitorikamonen2874  8 месяцев назад

      1. The stub track is built with the idea that if a train runs out of control, it is better to hit a buffer stop than to be hit by another train.
      2. Seibu Railway uses 5-light signals because there are lines that are crowded with many trains. Although it may not be necessary for the Seibu Chichibu Line, the signal system has been unified.

...it's better then rollercast, fantastic scenery. Whats wondering me, the huge amount of poles and cabling for the contact lines, I guess it has been a " salty" investment to build those line..

Must have been a truly incredibly route when it was steam powered.

The Seibu Chichibu Line opened in 1969 and has been electrified since its opening, but unfortunately, steam locomotives have never run on it.

The clickety-clack almost sounds like a square wheel on one of the trucks. Or maybe it just reminds me of the same sounds that a train made in the 1950's in East Germany. Interesting that the station announcement is also in English. This doesn't seem like a touristy area. Though it is very picturesque and worthwhile seeing.

This is not touristy area. It's one of their commuter light rail systems, paid by fare only..
