      I spent a lot of time in SB growing up because my 2 grandmothers lived there. The Santa Fe railroad was a big employer in the area - my 2 grandfathers and one of my grandmothers worked there back in the 1920’s thru the 1950’s.
      The SB I knew in the 1960’s stands in stark contrast to the SB in this video. It is depressing to see how bad things have become there. I always enjoyed visiting my grandmothers in SB when I was growing up but I would be very uncomfortable walking around there today.

      @T M Agreed. But, the systemic, VERY myopic policies that are especially prevalent in California (especially places like Greater Los Angeles and the Bay Area) and are TOTALLY regressive, ironically headed up by politicians who call themselves "progressive" (lol yeah right).
      I get having a basic safety net, but that safety net is dependent on the private sector, and when California has some of THE highest taxes on businesses and wealthy individuals (not to mention VERY heavy amounts of regulations), then it's not coincidental at all that places like San Bernardino see SO many vacant storefronts and "For Sale/For Lease" signs everywhere.
      In other words, until California pols get their heads out of their collective asses and starts creative a business-FRIENDLY environment, then there will be more poor, more welfare, because there will be fewer and fewer stable businesses from which to get taxes. Basically a vicious snowball effect.

      Caroline Chase: Its sad when people don't actually know definitions of words. Socialism and communism are diametrically opposed, yet you use them in the same sentence. If California was, as you say, socialist and communist, then it wouldn't have the 5th largest GDP in the world. Not the nation, the entire world. The republican strong hold of Kentucky has the 48th highest GDP in the nation.
      So no, your problem isn't socialism or communism, your problem is corporatism. Also know as neoliberalism and neoconservativism.
      Look around. San Bernardino isn't unique to America. There are San Bernardino's all over the world right now. And not just in 3rd world countries, but in England, Spain, Italy, Japan, etc.. Republicans and democrats didn't do that. Just as Russians didn't throw 30 million Americans off healthcare.
      There is only one political party in America, the Corporatist Party. And the mechanism they use is neoliberalism and neoconservativism and since 1980, with the election of Ronnie and used by all proceeding president to current day, it's been spreading around the globe.
      But with a statement like yours, the establishment has indoctrinated you well, and they thank you for your blind allegiance so they can continue to rob you blind.

    There is way, way, way more to the story. This production was so one sided. By the way, Charles McNeely had a plan to fix the city. They wouldn't listen to him. They would rather be arguing like WWE in council meetings over ridiculousness.
    Also, Fire employees sucked the city dry like a vampire to an open vein. Go back and see where the budget went.
    Plan and simple, this city has been corrupt for a long time. All of this was not an accident. And, it wasn't just the 2008 crisis. It was bad stewardship. It was greed. It was stupidity. And, it was Fire and their union of greed, that didn't want to work out a contract that would work for everyone. And before anyone says they put their lives on the line, not as much as refuse did. They may go to a call. We work with hazardous Solid Waste, all day long. We didn't just sit around waiting for a call, or shopping at Staters, all while making a hundred gs on a low ball.
    Don't get me wrong. I respect the guys. Some are my friends. But, as they know, I tell the truth. Don't believe me? Go back and take a look at the budget from 2 years ago, back 20 years and you will see, there goes the money that could have made a difference. But, can't blame them. Don't hate the pimp, right? Hate the game.
    As far as the production, it "looked" great and was cut well. As far as the content, there's way, way, way more to the story. WAY MORE!!!

Don't forget those public pensions that costs 100k for life. As far as putting your life on the line that job is a choice not a mandate, and how many fires were they fighting. They could easily been accountants. No person goes on debt in one day usually over a long period, just like cities. Thanks for the insight

      San Bernardino issued a moratorium on all cannabis business. Police ran wild, telling everyone, "Weed is still illegal in this county." Even after three bills had passed. The city of Desert Hot Springs was in the same m situation, but pulled themselves out of insolvency, lowered their crime rate and are now enjoying a break from much of the economic stress of city bankruptcy because they addressed Cannabis in a sensible, community-involved fashion that allowed them to survive. San Bernardino could do the same but nobody in power cares. I actually met the mayor of DHS in one of the dispensaries called Sungrow!!

    Witness Pat Morris clucking his tongue and wagging his finger at people for leaving San Bernardino. I left San Bernardino in 92 because as a high school graduate who wasn't going to college there wasn't anything in San Bernardino for me except minimum wage and a high cost of living. I went to the Army for 6 years and then came back to the San Bernardino area looking to put all that great training and life experience to work, and I was able to get work making a little over minimum wage in a factory in Colton which later closed and moved to Mexico. I wound up (as so many of us do) in Arizona where I've been able to find and keep a decent job for almost 15 years now, and I've even been able to buy a house for a reasonable price.
    Hats off to you, Pat, for making your way through college and law school, but not everyone can do that and then go on to make a living bouncing between highly compensated government work and even higher paying private sector jobs. People in my social strata have to go out and produce something and earn a profit so that people in your social strata have someone to tax to pay for your six figure salaries and your great ideas like the ever so successful drug courts (hey, where'd all the meth addicts go?) as well as that real winner of an idea to convert the Central City mall into an urbane metrocenter.
    I realize that Pat Morris isn't responsible for California's entire economic crisis, but he presided over a particularly hideous part of the problem and now acts surprised and hurt that people aren't willing to hang in there with him and the mess he helped create. In all actuality, he's probably just concerned that the people he was counting on to pay taxes are now leaving and being replaced by people who don't pay taxes. We can't all make our living sucking the taxpayer tit. Fuck you, Pat.

    My dad likes to buy properties in Riverside and San Bernardino because you can get them for so cheap and fix them up, start having them bring you in a steady income each month.
    San Bernardino is going to continue having problems if they keep going blue. You can't drive business away and then complain that there are no jobs. You have to make your city appealing to businesses. The majority of businesses are not Walmart or Amazon - they're YOUR people. If you make it impossible to run a business, Walmarts and Amazons have the ability to deal with it. The mom and pop shops don't.
    It also doesn't help when they continuously make more policies that are enabling.
    "We have homeless people."
    "Well, let's provide them with EVERYTHING, free of charge."
    "We now have more homeless people for some reason. Can't figure out why."
    Bleeding heart policies based on emotions just tend to worsen the problem, and the only reason for them is so that the people who support them can feel better about themselves. People need to start learning that if you see a drug addict on the street and give them $10, what you just did was buy them more drugs to hurt themselves. You didn't help. You just did something so you could make yourself feel good, but you didn't do something to help them.
    What should we do? Provide a way for people to get job training and become productive. Would everyone take it? Of course not. We've known plenty of people who CHOOSE to be homeless because they don't want to follow the rules of society. You're not going to be able to force them to live like everyone else. You also can't help everyone. If someone is an addict and isn't ready to quit, you can't do anything about it. Provide a path for people to build up their lives through their own efforts. That's what we need here, but they won't do it because it doesn't give them the instant gratification of being able to feel like they did something.

    • @Vanderearden
      @Vanderearden 5 лет назад

      Eisah Vakohler: How do explain away the republican stronghold state of Kentucky? They make San Bernardino look like Beverly Hills.
      At least California can boast that they have the 5 largest GDP in the world. California has more wealth than Russia who clocks in at #6 in global GDP. Kentucky? Ranks 48th in the nation. Doesn't even register on the global statistics.
      But this metric helps prove the point. This isn't a red/blue paradigm. This is about corporatism and it's been spreading around the globe since it was kicked into gear in 1980, by none other than Ronald Reagan. And every proceeding president has not only continued the policy, but accelerated it.
      The global economy is about to tank. Are you going to plan the democrats for that? You'd be partially correct. There's only one political party in America. The Corporatist Party and both red and blue pander to it. There is no liberal or conservative or moderate or centrist policies. That's all an illusion to make you think there's a difference.
      But as long as you and people like you continue to believe in the establishment, then the establishment will continue to rob you blind and sooner than later, you'll find yourself in a city like San Bernardino.

      @@Vanderearden I have no idea what made you think I believe in establishment or have great trust in Republicans. The policies people like Obama put in were often "tyranny of the majority" policies, catering to big cities with a lot of people and overlooking places like Kentucky. For example, being in CA (and knowing people who have moved out to Texas because it's stupidly expensive to live here), we had a vote about water during the drought. What should happen with the water that falls on farmlands and such?
      Well, while normally you would say the farmers can use it to water their crops, there's more people living in the city, so they voted the water should go to them. So we have an insane law that prevents farmers from using water on their own property the same way anyone else would, even though a huge part of CA's economy is agriculture. This has caused farmers to drill deep into the land to get water in response, which I'm sure will have some sort of consequences in the future.
      Which is the reason why we have things like the electoral college. Pandering to places like large cities ends up trampling over the rights and needs of the people who grow our food.
      I like Trump because he's actually destroyed a lot of regulations that were strangling businesses and such. It doesn't mean I agree with 100% of what he does. And, of the two options we're generally being presented with right now, if I have to choose one, I have to go with the ones who are currently on the side of free speech and such. Right now that's the Republicans, whereas it used to be the Democrats. I don't like either party, though, and would prefer to get more outsiders into office who actually care about what they're doing.
      CA has so many things like naturally good weather that SHOULD make it an amazing place. For example, with the drought: we did not solve that problem. We lucked out because we suddenly got a lot of rain that took care of a lot of it. The path we were taking would have probably had lasting consequences to our land.
      We generally hang in there despite the politicians here, not because of them. I also acknowledge that without being propped up by other states, CA would probably collapse on itself. We have $1.3 TRILLION in debt as a state. Don't follow us for sure.

    • @Vanderearden
      @Vanderearden 5 лет назад

      Eisah Vakohler: I honestly wonder how someone can be so wrong. It's beyond frustrating. It must be Fox News.
      First off, California is not in debt, it actually has a surplus. Again, 5th largest GDP in the world. You might want to look up what GDP is. California receives the least amount of federal assistance. The fact is, California, because of it's immense GDP, supports states like Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, West Virginia, etc. Just a quick search of Federal funding bares this out.
      The water bill your talking about is far more complex than the over simplification you've given, but then again, you seem to think republicans are the advocates for free speech. They clearly say they are, but their actions say otherwise. That's the entire GOP shtick. Say one thing, do the opposite. Trump and the GOP say, "We love free markets", but telling a private business what they can or can't do is not democracy, it's a dictatorship. And the vast majority of those regulations that Trump rolled back are going to end up killing people. Think of regulations as safety features, except the republicans have convinced ignorant people that they are strangling freedoms. Here's a regulation, speed limits, should we get rid of those? But now Trump has told corporations that it's just fine to dump coal ash in water ways. It's ok to use fracking water to irrigate crops. It's ok to use public lands for corporate interests. I suppose you want to get rid of "entitlements"' to. One problem, if you've worked anywhere in the nation, you've earned those "entitlements". Would you consider your checking account or savings account an "entitlement"?
      Seriously, how do you go through life with so little understanding of what the truth is? It truly boggles the rational mind.

      @@Vanderearden No, most of those regulations are idiotic legislation that sounded good to people who don't work in the fields they're legislating on. They tend to strangle mom and pop businesses.
      When the government is using a platform and treats sites as a platform, they should only be treated as a platform and not a publisher if they meet certain standards. • @Vanderearden
      @Vanderearden 5 лет назад

      Eisah Vakohler: OMG. This is why America is in dire straits, because of the idiotic rational of people like you. The main reason for California's economics is because of Trump's trade war with China. What is the busiest and most profitable sea port in the U.S.? Long Beach, which has been put under strain because of import trade. What is the largest sector of GDP in California? Agriculture, which is now under strain due to the trade war. What is the second largest source of revenue in California? Logging, which again, is under pressure due to the trade war. California's economics, as well as most states that produce goods, like coal in Virginia are troubled because of this trade war. It doesn't take a genius to see how in 3 short years, Trumps economic policies have plunged America deeper into debt by over 3 trillion dollars and the states with the highest GDP are going to be hit the hardest. Mainly, California.
      Again, it's the same old republican talking point. Fiscal responsibility. The 1987 recession came 7 years after Reagan was elected, but still in office. The 2008 economic crash came 7 years after Bush was elected, but still in office. Now Trump has accelerated policies that were never fixed, but rather only corrected with nonbinding fiscal policy.
      The reality is, and any nonpartisan economist will tell you, if California seceded from the Union, the nation would collapse because there is no other state with even close to the GDP potential that California currently has. The rest of the nation sucks off the tet of California, whether you agree or not. Facts are facts. Notice how California leads the nation in reform. When California decides to make change, D.C. has very little choice but to let it happen because they can't afford to lose the revenue that California provides to the federal coffers.
      The red/blue paradigm is a shame. There is no red or blue party. There is only one party in America. The corporatist party and both republicans and democrats pander to it. When Kamala Harris(democrat) works hand in hand with Steve Mnuchin(republican) to illegally forclose on millions of homeowners, the writing is on the wall, unless you're completely blind.
      Lastly, debt doesn't mean what you think it does. A nations or state debt is the electorates asset. This might be over your pay scale, but ask this on simple question. How does any U.S. currency come into existence. How is it created? There is a mechanism and once you understand that mechanism instead of thinking you know, then it'll become easier to see the game that being played and how all average Americans are being robbed blind. It makes no difference what state you live in or what party you align with. It's all theater to keep the masses infighting. To keep them fearful and ignorant.
      But in all seriousness, tell me how you think a single U.S. dollar is created. This should be fun. I truly look forward to your response. Your answer will reveal who you are.

    I was born at St Bernardine's Hospital in San Bernardino in 1958, and left for good in 1989 because of the gang activity that was becoming prevalent in the NICEST areas of the city.
    The decline of SB began in the mid-eighties when L.A. was chasing out all of the black street gangs (crips/bloods) and they were moving to the Inland Empire (SB and Riverside). Riverside did a great job of navigating them, but unfortunately SB city management didn't, and that is why the city is in the condition it is in today.
    Norton AFB closed years after I left (4/94) and may have contributed to an economical decline in the city, but it didn't cause the initial decay. That was the infilteration of the crips and bloods and the poor city management who let them take over.
    I moved to the Seattle area in 1989 and when I came back to the Inland Empire (6/94) for my father's funeral, SB was already DEEP into the sewer. NAFB closed 4/94.
    When I moved back to CA in 1999 and was driving through San Bernardino to Palm Desert, I couldn't believe the condition of my hometown. The nicest areas of town were decayed and all black. It was truly unbelievable.
    It makes me sick to see the present condition of SB, and anybody who knows the city history knows the city starting plummeting long before NAFB closed.

    Eight year old video and San Bernardino is worse. Driving the streets you hardly see other cars in the city. I remember driving to E St. on friday nights for cruise nights in 1972. It was packed, all parking lots full of hot rods and laughing people. Then Kaiser Steel sold the plant to China putting thousands out of good paying jobs. Illegals robbing homes and businesses, shootings, store closings, no new development. Became an urban slum overnight. Homeless with shopping carts on the freeway, a real tragedy. Now the ballpark built by the casino indians have raves that blast the whole valley with horrid vibrating sound way after dark. Must be the only way money is made

      bigblocklawyer: The very same could be said about Kentucky. A republican run state. Until ignorant, tribal people wake up and realize what the real problem is and who should be held to account, then this will continue to happen all across the nation.
      This isn't a red/blue paradigm, no matter how insistent the establishment talking heads tell you it is. There is only one political party in America, the Corporatist Party. Red/Blue is an illusion.
      America isn't a free market, capitalist democracy. It's a fascist, oligarchy police state. If it was a free market, then why the need for trade deals? Why use tariffs? Why does a leader of a free market make demands on a private business where they can do business. A dictator does that.
      But by all means, keep punching down. This allows the establishment to continue to rob you blind and never be held to account.

    • @bigblocklawyer
      @bigblocklawyer 5 лет назад

      @@Vanderearden Yep. You're right. The left right paradigm is a myth. San Francisco, St. Louis, Miami, Baltimore, Chicago, DC, Portland, Flint, Detroit. All just coincidentally run by the myth of liberalism. If these cities were run by the equally mythical right, we wouldn't hear about the right left paradigm bullshit but how the racist white supremacists were screaming up the hood. One of the trillions of excuses we hear about the paradigm. Dickhead California *elected* assholes who warn criminals about ICE raids and go uncharged. They do this so illegal aliens feel compelled to vote for the democrat illusion in exchange for food, shelter and a "better life"( that we pay for). This is the only way democrats get elected. Keep drinking the kool aid believing this is all a scam to keep the 2 sides at war. Ask Kate Steinle's parents how a democrat run, sanctuary shithole has been to them. The flint city officials recinded a legal, closed bid, won by a company to repair water pipe in the shithole and said a minority owned company (who were shown not to be able to complete the project) would get the job. Just a left vs. right setup, right? Wake up. Liberalism, help find a cure.

    • @Vanderearden
      @Vanderearden 5 лет назад

      bigblocklawyer: Was Dylan Roof a liberal? But since you killed nonwhites, that's different, right?
      You still didn't answer for Kentucky. Or Virginia. How about Mississippi or Tennessee? All republican strongholds. All the biggest recipients of federal aid. Aid that is overwhelmingly provided by those terrible liberal states.
      A person can't have fear or tribalism without ignorance. Your definitely there. Still beholden to the theatre that is the red/blue paradigm despite all evidence to the contrary. But then again, Fox News doesn't represent the truth, just opinion.

    i lived in San Bernardino for approximately a year , 30 years ago. I grew up in Los Angeles and Orange counties before that and San Bernardino was my first space in the Inland empire. Truly, compared to where I lived in LA and Orange counties, San Bernardino was a hole even then. This video was published back in 2015, and San Bernardino likely continued momentum into the dark abyss since then. But most of it is due to the collusion of residents living there and politicians they elect to run the city into the ground. Do, they think that's their goal? No, of course not. They think San Bernardino can be built into the socialist haven Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gilibrand, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris are trying to sell people going into the 2020 elections. The DNC has given up all hope and sought to buy votes with other peoples' money. No way to know how stupid people truly are. It just may work this time around for the election, but San Bernardino, just like Havana and Caracas will prove this strategy as stupid beyond all doubt.

    Most Californians are barely waking up to the fact that State is in ruins because of systematic, political and bureaucratic failures . Career Politicians adhere and loyal only to themselves and not to their constituents. Sadly, as long as constituents are thrown a bone or two i.e. welfare and any state sponsored stipend, they will be satisfied and no motivation to question career politicians' motives and goals within their cities and/counties.
